My parents starting taking our animals to Valley Vets in the late 80’s, when I was a kid. We had a chihuahua become paralyzed in ‘95 or ‘96. He was only 8 or 9, but we all thought it was the end of the road for him. Dr Daly and his team operated on Nicky and not only did he walk again, he lived another 8 years.I currently take my cat (Wolfie) to them for various treatments and grooming. They’ve been very helpful with our transporting issues, as well as understanding Wolfie’s anxiety. - Kara Crawford

Services Offered

Valley Veterinary Hospital is a full-service animal hospital and primary care veterinarian clinic, offering a broad spectrum of medical, surgical, and wellness services for dogs and cats. Their commitment to high-quality care is evident in their state-of-the-art facilities and experienced team. Services commonly provided include:

  • General Wellness and Preventative Care: This foundational care includes comprehensive physical examinations, tailored vaccination programs (e.g., rabies, parvovirus), and strategic parasite prevention and control (fleas, ticks, heartworms). Regular check-ups are emphasized to ensure long-term health and early detection of issues.

  • Advanced Diagnostic Services: Equipped with in-clinic diagnostics, they offer digital radiography (X-rays) for examining body systems and performing blood work and other laboratory tests. They also utilize ultrasound for more detailed internal imaging, crucial for accurate diagnoses.

  • Surgery: Valley Veterinary Hospital features a state-of-the-art surgical suite. Their experienced veterinarians, including Dr. Daly and Dr. Strickland, are prepared for a range of surgical needs, from common spays and neuters to more challenging orthopedic procedures. They prioritize patient safety with pre-surgical blood work, pain prevention, IV fluid administration, and continuous monitoring (heart and breathing rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels) during and after surgery.

  • Dental Care: Comprehensive dental services are available to maintain oral health, prevent periodontal disease, and address any dental issues pets may experience.

  • Microchipping: Offering microchip implantation for permanent pet identification, significantly increasing the chances of reuniting lost pets with their families.

  • Grooming Services: Beyond medical care, Valley Veterinary Hospital also provides professional pet grooming services, contributing to your pet's overall hygiene and well-being.

  • Boarding Services: They offer fine dog and cat boarding services, providing a safe and comfortable environment for pets when their owners are away.

  • Hospice and End-of-Life Care: Providing compassionate support and humane options for end-of-life care, including euthanasia, to help families navigate difficult transitions.

  • USDA Health Certificates: Their veterinarians are USDA certified, allowing them to issue health certificates for pets that require them for travel or other specific purposes.

Features / Highlights

Valley Veterinary Hospital exhibits several notable features and highlights, as observed by their clientele, though experiences can vary:

  • Long-Standing Community Trust: The clinic has a long history, with clients like one whose parents started taking animals there in the "late 80s." This longevity suggests a deep-rooted presence and trusted service within the Harrisonburg community for decades.

  • Life-Saving Surgical Expertise: A powerful highlight is the account of Dr. Daly and his team successfully operating on a paralyzed chihuahua in the mid-90s, allowing him to "walk again" and live "another 8 years." This demonstrates significant surgical skill and dedication to positive patient outcomes, even in challenging cases.

  • Support for Anxious Pets and Owners: The clinic has been "very helpful with our transporting issues, as well as understanding Wolfie’s anxiety." This shows an awareness of pet behavioral needs and a willingness to accommodate them, contributing to a less stressful experience.

  • Positive Experiences for Dog Owners: Several reviews, including one from a long-term client (Craig Sales), indicate "fantastic provider of vet services across the board" for dogs, with "great recommendations for preventative care" and "clear instructions on how to administer at-home care." The "male vet who handles the dogs is great."

  • Professional and Kind Front Staff: The front staff is consistently described as "professional and kind," playing a crucial role in the overall client experience.

It is important to note that while many clients have positive experiences, particularly with dog care and long-term relationships, some specific feedback regarding cat care indicates areas for improvement in communication and handling, with concerns about feeling "rushed" and "uncomfortable focus" on certain topics without sufficient record-keeping or empathetic listening. These contrasting perspectives highlight the importance of individual experiences within a larger practice.
