The reviews for The Village Vets Decatur-Ponce present a mix of very positive and negative experiences, which is important for a balanced perspective. A highly positive review highlights a long-term relationship built on trust and excellent care. The client praises the staff for treating their dog "like she were their own baby" and mentions that the dog "loved going to the vet, which isn't normal." Dr. Bailey is specifically called out for being "the sweetest, most loving vet" and for providing comforting care during the pet's last days. This feedback points to a clinic that can create a deep, personal connection with its clients.
On the other hand, a negative review describes a "worst experience" where a pet owner felt the physical exam was "everything but thorough." The client experienced administrative issues, including a lost fecal sample and a significant delay in receiving a prescription for heartworm medication, which they had to follow up on multiple times. This feedback indicates a potential for inconsistency in administrative processes and follow-up care.
Features and Highlights:
- Highly Compassionate and Caring Staff: Dr. Bailey is noted for her kindness and supportive approach, especially during a pet's final days.
- Long-Term Client Relationships: The clinic has a history of building lasting trust with clients over many years.

- Convenient and Accessible Location: The facility is located in a central area with full accessibility features.
- Emergency Services: As part of The Village Vets network, the Decatur-Ponce location provides access to a 24-hour emergency hospital.
The mixed reviews suggest that while the quality of veterinary care from some doctors is exceptional, there may be challenges with administrative and follow-up procedures. It is crucial for pet owners to weigh these factors and perhaps confirm a detailed plan for medication and follow-up care during their visit.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I had been going to Village Vets of Decatur for almost 15 years and I can't say enough positive things about them. They treated my dog like she were their own baby and always followed up to see how she was after a visit. They genuinely knew my dog and my dog loved going to the vet, which isn't normal. I would like to especially call out Dr. Bailey--she is the sweetest, most loving vet I've ever had and she made my baby's last days so comforting for both her and for me. She's amazing.
August 11 · Erik KlineThis is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had at a vet clinic. When I brought in my newly adopted dog for a thorough physical, it was everything but thorough. They threw away the fecal sample I brought in and failed to provide a prescription for heartworm medication. I then called to follow up on a prescription and they said they would have the vet take care of. It. It’s been 10 days and I just called back and they still don’t have it taken care of while my dog is overdue for his heartworm medication. I would certainly not recommend this location.
August 20 · Eric GrayThis is a great vet office. I am able to get appointments quickly. The facility is always clean, no odors at all. The wait time is not too long. The staff is very nice and accommodating. The veterinarians educate by explaining terminology, diagnosis, processes (body), and medical procedures in a way the layman can understand. My only issue is not receiving a return call from the vet when I leave a message or else this feedback would be 5⭐️. I have waited a week for the doctor to return my call because my fur baby is in pain l. The doctor has been in office and I have left 3 messages. I do not like calling repeatedly because it feels incessant.I am disappointed because I mentioned the pain on our last visit but the doctor did said he did not notice any pain during the exam. I wished I shown him where to make sure because the next day when I touched my baby’s face he screamed out in pain. He has been doing the same whenever I touched that particular area on his to clean it from discharged no matter how gentle I try to be.
March 31 · A Google UserUPDATE to response:I find it pretty disrespectful that Village Vets blamed miscommunication issues on me and my sister, when these issues were caused by the staffs' lack of communication and honesty. The quote that was "okayed" was a range, not an exact total. You all can see the continued deflective attitude in their response that I have recieved throughout this whole process.Shady, unprofessional practice. I was in for an appointment in January for my dog to get her bloodwork done in order to schedule a dental appointment in February, as my normal vet was full. The reason I came to Village Vets was because they advertised on their website a dental discount for the month of February (now taken down after misleading me and another customer). Besides the webpage, I was very clear with multiple staff members including a vet tech about how important the discount for a dental cleaning was. Before signing a quote, the vet tech assured me that discounts are applied on the day of service. Upon scheduling the appointment, the front desk staff member squeezed me in for February 28th -- all for the purpose of the DENTAL MONTH DISCOUNT.The day of picking up my dog, I was told by the manager and "higher ups" that they would not be honoring the discount, as the web page was old, "fake", and they don't offer discounts for dental month. You can only imagine my surprise and frusteration, especially now after being lied to and having my dog be under anesthesia in their care. This was all very stressful and emotionally taxing. I was met with a lot of excuses and I could tell that they were trying to save their necks, for a lack of better term. The only staff member I felt who validated my bad experience was Dr.Bailey. I confided in a trusted friend, and vet tech, about this whole thing and she was apalled.Miscommunication happens, sure. But I was VERY clear from the get go. The said higher up, Amber Burks, took almost 3 weeks to respond to my email (and I was given an incorrect email at first) just to say that she would not be honoring the discount. This company is a scam at best. They did not make any attempt to better or resolve the situation, but instead dismissed me. Oh well, they got their money, right? They are greedy and do not care about making things right whatsoever. Please stay away and spend your money at a reputable and HONEST practice.
March 20 · brianna rizzoUPDATEMy guy has A full crush on Dr. Bailey! He is never let me open his mouth, or anyone else. In for a checkup to get his teeth cleaned. I was told he was a great boy, opened his mouth no problem, came in wagging his tail. So how can I not go there, when my guy has a crush on Dr. Bailey.UPDATE!!! I was in a car accident. Sofritos needs his meds for hypothyroid. I asked for them to ship. Maddie Paddleford is literally bringing them to me!!! Can we say BEYOND THE CALL of duty. Wow. I am in gratitude to her!! What an incredible gift!UPDATEI need to add that Dr Bailey is also extremely patient. It turned out that some of my Dudes blood work was off. We needed to get his thyroid into good working order before we could do his very needed dental work. I didn't get how his thyroid would interfere with his dental work. Turns out that a thyroid being off and anesthesia don't mix well. After that was explained to me, there was no way I was going to put my Dude at risk. He is also a senior so....not taking ANY chances.Dr Bailey was totally on top of communicating with me, about some medications and about not doing the dental work until his thyroid was in normal limits.Honestly I can not say express enough how Dr Bailey is outstanding. My guy trusts her which is a BIG deal and I trust her!!!!!! The staff has been on top of it too. I had fallen today and was out of it yet everyone was so so patient with me. There might be less expensive vets out there yet check there reviews. Would you trust your kid to be in the hands of a 2.5 rating? This place has a caring staff and great service. My Dude just adored Dr Bailey. He opened his mouth for her. You might be thinking no big deal, yet for Sofrito that was a HUGE deal. It was the, first time he has done that. He is a rescue and because of that as well as living in a place that scared him, that was a BIG BIG deal. Dr Bailey not only is a good vet her compassion came through so much Sofrito allowed her to look at his teeth. That meant he trusted her, a huge step for my dog. Sofrito is my everything so to have a place that understands that, a caring staff and an incredible vet how could I not give this place 5 stars. I would have given 10 of I had the opportunity . I will be making my appointments with Dr Bailey from now on.
