Animal Hospital of Dauphin County Reviews
Had an emergency visit for my cat who turned out to have a stroke. My regular very didn't have availability and Shores told me it could be a 6 hour wait. Animal hospital of Dauphin county got me in within a couple of hours by making an appointment. She's an old cat that I feared they would just take one look at her and say put her down. The vet was very kind and didn't suggest that at all. With a plan in place and a kind follow up call my cat is at about 75% of what she was before the stroke. I would recommend this place to anyone particularly in an emergency.

Apr 03, 2025 · JSDuckNCSuch excellent care! I love how well Dr. Austin listens and really seems to understand me and my dog. She is very knowledgeable, yet also open to hearing my thoughts and ideas. The tech we had was great as well. I also feel like it’s very affordable and scheduling is super easy and convenient. I am very happy we made the switch to the AHDC.
Apr 12, 2025 · Kelly StradaWe love the Animal Hospital of Dauphin County! We’ve been to two other vets in the area over the last three decades, and our experience with AHDC has been overwhelmingly positive - it’s far exceeded our expectations in every way. We feel like we’ve found an extended family in them and highly recommend them to others.Thank you to the AHDC staff for all you do, particularly the time you take to educate and support us human family members alongside the phenomenal care you extend to our furry family members!
Oct 22, 2024 · Sheila DerrWe came in as urgent care patients after we had already been to another vet in the area who didn't even take vital signs during their "exam" of our sick dog. When he didn't get better and his gums were turning grey after "just resting his stomach for 24 hours," we called my husband's childhood vet, but they had no openings for new patients and recommended us here. AHDC told us to get him in ASAP (because he was lacking oxygen) and they acted to get him diagnosed (CHF), stabilized (on oxygen and a diruetic to drain fluid from around his lungs), and to the point of being able to be released to us in about 8 hrs with a treatment plan to see a cardiologist and medication to get him through. Unfortunately, he passed away on my husband's lap on the ride home, and although we rushed him to Shore's, it was too late. Now, many might have seen that as a reason NOT to want to continue going to this "new" vet; however, the next morning, we (without our dog, obviously) arrived for our 8am follow up appointment to explain what happened (since we picked him up after closing time the night before and our appt was the first appt of the day @ opening, there was no time to call to discuss instead), the vet who treated him took that appt time to take us back and talk with us, answer questions, and allow us to work through our grief and emotions with him. He did not have to do this (they did not charge us for this time) and I'm sure wasn't the easiest time for him to sit with us while we cried, but he did it anyway. That moment and his compassion, kindness, and empathy for us and our situation is easily one of the most memorable moments of human kindness we have ever experienced, and it meant more than we could ever express. We knew, from that moment on, this is who we wanted to care for our "babies" from now on.When he left, admittedly, we were sad and a bit worried about who would continue to see our furry children. Since then, we've played a bit of "musical chairs" with the other vets, mostly going with whomever had an opening, and everyone we have seen has been wonderful! Some were a better fit for us than others but not because of the care or their expertise, but because of personalities and a feeling of rapport. Now that our old girl is reaching the last phase of her life and has a number of new issues that need treatment/maintenance care, we have been working to try and stick with one vet who we feel is best for us and our girl (and our boy, but he's much younger and doesn't currently have anything that needs extra care). AHDC makes this process pretty easy by having the online appt booking and by directly asking if there is a vet preference for every appt scheduling (online or via phone/office). That helps take the feeling of awkwardness of having to ask to see someone else out of the equation, which I, as someone with anxiety, am SO THANKFUL for!I'm not originally from the area and my parents, who have a number of animals and live "in the middle of nowhere" are always surprised by the amount we pay for the same services that they get much cheaper. I hear all the time that my vet is "expensive." However, I disagree. Good care deserves to be cared for back, and how we do this in business is by agreeing that the service provided is worth more. I may be barely lower middle class, but I like to think I have my priorities somewhat straight, and when it comes to paying for good care for my babies, it's no question. AHDC probably deserves much more than what they charge, because the amount of care, kindness, and professionalism you get is unlike any I've experienced before. I'm proud to take our dogs here and I am forever grateful for everyone there and for Dr. Sarsfield for everything he does to keep this place running, and for our sweet old girl!I've said a lot of words here, and yet it's still not enough to fully express my positive experience and view of AHDC. Truly beyond measure! ♡
