What is worth choosing
For Michigan pet owners, choosing Union Lake Veterinary Hospital is a decision that extends far beyond just finding a pharmacy. It's about entrusting your pet's health to a team that offers an unparalleled level of integrated and compassionate care. The most significant advantage is the seamless connection between the veterinary services and the in-house pharmacy. When a veterinarian diagnoses a condition and prescribes medication, the pharmacy is right there to fill it. This eliminates the hassle of taking a paper prescription elsewhere and ensures that the medicine is exactly what the vet intended, with a direct line of communication between the doctor and the pharmacist. This integrated system is not only convenient but also enhances the safety and effectiveness of your pet's treatment plan.
Furthermore, the value of Union Lake Veterinary Hospital lies in its holistic approach to animal wellness. It is a place where you can find a unique blend of traditional veterinary medicine and alternative, holistic treatments like acupuncture and chiropractic care. This diversity in care options means that your pet's health can be managed with a personalized plan that considers all aspects of their well-being. The clinic's commitment to creating a comfortable, fear-free environment is also a huge draw, especially for pets with anxiety or a nervous disposition. The experience of one new pet parent, whose dog fell asleep on the vet during an exam, speaks volumes about the gentle and reassuring atmosphere. This focus on positive experiences makes vet visits less stressful for both pets and their owners, fostering a stronger bond and encouraging consistent care.
Finally, Union Lake Veterinary Hospital's identity as a community-oriented, inclusive business is a key reason for its appeal. Identifying as women-owned and offering a welcoming environment for all, including those in the LGBTQ+ community, shows a commitment to more than just animal health. It reflects a dedication to building a safe, accepting, and friendly space for everyone. The on-site availability of a wide range of services—from a pet pharmacy to doggie daycare, boarding, and training—means that Union Lake Veterinary Hospital is truly a partner in every stage of your pet's life. It’s a complete pet care destination, making it an ideal and trustworthy choice for any pet owner in the greater Waterford area.

Bringing a new puppy or kitten into the family is always a happy and exciting event, but along with your new bundle of joy comes responsibility. Soon after bringing your new pet home, a visit to your veterinarian within the first few days will be necessary to make sure he or she is healthy.
- Regular Checkups
- Senior Pet Care

- Shockwave Therapy
- Soft Tissue Surgery
- Spay And Neuter Surgery
- Spay and Neuter
Over 13 million pets are put to death in our nation’s animal shelters each year for lack of homes. That is why responsible pet owners make sure that their pets are not contributing the over-population problem. Spaying or neutering your young, healthy pet will reduce certain infections and cancers.
- Therapeutic Lasers
- Therapeutic Ultrasound

- Veterinary Allergy Testing
Since pet allergies can be caused by any one of many factors, our trained staff will rely both on discussions with you about your pet’s symptoms and test results. Pet allergies are usually not life threatening, but they do reduce your pet’s comfort and quality of life.
- Veterinary Behavioral Services
Our team uses only positive and scientifically sound techniques that include counter-conditioning, desensitization, and positive reinforcement. In addition to the behavior modification plan, medications may be prescribed at the time of the appointment to aid in the progress of your dog’s behavior.
- Veterinary Cardiology
While regular checkups and the observance of healthy habits will not always prevent the onset of heart problems, they will give us a better opportunity to catch symptoms early, so your pet can continue to live a normal life if heart problems should occur.
- Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine
- Veterinary Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care relies on encouraging proper alignment of the bones and muscles to relieve pain and improve body function. Dr. Liba is Certified in Animal Chiropractic therapy.
- Veterinary Dental Care
The best way to avoid dental problems for your pet is to practice good dental care starting at an early age, including regular brushing of your pet’s teeth. If you have a new pet, our trained staff will be happy to explain how you can start a good home dental care program for your pet.
- Veterinary Dental Cleanings & Surgery
When a professional dental cleaning is warranted, your pet will have to be anesthetized to ensure his or her comfort, safety, and well-being. Before, during, and after a professional cleaning, you can expect complete blood work, a full oral exam, x-rays of the chest and abdomen, and more.
- Veterinary Dermatology
Since many pet skin problems are preventable, our veterinary staff can advise simple and inexpensive steps you can take to help your pet avoid these concerns.
- Veterinary Diagnostic Services
- Veterinary Digital X-Ray & Ultrasound
Both digital X-ray and ultrasound enable our veterinarians to view and diagnose problems inside your pet without having to resort to exploratory surgery. These non-invasive, non-surgical diagnostic procedures eliminate the stress and discomfort of having to potentially undergo exploratory surgery.
- Veterinary EKG
Electrocardiogram, or EKG, is a non-invasive procedure that allows a veterinarian to check how your pet’s heart is performing. It measures the rate and regularity of the pet’s heartbeats and also measures the size and position of the heart chambers.
- Veterinary Emergency Service
- Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care
We are open seven days a week and we’re open late until 8 pm Monday through Friday for emergencies. With twelve veterinarians on staff, you will always find a professional on duty to provide emergency care. Our hospital is well-equipped to handle pet emergencies with care and compassion.
- Veterinary End of Life Care
Let our trained and caring staff assist you in making your pet’s last days as comfortable as possible. We offer pain management, end-of-life advice, humane and gentle euthanasia, on-site cremation, and the option to have your pet's name inscribed on our on-site pet memorial wall.
- Veterinary Endocrinology
Diabetes is one condition that results from a problem with your pet’s endocrine system. Regular wellness care visits for your pet can enable our veterinarians to diagnose and treat diseases such as diabetes early, allowing your pet to lead a long and happy life with you.
- Veterinary Endoscopy
We pride ourselves in being a complete pet care complex with staff trained in the use of the latest veterinary equipment. One of these tools, called an endoscope, is a long, flexible tube with a tiny camera at its tip. It's used for obtaining biopsy samples or retrieving foreign objects.
- Veterinary Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy is one of the treatments we use for treating osteoarthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, fractures, and other musculoskeletal disorders in your pets. It involves the use of a probe to deliver a series of focused, high-pressure sound waves to the affected area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Loved our first experience today! I’m a new pet parent and the vet room was so relaxing and not sterile and scary. My dog fell asleep on the vet when she was listening to his heart! Talk about feeling comfortable. We are also doing some puppy training! She answered all my questions and all the vet techs loved my puppy.
March 28 · Kate WilsonUL Vet has always been a very nice office. They are caring & good to my pets. We had the sweetest lab they cared for 15 years. Last year we got a 7 month old lab rescue, she is very nervous, was not socialized so for us high maintenance but they are gentle and handle her well. I appreciate that they take their time with her & explain how to care for her when timid & nervous as this is a change for us. I feel there prices are fair & in line with other clinics.
March 08 · Michelle MillikanI can’t begin to say how amazing the staff is from the Vets, Vet techs, front counter and billing. They’ve cared for my now almost 12 year old German Shepherd, Jack, for his whole life. While generally he’s been healthy, we have had minor visits from limping, dental procedures, vaccinations, etc. They have always done the right thing for him and cared for him as their own.I can proudly say Union Lake Veterinary Hospital is the reason my dog is still in great health after all these years!
March 25 · JamesI have been coming to Union Lake Vet for my pets for two decades because they prove on each and every visit they are a level above most vets. The level of expertise, of care, of detail that we've experienced from front desk, to techs to doctors, not to mention therapy and other services, has been unmatched in my experience anywhere else. Their work culture and love of animals creates a compassionate and clean environment that takes some stress off pet parents and pets at the tensest of times. And I would be remiss if I were to not mention how comfortable and sweet their end of life services are- private rooms made just for being there for your best furry bud when you are needed most, and even a check-in from the office with grief services. Unmatched- and I will keep coming here as long as I can. Thank you, Union Lake Vets!
July 11 · Kim RainUpdate: Update: It was later confirmed that both the Office Manager and Hospital Administrator were out of office at the time this occurred and were not consulted. Upon her return, the Hospital Administrator responded promptly, took ownership of the situation, and resolved the matter appropriately. She also addressed the issue with the individuals involved and updated internal protocols to ensure similar situations are handled more effectively in the future. I appreciate it and adjusting my review accordingly.A $600 Grooming Bill and No AccountabilityI selected this grooming service because it operates under a veterinary hospital. Their rates are about 30 percent higher than most groomers in the area, but I considered the premium an added layer of protection in case something went wrong during the appointment. That assumption was a mistake. This is a cautionary tale for anyone who believes the veterinary affiliation offers any real recourse. It does not. Both of my dogs were groomed during the same visit. One of them began displaying unusual behavior shortly afterward, chasing his tail and whining as if something was irritating him. I called the next morning and was transferred to the vet clinic. I was told they could see him, but if the issue could not be directly attributed to grooming, I would be charged the full $140 exam fee.I agreed to the visit. The veterinarian found no clear cause but noted mild inflammation that may have been the result of grooming. The total bill from that appointment was over $350, in addition to the original $170 grooming charge. At no point did anyone take responsibility, offer an apology, or even extend a courtesy discount, despite my raising the concern immediately after the grooming session. If you are prepared to pay close to $600 for grooming with no support when something goes wrong, then by all means schedule your next appointment. If you expect basic accountability and customer care, look elsewhere. This was poor service supported by unacceptable business practices.
