When it comes to veterinary care, a specialized approach is often the most effective. Spinnaker Farm Equine Veterinary, led by Dr. Heather J. Wenzell, provides just that: a dedicated focus on the unique needs of horses. This practice stands out for its ambulatory services, bringing a high level of expertise and medical care directly to your farm. This mobile model ensures that your horse can be treated in its familiar and comfortable environment, reducing the stress and logistical challenges of transport. From routine check-ups to urgent medical situations, Spinnaker Farm is committed to providing comprehensive and professional care. This overview will explore the key services, features, and philosophy that make this a valuable resource for the equestrian community in the Washington region.
The practice's approach is centered on a strong personal commitment to each horse and its owner. Dr. Wenzell, with her background as an A-Circuit Grand Prix rider and a passion for show-jumping and breeding, brings a unique blend of practical experience and veterinary knowledge. This perspective allows her to understand the specific needs of performance horses, pleasure horses, and breeding stock alike. Her commitment to staying within her area of expertise and readily referring clients to specialists when needed demonstrates a high level of professional integrity. This collaborative approach ensures that every horse receives the best possible care, even for complex issues. Spinnaker Farm Equine Veterinary is built on the convenience and effectiveness of ambulatory services, which are fundamental to their service model. By coming to the client, they can provide a personalized and efficient service that fits into the busy lives of horse owners and trainers. The clinic's focus on a personal connection and tailored care is a core part of its identity, aiming to maximize each horse's potential from top athletes to backyard companions.
Spinnaker Farm Equine Veterinary is a mobile practice, with its central location identified as a P.O. Box in Lacey, Washington. The mailing address is PO Box 3384, Lacey, WA 98509, USA. This indicates that their primary mode of operation is providing ambulatory services, or "farm calls," directly to clients' locations throughout Western Washington and Oregon. This model of care is a key feature, as it eliminates the need for horse owners to transport their animals for most veterinary needs. While the business operates out of a P.O. Box for administrative purposes, their service area is extensive, bringing expert care right to the barn. For any rare instances where a client might visit a facility, the business does note some accessibility features, including a wheelchair-accessible car park, a wheelchair-accessible entrance, and a wheelchair-accessible toilet. These features are likely associated with a physical location they may use for certain procedures, or are listed as a general amenity for clients. Appointments are recommended for all services, ensuring that the mobile vet can efficiently plan their route and dedicate sufficient time to each appointment.
This ambulatory business model is a major advantage for horse owners. The convenience of having the vet come to the farm is unparalleled, especially in emergencies or for horses that are difficult to transport. It also allows the veterinarian to evaluate the horse in its home environment, which can be crucial for diagnosing certain conditions related to the horse's living situation or diet. While the nature of a mobile practice means there isn't a traditional clinic for walk-ins, the focus is entirely on bringing high-quality care to the client. This service model is particularly beneficial for those with multiple horses, as it simplifies the logistics of scheduling and managing their veterinary care. The emphasis on appointments also helps in organizing the day efficiently, which is important for a business that travels to multiple locations.

Given the ambulatory nature of the practice, making an appointment is essential for all services. It is recommended to contact them by phone to discuss your horse’s needs and arrange a convenient time for a farm call. This allows them to effectively plan their travel and bring any necessary equipment or medications.
Choosing a veterinarian for your horse is a significant decision, and Spinnaker Farm Equine Veterinary offers several compelling reasons to be your top choice in Washington. First and foremost is the convenience and effectiveness of their ambulatory service. For many horse owners, the stress of loading and hauling a horse, especially one that is ill or injured, can be overwhelming. Spinnaker Farm eliminates this challenge by bringing a fully-equipped veterinary service right to your property. This allows for care to be administered in a familiar setting, which can be less stressful for the animal and more informative for the vet. The practice's specialization in equines means that all their knowledge, equipment, and resources are focused on the unique needs of horses. This is a considerable advantage over a general practice that sees a variety of animals.
Furthermore, the professional integrity and expertise of Dr. Wenzell are highly valued by clients. As one client noted, her ability to be "knowledgeable and concise" while also being willing to "refer out to a specialist readily" demonstrates a commitment to the horse's well-being above all else. This honesty and collaboration are critical in complex cases. While there have been some client concerns regarding communication and billing, these instances highlight the importance of clear, upfront communication, which is a good practice to engage in with any service provider. Ultimately, for horse owners seeking a professional, knowledgeable, and highly convenient veterinary service that is dedicated to a personalized approach and has a strong background in the equine world, Spinnaker Farm Equine Veterinary is a worthy choice. Their commitment to ambulatory care and a specialized focus on horses makes them a vital resource for the equestrian community in the greater Washington area.

September 19 · Shannon BrentWill never use heather again. Very unprofessional, rude and did not explain everything I needed to do for my mare. I asked her how much the visit would roughly cost, she said 200. Ended up to be 345. I sent her a message about the price and she never responded. She charged me extra on my farm calls because she could not find my place. Normal farm call is 50. Because she got lost and her GPS sent her in the wrong direction she increased it to 65 and because she got lost. Not my fault the GPA sent her in circles.

July 27 · Kim TracyI started using Dr Garrett in late 2014 when she was able to get my Appaloosa gelding sound . Then my favorite horse of all time an older Appaloosa mare was also made sound. She is very professional and gives and explains owners all of the options . I trust her judgement
