Nestled on Gratiot Avenue, this distinctive establishment has captivated generations of Michigan residents, offering a memorable shopping experience that stands apart from typical retail chains. If you're a local in the Metro Detroit area looking for an exotic pet, particularly a reptile, or perhaps a one-of-a-kind gift with a "hippie" vibe, The Road Show is a place you'll want to explore.
What truly sets The Road Show apart for Michigan users is its eclectic nature. Unlike conventional pet stores, it combines the world of exotic animals with a selection of counter-culture and unique merchandise. This blend creates an atmosphere that long-time customers describe as having "the same charm" and a "magical land" feel, reminiscent of its origins and appeal for over two decades. It's a place where you might come in for reptile supplies and leave with a piece of tie-dye clothing, incense, or a fascinating crystal.
Historically, The Road Show has been particularly known for its focus on reptiles. Many customers recall growing up visiting the store for its impressive collection and the high level of care provided to these unique animals. This specialization offers a distinct advantage for Michigan residents who are passionate about reptiles, as it often means a wider variety of species and more specialized knowledge compared to general pet stores. For those seeking specific reptile breeds or expert advice on their care, The Road Show has traditionally been a go-to destination.
Beyond the live animals, the store’s inventory of "hippie-related" items, including tie-dye, incense, crystals, jewelry, glassware, and art, contributes significantly to its unique identity. This diverse product offering ensures that there's always something new and interesting to discover, making each visit an adventure. It appeals to a broad range of Michigan shoppers, from dedicated reptile enthusiasts to those looking for unique gifts or a touch of nostalgic counter-culture flair.
The long-standing presence of The Road Show in the Roseville community is a testament to its enduring appeal. Many customers have fond memories of visiting the store for years, often since childhood, highlighting its role as a beloved local landmark. This kind of generational connection fosters a strong sense of community and loyalty among its patrons, distinguishing it from newer, less personalized retail experiences. For Michiganders who value supporting local, independent businesses with a rich history, The Road Show represents a cherished institution.
While some recent customer feedback indicates concerns about the current standard of reptile care, reflecting potential changes in staff or management, the overall sentiment still acknowledges the store's unique charm, friendly staff, and wide variety of non-pet merchandise. It's important for potential visitors to consider recent reviews alongside the historical reputation when making a decision about live animal purchases, while still appreciating the store for its distinct and varied general offerings.

The Road Show Reviews
I have been coming to this store since I was about 7 years old and im 23 now. One thing this store was different from local animal shops on was the care they took of their reptiles. Over the last year, this care they once provided has drastically changed for the worse. I never in my life have seen the animals here live in this condition before. I know that people that used to run the reptile department have left but that does not mean that just filling a position is good for the animals. It makes me sad to see how the standards have been lowered.
Apr 06, 2025 · Alyssa SchantaThis store has been around longer than I've been alive, according to my parents it still has the same charm. If you like tie dye, incense, crystals, jewelry, glassware, exotic pets, art, or anything else hippie related, come here and support a local business! The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable
Jun 21, 2025 · AveryA one stop shop. I get many candles, incense, crystals and body jewelry here. We got a sulcata tortoise here a few years ago and I'm quite happy to see they have expanded the space for the store sulcatas recently!
Mar 28, 2025 · Jessica TrobaughMy son and I have been going there for a few years now. I have never seen any animals dead. Staff has always been friendly. Always has Made in Detroit tshirts in stock. Tons of fun stuff to look at. A rare place these days.
