I don't even know where to begin ... Dr. Martha Lindsay is kind, compassionate and I can't thank her and her staff enough for all they did for my dog, Kota. We started seeing Dr. Lindsay a few years back when we struggled with Kota's liver values. Kota was a dog who didn't medicated easily, and surgery was not something we wanted to put her through. She bounced back through nutritional response (changing her eating and cooking for her made a huge difference!) and then homeopathy over the past few years. I do believe we got an extra few amazing years with Kota thanks to Dr Lindsay. We recently had to say goodbye to Kota - the hardest decision a pet parent ever has to make. But I know we did our best! I highly recommend Alternative Vet Services for your pets. They truly care. - Darlene Woodward (Pet Photographer)

Alternative Veterinary Services LLC Introduce

For pet owners throughout Massachusetts, particularly those in North Andover and the surrounding communities, who are seeking a deeper, more holistic approach to their beloved animal companions' health, Alternative Veterinary Services LLC stands as a distinguished consulting practice. This unique establishment, led by Dr. Martha Lindsay and Dr. David Lindsay, integrates extensive conventional veterinary experience with specialized expertise in alternative and complementary therapies. It's a beacon for those looking beyond standard treatments to address chronic conditions, enhance vitality, and promote overall wellness for their pets right here in our local area.

Alternative Veterinary Services LLC was founded on the recognition that conventional medicine sometimes has limitations in addressing recurring or complex health issues. Dr. Martha Lindsay, with a DVM from Michigan State University in 1979 and a masters in 1980, spent 21 years in conventional small animal, avian, and exotic practice before pursuing certifications in Veterinary Homeopathy (CVH) and Advanced Clinical Training in Nutrition Response Testing. She further honed her skills in Whole Health Nutrition Education and behavior medicine. Similarly, Dr. David Lindsay, also a DVM from Michigan State in 1979, practiced conventional medicine for 20 years before becoming certified in veterinary acupuncture in 1993, and later incorporating Chinese Herbal Medicine and Nutrition Response Testing into his primary treatment modalities. This profound combined expertise allows them to delve into the root causes of health imbalances, providing tailored solutions that work with the body's natural healing capabilities.

The philosophy at Alternative Veterinary Services LLC is centered on treating the whole animal, considering not just symptoms but also underlying susceptibilities, diet, environment, and individual constitution. For Massachusetts residents, this means access to veterinarians who offer a different perspective, empowering pet owners with knowledge and tools to proactively manage their pets' health. Their commitment to exploring various modalities, from nutritional changes to subtle energetic therapies, makes them an invaluable resource for achieving lasting well-being and a better quality of life for pets who may have exhausted conventional options or whose owners simply prefer a more natural path to healing.

Alternative Veterinary Services LLC is conveniently located at 9 Hodges St, North Andover, MA 01845, USA. This easily accessible address makes it a practical destination for pet owners across North Andover and the wider communities of Essex County and beyond. Situated on Hodges Street, the clinic is straightforward to find, simplifying commutes for those seeking specialized holistic veterinary consultations. Its location within North Andover ensures that local residents can access expert integrative services for their pets without the need for extensive travel. The office operates Monday through Friday by appointment, from 8 AM to 5 PM on Monday-Thursday, and 8 AM to 12 PM on Friday, providing structured accessibility. While specific details on parking are not explicitly provided, locations in established neighborhoods typically offer convenient access, contributing to a smoother experience for pets who may be experiencing chronic conditions or general discomfort, or for owners bringing pets who are sensitive to new environments.

Alternative Veterinary Services LLC offers a specialized array of holistic and alternative veterinary consulting services, focusing on identifying and addressing the root causes of health issues rather than just managing symptoms. Their key services include:

  • Nutrition Response Testing℠: A non-invasive system used to analyze the body for underlying causes of ill health by assessing energetic reflexes. This helps identify stressors such as food sensitivities, pathogens, chemicals, heavy metals, and more, leading to highly individualized nutritional programs and whole food supplement recommendations. The clinic uses an indirect testing method where a human assistant holds contact with the pet.
  • Veterinary Homeopathy: A natural and gentle system of healing based on the principle of "like cures like," where highly diluted substances stimulate the body's self-healing mechanisms to restore balance and alleviate symptoms. Dr. Martha Lindsay is Certified by the Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy (CVH).
  • Veterinary Acupuncture: The stimulation of specific points on the body to elicit desired physiological effects, used for pain management, chronic conditions, and to improve overall well-being. Dr. David Lindsay has practiced acupuncture since 1991 and is certified by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS).
  • Chinese Herbal Medicine: The use of natural herbal formulations, often in conjunction with acupuncture, to treat a variety of conditions, based on traditional Chinese veterinary principles.
  • Dietary and Nutritional Consulting: Comprehensive guidance on appropriate diets, including cooking for pets and selecting optimal nutritional support to strengthen the body and support healing processes.
  • Behavioral Medicine Consultation: Dr. Martha Lindsay brings experience in addressing behavioral concerns, offering insights and strategies for improving pet behavior and overall well-being.
  • Holistic Approach to Chronic Conditions: Specialization in helping pets with recurring conditions like liver issues, skin problems, and chronic pain, seeking to resolve the underlying imbalances.
  • Educational Seminars: The clinic offers seminars (e.g., "Drain the Pain!", "Ditch the Itch!", "Stomach or Abdomen Upset? What a relief you can give!"), indicating a commitment to educating pet owners about alternative treatment options.

It's important to understand that Alternative Veterinary Services LLC provides specialized, alternative, and complementary consulting services. While they have a DVM on staff and address various health concerns, their approach is distinct from a conventional veterinary hospital that might perform emergency surgery or offer routine vaccinations as primary services. They work to complement or offer alternatives to traditional veterinary care.

Alternative Veterinary Services LLC distinguishes itself through several compelling features and highlights that are consistently praised by clients:
