I came to see what can be done about my service dog's fractured tooth. They are grossly overpriced...the surgery would have cost between $3800-$4300. They do not consider that this is my service dog, and that I am an unemployed Veteran living on a limited budget. I walked away from them when a trusted friend told me that this establishment is charging too much for their services. Overall, I am incredibly disappointed. They left me thinking that all they are concerned about is how much money they can drain from a person in the name of your pet or in my case, my service animal. Also, for being a veterinary service, I was shocked at the lack of knowledge they had about service dogs. There is always so much to learn. If you are not worried about money, then this is the place for you, but for the rest of us...keep looking. You may have to drive a little further to work with a veterinarian who has better prices, or a veterinary college will offer services as their students need the real world experience. - Carmen Lozano

Veterinary Dental Specialties and Oral Surgery Introduce

For pet owners in Ontario, California, and the broader Inland Empire, finding specialized care for complex veterinary issues can be a challenge. While most general practitioners can handle routine dental cleanings, certain conditions—such as fractured teeth, advanced periodontal disease, or oral tumors—require the expertise of a veterinary dental specialist. Veterinary Dental Specialties and Oral Surgery, located at 2409 S Vineyard Ave M, Ontario, CA 91761, USA, is a practice dedicated to this very specific and crucial area of animal health. They serve as a referral center, collaborating with your primary care veterinarian to provide advanced diagnostics and surgical solutions for your pet’s oral health needs.

The core mission of a specialized dental practice is to offer a level of expertise and technology that is not typically found in a general veterinary clinic. A veterinary dentist has undergone extensive, post-graduate training, including a residency, to become a board-certified specialist. This allows them to perform complex procedures and offer treatment options that can save teeth, alleviate pain, and improve a pet's overall quality of life. The clinic’s focus on advanced dentistry and oral surgery means they are equipped to handle a wide range of oral health issues, aiming to provide definitive care and the best possible outcomes for your furry family members.

The clinic's location at 2409 S Vineyard Ave in Ontario makes it a central and accessible destination for pet owners in the region whose animals have been referred for specialized dental care. The clinic’s role as a specialty center means that pet owners often travel to them from a wide radius to seek their expert services.

While public information on specific accessibility features is not provided, specialty clinics generally strive to be accommodating. However, as it is a specific medical facility, it is always recommended to call ahead to inquire about any specific needs you or your pet may have, such as wheelchair access or other amenities. Their commitment is to provide the best possible care for their patients, which includes ensuring a smooth and stress-free visit.

Veterinary Dental Specialties and Oral Surgery offers a profound range of advanced dental services that go beyond what a typical general practitioner provides.

  • Periodontics: Treating diseases of the gums and supporting structures of the teeth to prevent tooth loss.

  • Endodontics: Including root canal therapy to save fractured or infected teeth, as well as vital pulp therapy.

  • Oral Surgery: Performing complex extractions, treating oral tumors, and repairing jaw fractures and cleft palates.

  • Prosthodontics: Offering tooth restorations with fillings and crowns to restore function to damaged teeth, often for service animals or working dogs.

  • Orthodontics: Correcting improper bites (malocclusion) to ensure a pet's mouth is comfortable and pain-free.

  • Anesthesiology and Pain Management: The clinic takes anesthesia and patient comfort very seriously, with individualized protocols and advanced monitoring.

The standout highlight of this clinic is, without a doubt, its profound knowledge and specialized expertise. As one customer noted after a visit for their dogs, "The dentist had profound knowledge of canine teeth as human dentists would know about human teeth." This comment underscores the high level of specialization that pet owners can expect. This is not a general vet doing a cleaning; this is a team of professionals dedicated to the intricacies of oral and maxillofacial health in animals. For pets with significant dental issues, this depth of knowledge is invaluable and can lead to outcomes that a general practitioner might not be able to achieve. The clinic is equipped to handle complex cases and, as mentioned by one reviewer, can perform advanced procedures like root canals and extractions.

However, it is crucial to address the feedback regarding pricing and communication. A review from a veteran highlighted a significant concern, stating that the clinic is "grossly overpriced" and that they "do not consider that this is my service dog, and that I am an unemployed Veteran living on a limited budget." This feedback, along with a comment about feeling as though they were "paying for guesswork," points to a vital aspect of specialty care: the cost. Specialized procedures, advanced equipment, and the time of a board-certified professional come at a higher price than general practice care. For pet owners, especially those on a fixed income, it is essential to be proactive about discussing costs and to ask for a detailed estimate before any procedure is performed. While the clinic’s expertise is a major highlight, the financial component is a significant consideration.

  • Specialized Expertise: Their team has profound knowledge in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery, offering advanced care beyond routine services.

  • Advanced Procedures: They are equipped to perform complex treatments like root canals and oral surgery, which can save a pet's tooth and quality of life.

  • Holistic Approach: The clinic considers the entire patient, including anesthesia protocols and pain management, to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.

For residents in Ontario, CA, facing a significant dental issue with their pet, choosing Veterinary Dental Specialties and Oral Surgery is a decision to make with informed consideration. The clinic's specialized knowledge is its most valuable asset, offering solutions for problems that cannot be solved at a general vet. The eye-opening experience one customer had, realizing the depth of knowledge a veterinary dentist has, is a powerful endorsement of their technical skill. However, the feedback on pricing should serve as a clear call to action: prospective clients must be prepared to have a frank and detailed conversation about costs and the treatment plan before committing. For those who are not constrained by a limited budget, or who have pet insurance that covers specialty care, this clinic represents a top-tier option for saving a pet from dental pain and preserving their oral health. It is a place to go for serious and complex dental needs, but it requires a proactive and informed approach from the pet owner to ensure a positive and transparent experience.
