Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital aims to provide a broad spectrum of veterinary services, moving beyond just vaccinations to offer more comprehensive care for pets. While specific service availability can vary and it's always best to confirm directly with the hospital, typical offerings at a "Total Care" facility generally include:
- Wellness Exams and Preventative Care: This is the foundation of pet health, including routine check-ups, physical examinations, and tailored vaccination schedules to protect against common diseases. Preventative care also encompasses advice on nutrition, exercise, and behavior.
- Vaccinations: Essential for preventing a wide range of infectious diseases in both dogs and cats, tailored to your pet's lifestyle and risk factors.
- Diagnostic Services: This often includes in-house laboratory testing (blood work, urinalysis, fecal exams), digital radiography (X-rays), and potentially ultrasound capabilities to help diagnose illnesses and injuries efficiently.
- Medical Consultations and Treatment: For pets experiencing symptoms of illness, injuries, or chronic conditions, the hospital provides consultations, diagnosis, and treatment plans, which may include medication management or therapeutic interventions.
- Surgical Procedures: Common surgical services may include routine spaying and neutering, as well as minor soft tissue surgeries. For more complex surgical needs, referrals to specialty surgeons might be provided.

- Handicap Accessibility: The hospital is "Handicap accessible with handicap parking in front of the store," demonstrating a commitment to serving all members of the community and ensuring ease of access for individuals with mobility challenges.
- Friendly and Polite Staff (Front Desk - Mixed Reviews): While one review praises the "nice, friendly, polite and helpful" staff, another highlights "very rude and accusatory" front desk behavior and "disrespectful attitude." This indicates variability in customer service experiences, which is important for potential clients to consider.
- Presence of Other Pet-Related Offerings: Being located in what appears to be a broader pet retail environment (likely a Petco store) means that visitors might also find other pet-related items for sale, such as "Guinea pigs, ferrets, turtles, and fish," adding a degree of convenience for comprehensive pet needs.
- One Free Exam Offer (Potential): One customer mentioned receiving "one free exam," suggesting that the clinic may occasionally run promotional offers that could be beneficial for new clients seeking to try their services.
It is important to note that while some aspects are highlighted positively, some customer feedback indicates significant concerns regarding communication, organization, and the perceived thoroughness of examinations, as detailed in the negative review. Potential clients should weigh these varied experiences when making their decision.

For pet owners in the Pennsylvania region, particularly within Media and its surrounding communities, Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital presents itself as an accessible option for veterinary services. Its suitability for locals can be evaluated by weighing its advantages against areas noted for improvement by some customers.
The convenient location on West Baltimore Pike, a major thoroughfare, makes it easily reachable for residents across Delaware County. The noted handicap accessibility, including parking directly in front, is a significant plus, ensuring that the facility is welcoming to all pet owners, regardless of mobility needs. The clean and well-lit environment also contributes to a more pleasant experience for both pets and their guardians during what can often be stressful visits. For those who appreciate combining errands, the likely co-location with a Petco store means that you can often take care of veterinary needs and pick up pet supplies in a single trip, offering a practical convenience for busy local households. The affordability factor, as noted by one satisfied customer, could also be a compelling reason for many to choose Vetco Total Care for routine or preventative care, especially if managing a budget.
However, it is crucial for local users to consider the mixed reviews regarding customer service and operational efficiency. While some have experienced friendly and helpful staff, others have reported significant frustrations with communication, perceived rudeness at the front desk, rushed examinations, and follow-up on lab results and prescriptions. These aspects are critical to a positive healthcare experience, and consistency in these areas is often highly valued by pet owners. For example, the detailed account of a pet parent driving 40 minutes only to find out a pick-up was impossible due to a lack of communication highlights an area where the clinic might fall short for some individuals who prioritize seamless and reliable service.
In conclusion, Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital in Media, PA, offers the convenience of location, potential affordability, and a clean environment for a range of veterinary services. For locals prioritizing accessibility and basic preventative care, and who are willing to navigate potential inconsistencies in communication or service delivery, it could be a viable option. As with any healthcare provider, prospective clients are encouraged to consider their specific needs and perhaps even reach out directly with questions before their first visit to ensure it aligns with their expectations for the care of their beloved pets.

Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital Reviews

Nov 21, 2024 · Ronald LottExtremely disappoint experience - DON’T COME.1. I didn’t get their confirmation call but did reply to the text message to confirm. When I arrived, the front desk staff was very rude and accusatory, blaming me for not answering the phone and saying they could give my appointment to someone else.2. I mentioned I was there for an annual exam and also wanted to request a stool test. The front desk got visibly irritated and told me I should’ve booked a sick appointment, even though my dog had no symptoms. I don’t understand why asking for a stool test during an annual exam is such an issue.3. The annual exam itself was incredibly rushed. The vet spent less than 2 minutes with my dog. Literally TWO minutes.4. No one notified me when the lab test result came out. I had to call twice to follow up. This is unacceptable for any medical provider.5. The vet texted me saying I could come in on Thursday to pick up prescription. I confirmed via text and drove 40 minutes, only to be told upon arrival that the vet has called out and I need to come back another day. No one contacted me with this update. Is there really only one vet working at the entire clinic? If that person called out, the clinic just stop functioning? This level of disorganization, disrespectful attitude, and lack of communication is unacceptable. DON’T COME!!
May 22, 2025 · Yufei LuVery disappointed. We adopted a kitten and the shelter provided a certificate for a free vet visit with a list of vets that would accept it. Nowhere on this certificate did it state that it would only be accepted if you were a completely new customer to the clinic. We were actually encouraged by the shelter to go here as our other cats are set up at this location. The vet gave the price breakdown and said that the receptionist would waive the exam fee at checkout since we had the certificate, but that did not happen and we were charged full price after being told that we weren’t eligible for the waiver as our other cats have gone to the clinic before. I have warned the shelter so that they hopefully let future adopters know or remove the Vetco locations entirely off of its list of vets for the exam waiver within 30 days. I have vital care for my other two cats and would have gotten it for the kitten before the appointment if I knew. But now I’m out an extra $80 instead of it being built into the vital care plan. Not once before check out were we told that the fee would not be waived.
May 30, 2025 · Dawn .KroptavichThius place has always been kind to our pets.Dr Herring is really professional and friendly. He had no problem explaining to my daughter how to brush the teeth of her dog in a way she could understand. The staff at this Vetco is very helpful. The assistant Devin is one of the staff that helped us. Another friendly person who explained what was being done and explained all the costs clearly to me. My family will continue to bring our pets here.
