Let me share a story of compassion and commitment versus corporate greed . Four days ago ,Duke ,our 3 month old King Corso Mastiff mix pup became very sick, lethargic, couldn’t eat or drink without vomiting. He was thin when we adopted him thirty days ago and his condition was rapidly deteriorating. We called Dr Gregory Seblink at Tri County Veterinary Clinic and were told to bring him right in. Upon examination , Dr Seblink informed us that Duke had an intestinal blockage and needed an emergency operation to save his life. The doctor informed us that he was not equipped with the proper medical equipment to feel confident in performing the surgery and suggested several nearby hospital options. We called a hospital in North East PA and were informed they couldn’t help us on such short notice , strike one. We called the ARC in Erie to be told we needed to supply financial information before they would give the dying pup life saving assistance and we we’re also told they couldn’t do the surgery for two days!! Knowing Duke did not have that long we politely declined, strike two. Orchard Park said to bring him and they could do it that day and told us to bring him , their next breath was to inform us to bring $9000.00 dollars with the puppy!!! I was shocked and appalled by these clinics total disregard for the life of a puppy!, focusing more on their surgeons schedule and monetary compensation!!! Dr Seblink allowed us to make the calls from his office and became aware of our most dire situation. Duke didn’t have two days and I didn’t have $9000.00 !! He offered to try and save Duke but because of his age and condition couldn’t promote a positive outcome only that he would do his best to help our puppy. Dr Seblink said to leave Duke in the care of his absolutely wonderful assistants and receptionist who said she would keep Duke on her lap til the Dr could do the surgery!! What an amazing lady!! All of his staff are truly amazing and epitomize the true meaning of veterinary care. Patient first!!! We hesitated to leave but knew in our hearts Duke was in a caring , loving environment. We went home to await the phone call of the outcome of the surgery and the inevitable yay or nay The call came ….. Duke had made it !!! Dr Seblink removed the blockage ( a large piece of of what appeared to be cloth) Duke came home to a houseful of wet faces ! Wet with tears of joy but some of those tears were formed from the gratitude we had, and the compassion showed to our pup as swell as us by the warmth ,kindness and professionalism of Dr Seblink and his amazing staff !! Payment for the saving of our puppy’s life was discussed ,a FRACTION of what Orchard Park required ! Never asked for a credit card or payment up front! Dr Seblink and his staff are to be lauded !! The true definition of the word “Veterinarian!!!” - Patrick Gregory
