VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital possesses several key features and highlights that contribute to its reputation within the Pennsylvania pet-owning community:
- Compassionate End-of-Life Care: A standout feature is their exceptionally empathetic approach during the difficult process of euthanasia and subsequent handling of ashes. Clients express deep gratitude for the staff and vet taking "their time," explaining "each step," and treating pets "as their own with the utmost respect," providing "time needed for closure" and "thoughtfulness." The beautiful urn box and cherishing paw print keepsake are particularly touching.
- Professional and Caring Staff: Reviews consistently mention the caring nature of the staff and vets. One client noted "great service" on a prior visit, emphasizing the quality of interaction.
- Effective Medication Management: For routine prescribed medications, such as Carprofen, the medication's effectiveness in quickly returning a dog's energy level is highlighted, demonstrating the appropriate prescription and quality of the drug provided (though pricing is a concern for one reviewer).
- Responsive for Scheduled Needs: The ability to pick up prescriptions, as mentioned by a client, indicates efficient handling of routine requests.
- Comprehensive Service Offerings: As a VCA hospital, they provide a broad array of services from preventative care to complex diagnostics and surgery, making them a versatile option for most pet health needs.
- Access to VCA Network Benefits: Being part of the larger VCA Animal Hospitals network means access to a broad base of veterinary knowledge, protocols, and potential for integrated care with specialists if needed. This also includes online tools like myVCA live chat and potentially wellness plans.
A recurring concern raised by one customer review pertains to the pricing of certain commonly prescribed medications. This client noted a significant discrepancy between the clinic's price for Carprofen and prices available through online pharmacies like Chewy or other pet supply stores, even for a commonly prescribed generic. This suggests that while the quality of care and compassion are highly valued, cost-conscious pet owners may wish to inquire about medication pricing and explore options for fulfilling prescriptions through external pharmacies with a valid veterinarian's signature. This transparency is important for managing overall pet care expenses.

VCA Bakerstown Animal Hospital Reviews
I had great service on my last appointment with my dog and actually wrote a very nice review. What I’m reviewing today though is a concern about some medication I received for my dog .My dog is being treated for a tick borne illness and needed more Carprofen, which is generic for Rimadyl.I sent my son-in-law to pick it up and only received four 100 mg tablets to be broken in half for eight days.Immediately his energy level returned after an hour, and my dog was bounding around playing with toys. It works wonderfully for him! However, the cost was really disturbing!$50 for 4 tablets!I had a dog years ago on this medication for joint issues and I never remembered paying that much so I started to look it up and honestly you can get this stuff on Chewy for$.68 a table.I don’t understand why the over- inflated price for something that is quite commonly prescribed. I’ve read that PetSmart has it cheaper too!…all this stuff of course requires a vets signature, or I would order it myself. My dog does so well on it!It’s already a very expensive practice, so I’m a little put off by the price gouging of this very common medicine.I guess I’m gonna have to take my dog somewhere else because he’s not getting any younger and if he needs this again I don’t feel like paying over $12 bucks a pill.
Dec 24, 2024 · T MillerI am so grateful at how I was treated during a hard time of making the decision to put my Sassy down, and then again receiving her ashes. The staff and vet took their time with me, explaining each step, while treating my Sassy as their own with the utmost respect. Giving me the time needed for closure, and exiting on my time. I appreciated this, that words cannot express my gratitude. When I brought the ashes home I was speechless again with the beautiful urn box and the most of cherishing keepsake of my Sassy’s paw print.Thank you from the bottom of my heart and my family’s appreciation of the thoughtfulness!!
Feb 08, 2022 · Annette VivianThey were so caring, compassionate, flexible, helpful, mindful & by far the best vet I’ve ever been to by miles. They took my dog with ten minutes left on the day ( a patient they haven’t had before) in a major time of need, we’re so incredibly professional and would recommend 100x over.
Dec 10, 2024 · Dan LeighlitnerI took my geriatric (16 yr old feline) girl with congestion, sneezing, runny eyes, seeping ears, sleeping a lot, ect. We had dr. Reese and he was very informative, spent time with us. He gave her an antibiotic shot that and also cleaned her up and did her nails. We are home now, me sitting on the back porch and she is out roaming the yard. I feel so good about taking her.Maybe just a little pricey, but it's well worth it for the one you love. Kimba, my 'little white lion' has been through so much (ears), and she always bounces back like champ!
Jun 09, 2020 · Jodi L. MorettiHave a less than pleasant experience today at this vet . My college age daughter brought in her rescue with all of his papers and vaccinations from a visit that he had three months ago and another certified veterinarian out of state. They charged my daughter $350 for her dogs rash. They tried to justify all of the charges, exams, injections, when they probably should’ve just started with some appointment first. I feel like they price gouged a college student.
