When considering where to seek help for a pet's behavioral issues, Veterinary Behavior Consultations in Spicewood, Texas, is an outstanding choice for a multitude of reasons. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Our pup, Wally, sees Dr. Kenneth Martin for multiple behavioral issues, and we are so pleased with the care we’ve received from this incredible vet. We have seen an improvement in our pup and credit Dr. Martin with coming up with a very effective treatment plan. He provided a very comprehensive and very thorough assessment of Wally. We felt heard and all our concerns addressed. He regularly keeps in touch with us and is always available to answer questions, contacting us on nights and weekends. It is clear that he is very dedicated to his patients and their families. I can see why our vet told us that Dr. Martin was top in his field. We thought there would be a long wait to see him, but we had no issues getting a quick appointment.

August 29 · Laura ColeI don't even know where to begin when it comes to describing how thoroughly Dr. Martin and Debbie Martin have changed the lives of our family. Our dog is highly reactive and requires incredibly specialized care. We had been "fired" from countless vets, had spent thousands of dollars on training, and were feeling hopeless when we finally found Veterinary Behavior Consultations. At last we felt like someone was listening to us and the relief that came with knowing that our pup was finally in the right hands was immeasurable. The Martins are an incredibly knowledgeable, professional, highly responsive, and caring team who have truly gone above and beyond to help us navigate our dog's unique challenges. Better still, our visits to them are peaceful and fear-free for all of us. It has given us enormous peace of mind to know that they are always just a phone call or email away for any questions or concerns. We can't thank them enough for all they have done for us and we truly consider them a part of our village in ensuring our dog a happy and healthy life. We would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who is facing similar challenges.
July 29 · Dara DerionWhen I first heard about Veterinary Behavior Consultants I was really excited as I thought this would be perfect for my very anxious dog who was unable to meet strangers.I was able to get a consult a few months out which wasn't a big problem at the time and the first meeting was us taking our dog to them and them talking with us and asking questions. This seemed to go really well and they said we'd have a video call in a week. There were two parts to the video call. Part 1, Dr Martin went over a plethora of new and/or higher dosages of medications for my dog, even though I had already voiced that I'd love to wean him off of medications, if possible, at our first meeting. This part was strange as he did all the talking and there was no room for discussion.Part 2, going over training. This seemed to be on a tight schedule and run via a template. For example, we were shown how to put on a muzzle, even though we already know how to do this, and our dog was on a muzzle for our in-person appointment. When I let them know we already know how to do this, they said that it would be good for us to know this and continued to show us how to muzzle a dog. After that call, I was left feeling like they didn't care about my dog or listen to any of the information we provided, but rather were just giving him the general medications and training from a templated plan. I was worried about giving my dog so many medications and I thought it would be a good idea to email them and ask, as well as see if there were any studies that I can check out. Dr Martin's response to that email read as condescending and dismissive. Nothing that was said made me feel at ease or that they took my worries seriously.I'm sure this practice has helped numerous animals, but the level of professionalism and care I thought I'd be getting was certainly not what I received.
June 21 · Bonnie WalterWe came to Dr. Martin in 2020 at our wit’s end and feeling completely desperate. I had adopted Gigi, a very skittish and nervous rescue dog back in 2017, that had been surrendered by her owner after a history of neglect. Although her and I had bonded and established a relationship of trust, upon moving in with my partner in late 2019 she began to exhibit very reactive behavior toward him. She growled, bared her teeth, lunged, and even bit him, if he ever came too close to her while she was near me. She was possessive and protective over me, and her relationship with me. It had created so much stress in our house, placed a palpable strain on my relationship, and was weighing heavily on poor Gigi too. I was embarrassed…but I knew we needed professional help. Once I met Dr. and Debbie Martin, I knew we were in good hands. They were both so kind and understanding. They took time to ask questions and really understand our home life so they could recommend an easy and straightforward training plan that we could stick too. I was initially nervous about medicating Gigi, but Dr. Martin was so informative on how the stress of each of those incidents could in and of itself be a health/safety concern for her. We had to find her happy baseline. Just as some people need medicinal intervention to help them find an emotional baseline that allows them to live happy and productive lives, so can our dogs. With Dr. and Debbie Martin’s guidance and simple training plan, a little medication, and a lot of consistency, we began to see improvement in only four weeks. Two years later, we have made a complete 180z. Gigi is happier than she has ever been. She spins and gives my partner what we call “drive-by” leg licks. She sunbathes with her mouth open and her eyes half closed, wiggling around in the warm grass in excitement. But she is happiest when she gets to snuggle next to him on the couch. She is less stressed and her personality shines through more and more very day. We are so thankful for Dr. and Debbie Martin and the hope and fresh start they gave our family.
