They play a crucial role in supporting animal rescues and individual pet owners alike in their mission to provide responsible pet care.
Upstate Spay and Neuter is situated at 34 Esopus Ave, Ulster Park, NY 12487, USA. This location places them within Ulster County, making them a accessible option for residents in Ulster Park itself, as well as those in nearby towns like Kingston, Port Ewen, Saugerties, and beyond. Their presence in Ulster Park means they are embedded within a community that values local services and convenient access to essential pet care.
Accessibility is a key consideration for any veterinary service, particularly for scheduled procedures like spaying and neutering. The clinic's address on Esopus Avenue suggests a potentially straightforward route for those traveling by car. While public transportation options might be limited in this specific area, the clinic's focus on a specialized service means that most clients will likely plan their visit, often traveling by personal vehicle. It is always advisable for pet owners to confirm directions and parking availability prior to their appointment. The dedicated nature of their services often means a streamlined process for drop-off and pick-up, designed to handle a high volume of procedures efficiently, which contributes to their overall accessibility for the New York community they serve.
Upstate Spay and Neuter specializes in providing affordable, high-volume spay and neuter services for cats and dogs. Their primary focus is on these essential sterilization procedures, which are crucial for pet population control and individual animal health. While detailed information about every possible service might not be publicly available beyond their core offering, based on their specialization and customer reviews, the following are the primary services and associated care they provide:
Spay Procedures (Female Animals): Surgical sterilization for female cats and dogs, involving the removal of the ovaries and uterus. This procedure prevents pregnancy and can significantly reduce the risk of certain cancers and uterine infections.
Neuter Procedures (Male Animals): Surgical sterilization for male cats and dogs, involving the removal of the testicles. This procedure prevents reproduction and can help reduce undesirable behaviors such as roaming, spraying, and aggression, while also mitigating the risk of certain health issues.
Pre-Surgical Screening: While not explicitly detailed, standard veterinary practice for spay/neuter clinics often includes a basic health check prior to surgery to ensure the pet is a suitable candidate for anesthesia and the procedure.
Anesthesia and Monitoring: Administration of appropriate anesthesia and monitoring of vital signs during the surgical procedure to ensure the pet's safety and comfort.
Post-Operative Care Instructions: Providing pet owners with clear guidelines and instructions for proper post-surgical care at home, including information on pain management, incision site care, and activity restrictions, to ensure a smooth recovery.
Affordable Pricing Structure: A key aspect of their service model is making spay and neuter procedures accessible through a low-cost pricing structure, which is vital for rescue organizations and pet owners on a budget.
It is important for potential clients to directly contact Upstate Spay and Neuter to inquire about specific details, pricing for different animal sizes (as indicated in a review regarding "fat" cats), and any pre-operative requirements or additional services that might be offered.
Upstate Spay and Neuter offers several notable features and highlights that make them a distinct and valuable resource for pet owners in the New York region, particularly for those prioritizing accessible and affordable spay and neuter services.
Specialized Focus on Spay and Neuter: Unlike general veterinary practices that offer a wide range of services, Upstate Spay and Neuter has a dedicated focus on sterilization procedures. This specialization often translates into streamlined processes, efficiency, and a deep expertise in these specific surgeries. Their commitment to high-volume spaying and neutering is a significant highlight, directly contributing to reducing pet overpopulation.
Affordability: A crucial highlight of Upstate Spay and Neuter is their commitment to providing these vital services at an affordable price point. This makes essential pet care accessible to a broader range of pet owners, including those with limited financial resources, and is invaluable for animal rescue organizations that manage large numbers of animals.
High Surgical Skill: As evidenced by a customer review, the quality of surgical work, particularly the appearance of incisions, is highly praised. One review explicitly mentions incisions looking like they were done by a "Beverly Hills plastic surgeon," which speaks volumes about the veterinarian's surgical precision and care. This indicates a high level of technical proficiency and attention to detail during the procedure.
Efficiency in Scheduling: The ability to secure an appointment quickly, sometimes even for the next day, is a significant advantage. This rapid scheduling is particularly beneficial for pet owners who need to get their animals spayed or neutered promptly, whether for personal reasons or for urgent rescue operations.
Trust from Animal Rescues: The fact that an animal rescue has trusted them with "hundreds of cats" without any problems underscores their reliability and consistent quality of care. This high volume of successful procedures for rescue organizations is a strong testament to their effectiveness and the confidence placed in their services by those deeply involved in animal welfare.
While there was a detailed negative review regarding customer service interactions and communication at the mobile unit, it is important to note that the primary positive feedback centers around the medical efficacy of their core service – the spay and neuter surgeries themselves – and their affordability. Pet owners seeking a specialized, cost-effective solution for these procedures may find Upstate Spay and Neuter to be a valuable resource. It is always recommended for clients to clarify all aspects of the process and any potential additional charges upfront.

Upstate Spay and Neuter Reviews
This vet is amazing. Not only does she do the important work of spaying and neutering many pets each week, she makes sure it is affordable. She has neutered 100s of cats for my rescue and there has never been a problem. Her incisions look like they were done by a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon. I trust her 110% with my animals.
Jun 11, 2025 · EmilyI called yesterday and was able to get my cat in the next day for a spay. Very excited to be able to get in so quickly I asked many questions and was told to just bring my cat and a form of payment. I drove 45 minutes to kingston walmart. I stood in line behind a few people and started speaking to another woman behind me who also had a cat who needed to be spayed. When I was up next, the woman inside of the truck representing Upstate Spay & Neuter (USN) asked me what I was here for. I informed her that I had my cat who needed to be spayed and I was added in last night. I also informed her my cat was very nervous. She took the carrier with no hesitation or response and quickly dropped the carrier onto the ground of the truck. She then asked the woman behind me what she was there for and took her cat as well. USN then started explaining what I would have to fill out on the paper work. She told me I would have to fill out the price portion but "because you're cat is fat it will be an extra charge." She tried to continue speaking and I stopped her to ask what the extra charge would be and how that would be factored. She told me again it was because I had such a "large cat" and "well we have to weigh the cat right?" Which I then responded I don't know that you haven't told me anything. She then proceeded to speak to the other woman that I had just met and started telling her what she would have to fill out. I cut USN off and told her that she hadn't explained anything to me and just kept telling me I have a large cat. After this she said "you know what, you want to give me attitude you can have your cat back!" And handed me my cat. I told her this wasn't right since I did nothing wrong and was just trying to get the representative of the company I was at to explain to me what the process was. She then asked the woman behind me if she wanted her cat back too and she said "yes I don't want you to be working on my cat if that's how you treat people." We both walked away and another woman asked what happened and even said that neither of us had attitude or were rude to the woman. I am very respectful and very attentive towards my animals. I do not think anyone would have appreciated the way USN spoke to me or the woman I had just met in line. I'm sure this one woman doesn't represent the entire company but it is important who you have speaking to your customers and how they feel leaving their pet in your care. In the photos the cat I brought is shown, she is the grey and white cat who is maybe 8 pounds at most, next to my 14 pound cat. The carrier I had is heavy on its own. Regardless. These people need to learn customer service.
Aug 16, 2024 · alyssa lynnPLEASE READ: The Audacity; extremely rude and unprofessional.Upstate Spay and Neuter Services were recommended to us from a family friend (though to my knowledge they haven’t used their services). I called, left a detailed message about my dog, and said I’d like to get her spayed. No response. A few days later, my mother called inquiring about my dog getting spayed. No response. About a week later, my boyfriend called, again inquiring about our dog. No response. About a week after that, my boyfriend receives a call from them. To his surprise, the woman on the phone says, “We don’t want to spay your old, fat dog”. Shocked and confused, he responds “Okay”? The woman promptly hung up on him. Almost a month of trying to get my dog in for an appointment. For Reference, my dog is a 5 year old Shih Tzu who weighs about 12 pounds, which is perfectly healthy. After reading just some of the many, many bad reviews about this place, I actually feel like we dodged a bullet. Terrible customer service, harassment of clients, and I’d go so far as to say, animal abuse and malpractice. My deepest sympathies to the pets and owners who had to deal with horrible complications from going through with this company. I can’t NOT recommend this place enough
Sep 20, 2024 · sophie mccarthyZero stars! I asked about my cat being spayed and the lady on the phone said I can book you and the night before I can answer all of your questions. So the night before, she calls to confirm. I say I think my cat is in heat again so I’m not sure if you can still do it. She says yes we will see you tomorrow. I said well here are the symptoms and she is a new cat do you think that she is in heat. I’ve never had a female cat before so I’m unsure if I even need to spay her. She laughed and said we will see you tomorrow. I then calmly and kindly explained my concerns and that I would like some education on this. She said we will see you tomorrow and then I said so there will be no conversation about this is what you are telling me and she said nope and hung up. Needless to say they will not be getting my business and I wish I read all these terrible reviews earlier. I don’t know if I was speaking to their scheduler or representative of the company or the actual vet but either way, no explanation when you’re going to slice my cat open in the Walmart parking lot? I don’t think so. You’re a mobile unit, you need to provide some reassurance.
