The UMass Community Veterinary Clinic at Mt Ida Campus staff and students are awesome! The fees are reasonable and just a great place to bring pets for care. Budhee is a feral cat I brought there for vaccinations. Though the clinic is 31miles away(travel time 50minutes), it was only reasonable price clinic with appointment available so off we went for our first visit. Budhee is a "repeat" customer because he goes there for his annual exams!! - M P

Features / Highlights

  • Exceptional Affordability: By far one of the most compelling features, customers consistently highlight the "reasonable fees" and affordability. This is particularly appealing in an area where private vet clinics can be quite expensive, making quality care accessible to a broader range of pet owners, including those with limited income.
  • Community and Educational Mission: The clinic operates as part of the UMass Amherst Veterinary Technology program. This means that while your pet receives care, you are also "supporting an educational institution and the vet tech teaching program." This dual benefit offers a sense of contributing to future veterinary professionals.
  • Friendly, Caring, and Professional Staff and Students: Reviews emphasize the "most friendly, caring and affordable vet clinic," with staff and students being "awesome." The team, including named individuals like Annmarie, is praised for being "experienced vets" and going "above and beyond in nearly every interaction."
  • High-Quality Care and Expertise: Despite being an educational clinic, the quality of care is repeatedly lauded. Customers trust them for "vaccinations and routine wellness checks" with "fantastic results" for chronic conditions, indicating a high standard of medical proficiency.
  • Thorough and Compassionate Follow-Up: For complex cases, such as an elderly cat with thyroid issues, the clinic provides excellent follow-up, including "a long phone call discussing care and what to watch for," demonstrating a deep commitment to patient well-being beyond the immediate visit.
  • Dedicated to Patient Comfort: Even for "feral cats" like Budhee, who are typically stressed at clinics, the team's approach (resulting in a "repeat customer") suggests a patient-first philosophy that minimizes anxiety and builds trust with challenging animals.
  • Transparency and Honesty: The fact that pet owners are shifting from other clinics due to "private equity took over our neighborhood clinic" suggests a desire for more client-focused, honest pricing, which this clinic successfully provides.
  • Worth the Planning Ahead: While acknowledged that the clinic "is not open every day," clients universally agree that the quality and affordability are "well worth it," indicating a strong value proposition that outweighs the need for advance scheduling.
