What is worth choosing
When it comes to specialized veterinary care, the choice of a clinic is often determined by the depth of expertise and the quality of compassionate care. Atlanta Veterinary Eye Clinic is a standout choice for residents of Georgia seeking help with their pet's eye health for several compelling reasons. The primary value lies in the specialized knowledge of Dr. Powell-Johnson and her team. Unlike a general veterinarian who handles a broad range of issues, a veterinary ophthalmologist has the advanced training and specific equipment to diagnose and treat complex eye diseases, such as glaucoma and cataracts. This focus ensures that your pet is receiving the highest level of care possible for their specific condition. The personal touch and dedication of Dr. Powell-Johnson, as described in client testimonials, make a significant difference. The story of Bogi, a dog with "pretty intense eye issues" who was still "excited to go inside to see Dr. Powell," is a powerful example of the trust and positive environment the clinic fosters. This is not just a place for medical procedures; it's a place where pets feel comfortable and cared for, which is a key part of their healing process.
The clinic’s commitment to client communication and education is another crucial factor. The doctor takes the time to discuss every concern and provide a detailed care plan, ensuring pet owners are fully informed and empowered in their animal’s treatment journey. This is a level of service that builds a strong partnership and helps alleviate the stress often associated with a pet's health problems. While the clinic has received a negative review about a denied appointment, it is important to understand that specialized, referral-based practices sometimes must make difficult decisions regarding their patient load and the specific needs they can address. This type of situation, while upsetting for the individual, does not negate the clinic’s long-standing reputation for providing excellent, life-changing care for many other animals. The fact that the clinic is a Black-owned and women-owned business is an important detail that highlights its unique place in the community. Ultimately, for pet owners in Georgia who require a specialist for their animal’s eyes, Atlanta Veterinary Eye Clinic offers a unique blend of deep expertise, compassionate care, and a personalized approach that makes it a trusted and worthwhile choice for preserving their pet’s vision and well-being.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Dr. Powell-Johnson and her staff are amazing! Dr. Powell puts a lot of heart in to her practice and takes her time to discuss concerns and gives a detailed care plan. She always goes above and beyond and truly cares for her clients. We have been a client of Dr Powell's since 2016. Bogi had pretty intense eye issues but absolutely loved to go into the clinic and was always excited to go inside to see Dr. Powell and her staff.
February 24 · Dara GoodwinCalled this morning and made an appointment for my dog with glaucoma to get refills on his eye drops and to hopefully get more meds for him.Made the appointment for July 29 at 10am.Got a call back a minute ago and was told they can’t follow through on the appointment or send refills. I asked if they were “firing” me as a client and they said “yes”. I’ve only been here one time and I paid in full after my visit. Glad to know they don’t care about animals.
July 22 · Jenilee BlackburnAmazing experience at Atlanta Veterinary Eye Clinic. Our two year-old is now a patient of Dr. Powell‘s following his sudden onset of complete blindness. In Dr. Powell, we have found a level of compassion, care and expertise beyond compare. So understanding and takes time with us, she offers graciously her knowledge and implementation of care which, combined with excellent patient education, has set our dog, Linus, on a path of tremendous help and also a new life of hope. We are so grateful.
January 30 · Kristine MooreDr. Powell is excellent, conscientious, compassionate and very knowledgeable. She takes the time to explain all information about your fur baby and she answers any and all questions you have. More importantly my fur baby loves her and she is the best judge!
January 30 · Jackie StephensonI took my senior cat to Dr. Gail and her staff after 3 visits in 2 weeks to her regular vet couldn’t figure out what was causing her to have a corneal ulcer and why it wasn’t healing.Dr. Gail’s staff were very quick in processing my referral from our vet and contacting me to schedule our appointment. I was able to get in the same week. Arrival was easy, plenty of parking and the gentleman working as her veterinary technician was friendly and brought the paperwork to my car. After I filled it out, I went in with my cat. The vet tech gave me a cloth with calming pheromones on it to help my cat feel comfortable. After a few minutes, I brought her to Dr. Gail’s exam room and Dr. Gail took it from there! I sat in the waiting room while my cat was cared for. It didn’t take very long for Dr. Gail to come out and provide a detailed diagnosis (complete with a hand drawn eye diagram!) and a plan of care with clear instructions. While the specific medications for my cat’s eye problem are expensive, Dr. Gail’s clinic actually charged less for the same medication than my regular vet, and the testing I was charged for at Dr. Gail’s office was less than half of what my regular vet charged for the same test. From the moment I walked in it was clear Dr. Gail and her staff are passionate about helping animals and I am so happy to report that thanks to their help my cat is on the mend!
