Greenwood Pets & Plants Reviews
I purchased this tarantula today at Greenwood, the older man who worked there was incredibly rude. I made eye contact with him while looking at the tarantulas and got his attention, letting him know I had called earlier about buying a tarantula. He made a face and gesture of annoyance saying "okay, and?". I wasn't rude to him, I was trying to get assistance since I wasn't sure who I talked to on the phone previously. It was very off putting. The young man working came to take over to help me and I finished my purchase.Besides the minor rude interaction, this store is not caring for its tarantulas properly. I know most pet stores don't house them correctly but at least they are provided a water dish and hide at places like petco and pet smart. Greenwood had the t. albopilosus I purchased in an enclosure meant for arboreals with a corkbark propped up in a way for, again, an arboreal tarantula to use as a hide, when this species is terrestrial. There was also no wayer dish present and the enclosure was quite dry so there was no water to any degree.I was put off by the husbandry issues but again, it isn't uncommon for pet stores. What I can't let go though is full on neglect of the animal. Once I got the juvenile home I was able to see its condition better. The abdomen is far too small, this spider is emaciated and starving. The abdomen sides are sunken in from long term dehydration due to having no access to water or proper food to retain some from their prey! It is also missing a spinneret, likely from a bad molt (which is often out of control of a store or person but what leads up to a molt going bad can often be linked to husbandry and care issues since they need proper hydration to molt properly without a limb or appendage getting stuck and with how dehydrated this one is I am guessing that is the case). Please take care of your animals better, it may "just be a spider" but they are fascinating misunderstood creatures. They can't love you like a cat or dog but that doesn't mean they don't deserve the best care possible.Thankfully I have this little one in a new proper enclosure with a full water dish and it is happily eating a prekilled superworm. I'm hoping it improves over the next few days/week and that I didn't get it too late.Photos: showing the sunken in and tiny abdomen, single spinneret, and the tarantula itselffor reference, ideally a tarantulas abdomen should be equal to or slightly larger in width than its carapaceEdit: I have added photos to show how this lil guy improved over the past 9 days! Doing very well also props to the owner for owning up to and wanting to improve their animal welfare, I recommend they take notes from credible keepers such as Richard from The Tarantula Collective and Tom from Tom's Big Spiders who have updated and helpful care guides and advice!!
Apr 16, 2025 · Taylor LamThis is the coolest pet store! We came in for the first time this weekend. Upon walking in, my reptile-loving child was handed a snake by an employee. She loved getting to hold that snake! Large variety of reptiles and fish. And all of the employees were super nice! I will definitely be coming back to shop here.
Jan 07, 2025 · AshThe staff is sp helpful. I brought my 2 year old niece up there to see the animals, a gentleman, i can't recall his name, took his time out and showed her around and showed her the snakes. She absolutely loved it.
Jan 22, 2025 · NicoleYesterday my girlfriends mom took me and her family here and I can say confidently that I’ve never been to a pet store quite like this one, Tom Brady the big cat is one of the coolest dudes I’ve ever met, they had a massive hawk out I didn’t get a picture of, their ferrets gave me some hello bites I’ve never gotten at any other pet store, wide assortment of exotic fish and reptiles, from frogs and tiny pea puffers,to massive plecos, synodontis and gars, when I arrived their rodent collection was very lacking, only having a gerbil, lots of rats and a super cute hedgehog, but I hear they regularly have super cute bunnies and tiny baby guinea pigs so I was disappointed I didn’t see those, I ended up purchasing a 1.99 pack of duckweed that covered my entire 20 gallon long tank, it was more of an experience than anything, I absolutely loved it, even the pond of dead gold fish all the way in the back, very cutesy. Greenwood thank you for providing an incredible store, my family truly loved our time, the kids and even the adults were pulling me in every direction to come see some cool thing you had as it was my first time.
Apr 14, 2025 · dylan siladkeI went to Greenwood yesterday to purchase some African Cichlids. A young man who's name I think was Alex. This young man did not know the difference between a Kenyi and a Frontosa. He also tried to charge me 19.99 for a fish that was not any bigger than the tip of my finger. I told the young man that the fish I bought was not a Frontosa. After going back and forth with him, I finally told him that I didn't want anything anymore, and went right up the street to Stingray Bay Pet Store. I bought the exact same fish for 3.98. I went back to Greenwood to show him what I had purchased from Stingray. He got very upset with me and was extremely rude. He still insisted that I was wrong. As I was walking out of the store, he told me not come back to Greenwood. So sad that this place has workers who are not knowledgeable about fish. He needs more training and definitely needs understand customer service and his attitude.Next time I go back I'm taking pictures. Definitely over priced and a rip off.
