★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- Our pup had what we think was a bee sting and she was in great distress. We called Horizon and they said there was about a 6 hour wait. Only about 1/4 mile away VMSG saw us right away. They were cheerful, professional and reasonable in rates. We were completely pleased and our dog is back to her usual self. Thanks. - If you are looking for an Oncologist, I wouldn’t recommend to come here. We were disappointed, the oncologist department is not professional. They didn’t read the basic medical records about my dog, the visit was completely a waste of money and time. Dr Repoll didn’t offer any insight. They are friendly but that’s not why we went there for. Please you need to be more professional. We were called for a recheck which we don’t know what you are trying to offer. People are not stupid, please make sure you do care instead of trying to add more patient on your list. Surgery department was great and Dr Simpson was awesome April 24 · Miss J
- We recently had a horrible experience with Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group (“VMSG”) in Ventura. We had previously been there, and had good experiences, but it appears the facility has gone downhill since then.We arrived at 5:00 pm. Our dog was coughing and vomiting (including in VMSG’s waiting room). Out of concern for kennel cough, we were asked to wait outside on plastic chairs. Awhile later, a technician came out and took a history of what was going on with our dog.Shortly after our dog’s history was taken, another staffer came outside to tell us that it would be 8:00 or later for the dog to be seen. This was the case even though there were very few (if any) patients in the VMSG waiting room at the time. Obviously, our dog’s hacking and vomiting were not a priority for the VMSG team. We asked if we could leave, go get dinner, and come back at 8:00, and were told that was not allowed, and that we would lose our place in line. So, we ordered a GrubHub delivery and ate dinner in the car.8:00 rolled around, and I went back inside to ask if there was an update on when we could be seen. The staffer, in a somewhat snarky tone, reminded me that we were told that the dog would be seen at 8:00 or later, and that the night shift doctor had just arrived and was doing rounds. I went back to our car and waited.I went back at about 8:30, and was told by the same staffer that the doctor was dealing with a "gnarly" (her word) leg fracture, with the animal under sedation, and they didn't know when our dog would be seen. I again went back to the car.At about 8:45, the lights went out. Apparently VMSG does not have a back-up generator. Fortunately, the lights came back on in about five minutes. After 9:00 pm (when we had been waiting for more than four hours), I received a call from the staffer on duty. She informed me that they still didn't know when our dog would be seen due to the fact he was "stable." She then told me that she had spoken with the Horizon veterinary facility down the street and they could see our dog in one or two hours. I called Horizon, and they told me that stable patients would be seen in five or six hours! (That's a far cry from the one to two hours quoted by the VMSG staffer.)At that point we gave up. Our sick dog would have to wait until morning when we could hopefully find a caring facility to treat him (our primary care vet did not have any near-term appointments). Fortunately, we were able to find a local veterinary hospital that took our dog in at 8:00 a.m. the next morning, and treated him with care and compassion.Simply put, our treatment at VMSG was completely unacceptable. The message we received was, "we don't give a “crap” about you or your dog, and we'll get around to you when we feel like it." In contrast, when I called Horizon, the woman on the phone was very helpful, apologized for what would have been a long wait, and even texted me a list of hospitals and urgent care clinics that might be available to help. It felt to us that all the VMSG staffer wanted to do was seemingly get us to leave. Other than giving us inaccurate information about Horizon's waiting time, the staffer did nothing to assist us. And, to add insult to injury, when I emailed VMSG’s Manager about our lousy experience, she failed to give us a call or even respond to the email. As pet parents, we have options for veterinary emergency services in and around Ventura County. Horizon in Ventura and Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center in Thousand Oaks are two such facilities. Conejo Valley Animal Hospital, also in Thousand Oaks, has urgent care facilities between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. My point is that there are several other veterinary emergency and urgent care facilities in Ventura County and, in my opinion, you and your furry family members would be well-served to choose one of them instead of Veterinary Medical and Surgical Group (“VMSG”) in Ventura. - Kind, compassionate, great communication. Kept us up to date with our fur baby’s condition along with lab and radiology results. Promptly returned phone calls. Took a great deal of time to review diagnosis, treatment plan, and future needs for our pet. Our family felt that we were listened to and supported. Deepest thanks to Dr Mike Higgins (neurology) and the great staff of VSMG. May 22 · Claudia Aquino
- ‘24 Hour’ means not open at 3:00 am when our new kitten had a severe burst abscess. No one at the facility. Sign saying emergency service not available. Why bother advertising 24 hours!I wasted 30 min driving in, then another 30 up to Thousand Oaks to a real 24 hours pet hospital.Stop false advertising, you’re just pissing people off, wasting precious time during an emergency and not doing yourself any favors on the reviews.
