Pets 'n' Things Introduce
For pet owners throughout Michigan, particularly in the Saline area, finding a local pet store that aligns with their values and offers the right products and support is paramount. Pets 'n' Things, situated in Saline, MI, presents itself as a neighborhood option for various pet needs. This establishment aims to provide a range of pets and supplies, catering to the diverse interests of local animal lovers. However, like many businesses, customer experiences can vary, reflecting different perspectives on policies and interactions.
Pets 'n' Things has been a fixture in the Saline community since 1983, with current owners John and Beth Lebert taking over in 1993, highlighting its long-standing presence and local roots. They position themselves as offering "locally bred pets and supplies," including a selection of "sugar gliders and lizards to hand-fed conures and more," along with "the finest pet foods, and a full line of supplies, including thousands of USA and Michigan-made products." This emphasis on locally sourced pets and products can be a draw for Michigan residents who prefer to support local businesses and ensure the provenance of their pets.
Customer experiences at Pets 'n' Things, however, demonstrate a mixed bag. One reviewer lauded their experience with acquiring a pet, stating, "We purchased our fur ever friend from you guys Friday... your staff that night were amazing and so very helpful you will forever be our pet store even though it’s a 45 minute drive because we felt like we were treated like family. Their knowledge and professionalism speak volumes with all of our purchases thank you so much. I just held our new pet for the first time and his temperament and friendliness were apparent right from the get go. So in love." This glowing account highlights positive interactions with knowledgeable and professional staff, leading to a successful pet acquisition and a feeling of being "treated like family," even for customers traveling a significant distance.
Conversely, another customer shared a deeply frustrating experience regarding an attempted rabbit adoption: "I recently visited Pets and things with the intention of adopting a rabbit... Despite this, I was refused the adoption/sale with no clear reason... Every excuse they gave; I have met with a rebuttal." This individual felt "frustrated and disrespected" due to what they perceived as "arbitrary and frankly discriminatory" reasons for denial, despite meeting listed requirements and providing proof of appropriate habitat. This review points to potential inconsistencies in policy application or communication that can lead to significant customer dissatisfaction.
These contrasting reviews underscore the importance of clear communication and consistent application of policies in a pet store setting, especially when dealing with the sensitive process of pet adoption or sale. For Michigan locals considering Pets 'n' Things, these insights offer a nuanced perspective, suggesting that while many have highly positive experiences, others may encounter challenges with specific transactions or policies.

Pets 'n' Things Reviews
I normally don’t leave reviews, but I feel it’s important to share my experience.I recently visited Pets and things with the intention of adopting a rabbit. I had done my research, came prepared, and met all the listed requirements: appropriate habitat, food, etc. (I currently have a rabbit and was looking to find her a companion). I already have a habitat set up in which my bunny gets free roam in a huge area with plenty of space. Despite this, I was refused the adoption/sale with no clear reason. (Every excuse they gave; I have met with a rebuttal). They ask if I have a cage for the new rabbit that will be big enough for her and I explained that I have an extra large dog cage that I used for my rabbit before. They wanted pictures and measurements. I show them several pictures of the cage with my rabbit in there AND with my dogs beside it to give them an estimate of how big the cage was.The owner then made an excuse that the cage was not efficient enough for my rabbit because of the gaps in the cage and they stated that the rabbit foot would get stuck on the cage bar underneath. That makes no sense since there is a plastic cover on the ground.I also stated that I have a 7 foot rabbit hutch that I purchased (and I had proof of purchase) that I can use. I showed them the picture of my rabbit in the hutch and a picture of the measurements from the description of the item when I first purchased it and the lady behind the counter, said, that the metal wires was galvanized, and that if the rabbit pee on it that is harmful to the rabbit. She did not know if the metal wire was galvanized or not she just assumed it was. When I asked for an explanation, I was met with vague responses and shifting excuses. Despite never having asked me any meaningful questions about my experience or plans for the rabbit. It felt arbitrary and frankly discriminatory. If there are legitimate concerns, I believe customers deserve transparency—especially when we’re trying to give an animal a safe, loving home. This experience was deeply disappointing. I left feeling frustrated and disrespected—not because I didn’t get what I wanted, but because I wasn’t treated fairly or honestly.I hope the store re-evaluates how it handles customers and communicates policies going forward. Until then, I’ll be taking my business elsewhere—and encouraging fellow animal lovers to do the same.

Jul 02, 2025 · Cindy B MillerWe came in today to buy a chinchilla. Cathy and Dylan were extremely helpful. We had already researched chinchillas and knew we were ready to add one to our family. The two of them answered all of our questions and we had a lot of them. The animals in this store are very well taken care of. They were very careful when introducing us to the chinchillas. Now we have our little fluffy friend home with us and we cannot thank this wonderful store with an amazing staff enough.
Apr 08, 2024 · Charles MoonTremendous experience every time I've come in. If they don't have someone handy that is knowledgeable about your pet, they'll refer you to another staff member or outside source. It's so nice having a local pet store. It's always fun to stop in and say hi to the animals. We were delighted to talk to the owner today about the care of a Corn Snake we were considering in the future. While I was holding a ball python, I started to get very lightheaded and dizzy and straight up fell down. The owner was very accomodating of the incident, despite my embarrassment.Fast forward a couple weeks (and after some handling of smaller snakes), we did decide to take home a baby corn. We always have an endless stream of questions, but these folks have always honored our curiosity. It is a delight to support this spot.
