The health and well-being of our animal companions are paramount, and choosing the right veterinary clinic is a decision that requires careful consideration. This article aims to provide an objective overview of Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital located in Kingston, NY. We will present information based on publicly available data and recent customer feedback, offering local New York pet owners insights to help them understand what to expect from this particular veterinary service.
Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital operates as a part of the broader Vetco network, often associated with Petco retail stores, aiming to provide accessible veterinary services. The concept behind such clinics is typically to offer convenient, often in-store, veterinary care for common pet health needs. However, understanding the operational specifics and customer experiences is vital for local users. The provided customer reviews indicate some challenges regarding appointment scheduling and stated operating hours. These experiences highlight the importance of verifying information directly with the clinic before planning a visit, especially for crucial veterinary appointments.
The core philosophy of any veterinary practice should ideally revolve around compassionate animal care, clear communication, and efficient service. When considering a clinic like Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital, it is important for prospective clients to ascertain if these foundational elements align with their expectations for pet care. The experiences shared by recent customers suggest that there may be discrepancies between advertised availability and actual operational readiness, which is a key point for local New York pet owners to be aware of when considering this facility for their animals' health needs. Understanding these nuances can help manage expectations and ensure a smoother experience when seeking veterinary attention in Kingston.
Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital is located at 1175 Ulster Ave, Kingston, NY 12401, USA. This address places the veterinary clinic within a well-known commercial area of Kingston, often associated with larger retail establishments. Ulster Avenue is a significant thoroughfare in Kingston, ensuring that the location is generally accessible by car for residents of the city and surrounding areas within Ulster County.
The accessibility of any veterinary clinic is a crucial factor for pet owners in New York. A location within a commercial hub can offer the convenience of combining a veterinary visit with other errands. However, it is important for prospective clients to be aware of the specific entry points and parking arrangements for the Vetco clinic itself, as these can sometimes differ from the main retail store. For residents of nearby communities such as Port Ewen, Hurley, Woodstock, or Saugerties, the Kingston location on Ulster Avenue provides a centralized option for veterinary services. As noted in customer feedback, verifying specific operating hours and appointment booking procedures directly with the clinic is highly advisable, as there may be discrepancies that could impact the convenience and efficiency of a visit. While the physical address is clear, the practical accessibility for local users hinges on accurate and up-to-date information regarding their operational schedule.
As a Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital, this clinic typically aims to offer a range of essential veterinary services for common household pets, primarily focusing on dogs and cats. While a detailed list of every specific service should always be confirmed by contacting the clinic directly, based on the general model of Vetco clinics, pet owners in New York can usually expect the following types of services:
- Routine Wellness Exams: Comprehensive physical examinations vital for preventive care, helping to assess overall health and detect potential issues early.
- Vaccinations: Administration of core and lifestyle-dependent vaccinations to protect pets from common infectious diseases.
- Microchipping: Providing essential pet identification services to increase the chances of reunion if a pet becomes lost.
- Basic Diagnostic Testing: This might include certain in-house laboratory tests such as fecal exams for parasites, heartworm tests, and basic blood screenings. More complex diagnostics may require external lab services or referral.
- Parasite Prevention and Control: Dispensing and advising on products for the prevention and treatment of fleas, ticks, and intestinal parasites.
- Prescription Services: Providing common prescription medications for various pet ailments.
- Basic Illness and Injury Care: Addressing common, non-emergency illnesses (e.g., ear infections, skin conditions) and minor injuries.
- Spay/Neuter Services: Many Vetco clinics offer routine spay and neuter surgeries, often through partnerships or in-house, designed to promote responsible pet ownership.
- Dental Cleanings: Non-surgical dental cleanings for basic oral hygiene may be offered.
It is important for local users to note that while these services are typically offered by Vetco Total Care locations, the scope and availability can vary. Given the customer feedback regarding operational inconsistencies, it is highly recommended to confirm the availability of specific services, especially for planned procedures or detailed consultations, directly with the Kingston clinic prior to your visit.
Based on the provided information, the features and highlights of Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital in Kingston, NY, from the perspective of local users, present a mixed picture. While the concept aims for convenience, the actual customer experience highlights specific areas for potential improvement:
- Online Booking System Issues: A significant highlight, albeit a negative one from the customer's perspective, is the apparent discrepancy between the online appointment booking system and the actual clinic operating hours. Customers reported being able to book 8:00 AM or 8:30 AM Saturday appointments, only to find the clinic closed or not operational at those times, leading to wasted trips and frustration. This suggests a disconnect between the digital scheduling platform and real-world clinic availability.
- Inconsistent Operational Hours: The reviews indicate confusion regarding the clinic's open hours. One customer noted that official office hours started at 8:30 AM despite an 8:00 AM booking, and another was told the clinic was "not open on Saturdays" despite online information suggesting otherwise. A "temporarily closed until today" sign further compounded the confusion, pointing to potential communication or operational challenges.
- Lack of Real-time Information/Communication: Customers expressed frustration that the phone number forwarded to urgent care who had "no idea what was going on," and in-store employees were the only source of conflicting information. This highlights a need for more robust and accurate communication channels, especially concerning operational status and appointments.
- Unmet Expectations for Convenience: While the association with Petco might imply convenience, the actual experiences of customers getting up early or wasting a Saturday morning due to scheduling errors significantly detract from this perceived benefit. For local New Yorkers relying on planned appointments, these incidents are a notable detractor.
- Potential for Disappointment: The sentiment "Didn’t have high expectations of Petco vet but this is even worse than thought" conveys significant disappointment. This suggests that while a budget-friendly option might be expected, fundamental issues with scheduling and communication severely impact the overall service quality perception.
Given the provided customer feedback, it is essential for prospective clients to exercise caution and directly verify all operational details.

Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital Reviews
Horrible. Got up early and arrived 10 mins before appt as directed after making online appointment for 8AM. Guess what? Office hours start 8:30 and phone number forwarded to urgent care who had no idea what was going on. Also the sign said temporarily closed until today. Didn’t have high expectations of Petco vet but this is even worse than thought.
Jun 10, 2025 · BJLBooked an 8:30 AM appointment for Saturday 3 weeks ago. Had to go into main store and ask employee when Vetco will be open, only to be told I must have booked “the wrong vetco” and that “they’re not open on Saturdays”. Interesting when it lets you book a Saturday appointment at this location and says open on their Google Business Profile. Thanks for the wasted Saturday morning, it’s much appreciated!
Mar 22, 2025 · Colin RuggieroMy dog was seen today for a skin issue. Dr was very thorough in looking into what was going on. Explained everything to me and they were extremely extremely nice and patient with my dog. Definitely will be using them now for his care.I joined the petco program and will now safe on office visit.
Nov 22, 2024 · Colleen DonnellyDr. Winkler and staff at Vetco in Kingston NY are amazing. They get right down on the floor with your fur babies and make them feel very comfortable. Our pups get great care when they go. Dr. Winkler and staff are very knowledgeable, and answer questions effectively. We do not hesitate to refer people there for their fur babies. We're very happy that we found a very affordable and knowledgeable vet.
Mar 04, 2024 · Kelly GibsonTook my cat here after two back to back unsuccessful visits to the animal care hospital on Morton blvd where they did testing that wasn’t needed and gave my cat antibiotics he didn’t need either for a skin condition not to mention they charged me an outrageous amount of money and my cat was no better after I brought him there in fact he was hurt and traumatized by those people at the animal hospital on Morton blvd which is why I brought him to vetco . I was referred by a friend who brings their dog to vetco . I honestly have to say that I absolutely love vetco and the veterinarian that works there who explained everything to me in detail and also told me after she went over the paperwork from the animal care hospital that they gave my fur baby the wrong kind of antibiotics for his skin condition !! The veterinarian and the tech were both very comforting to my fur baby they took his temperature in his ear which was a huge difference from the trauma he received at the animal care hospital where I watched them with my own eyes try to shove a dry thermometer up his butt! Yes they did that I couldn’t believe my eyes I even said ah hey don’t you think you should use something on there before you try to do that?? Nope they still tried anyways which also traumatized my fur baby ! Vetco was completely different in the way they treated me and my fur baby I was so happy when I left there we had a great experience . From the vet having so much information as to what might be causing my cat to lick his fur off and he was given the right medication for his skin condition! This will be where I go in the future for anything my fur baby needs . I felt so much better when I left vetco as opposed to when I left the animal care hospital they had me thinking my furbaby was gonna die!!! Thanks Vetco and Dr Winkler you are the best veterinarian I’ve ever met in my life!! For anyone that needs a veterinarian I highly recommend Dr Winkler !!!!
