Banfield Pet Hospital Introduce
For pet parents across New Jersey, ensuring the health and happiness of their beloved animal companions is a top priority. Finding reliable, accessible, and comprehensive veterinary care is essential, and many turn to familiar names for their pet's needs. Banfield Pet Hospital, located in Secaucus, offers a convenient option for local residents seeking a range of veterinary services. Situated within the larger PetSmart environment, this clinic aims to provide accessible care for routine check-ups, wellness plans, and various other pet health requirements.
Banfield Pet Hospital is part of a larger network of veterinary clinics known for their wellness plans, often referred to as Optum plans, which aim to make preventive care more manageable for pet owners. These plans typically cover a variety of services, encouraging regular veterinary visits to catch potential issues early. While the convenience of being located within a retail environment like PetSmart is a significant draw, some customer experiences highlight areas where communication and customer service could be more consistent, particularly regarding billing and accessibility of support when unexpected situations arise. Despite these challenges, the hospital strives to be a go-to option for routine and some urgent pet care needs for New Jersey families.
Banfield Pet Hospital in Secaucus is strategically located at 400 Mill Creek Dr, Secaucus, NJ 07094, USA. This address places it within a popular retail hub, specifically inside a PetSmart store. For New Jersey residents, particularly those in Secaucus and surrounding areas like North Bergen, Jersey City, and Kearny, this location offers significant accessibility. Mill Creek Drive is easily reachable via major roadways, including the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) and Route 3, making it a convenient stop for those traveling by car. Ample parking is typically available in the PetSmart lot, which is a considerable advantage in a bustling area like New Jersey. The integration within a PetSmart store also means pet owners can combine their vet visit with shopping for pet supplies, food, or even grooming services, creating a one-stop-shop experience. This convenience is a key factor for busy New Jersey families looking to streamline their pet care routine.
Banfield Pet Hospital offers a variety of veterinary services, typically focused on preventive care and general medicine, often bundled into their "Optum" wellness plans. While specific details for this particular Secaucus location are based on the general services offered by Banfield Pet Hospitals nationwide, and insights from customer reviews, the common offerings include:
- Optum Wellness Plans: These are comprehensive packages designed to provide affordable and accessible preventive care, often including unlimited office visits, vaccinations, routine diagnostic tests, and discounts on other services. They aim to encourage regular check-ups to maintain long-term pet health.
- Preventive Care: This forms the cornerstone of their services, encompassing routine physical examinations, vaccinations (e.g., rabies, distemper, kennel cough), deworming, and parasite control (fleas, ticks, heartworm).
- Puppy and Kitten Plans: Specialized wellness plans tailored to the unique needs of young pets, including their initial series of vaccinations, deworming, and early health screenings.
- Dental Care: While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, Banfield hospitals generally offer professional dental cleanings and advice on oral hygiene to prevent periodontal disease.
- Spay and Neuter Services: Common surgical procedures offered to help control pet overpopulation and improve pet health.
- Diagnostic Services: Basic diagnostic tools such as blood tests, urinalysis, and fecal exams are typically available for diagnosing common ailments. For more advanced diagnostics, referrals might be provided.
- Behavioral Counseling: Guidance on common pet behavioral issues to help improve the bond between pets and their owners.

- General Surgery: Addressing common surgical needs beyond spay/neuter, as appropriate for a general practice setting.
- Microchipping: A vital service for pet identification and recovery in case a pet gets lost.
- Pharmacy Services: Dispensing common pet medications directly from the clinic.
Banfield Pet Hospital, including its Secaucus location, has several features and highlights that are often emphasized as benefits for pet owners, alongside certain aspects that customers sometimes find challenging:
- Convenient Location within PetSmart: This is arguably one of the biggest draws. Being inside a PetSmart allows pet owners to combine their veterinary visits with purchasing pet food, toys, and other supplies, saving time and effort.
- Wellness Plans (Optum): The availability of structured wellness plans provides a predictable cost for preventive care, which can be a significant advantage for budgeting pet health expenses. These plans often include unlimited office visits, encouraging regular check-ups.
- Accessibility: The location in a retail center typically means easy access with ample parking, a significant benefit for New Jersey drivers.
- Grooming Services (Keisha at PetSmart): While not directly a Banfield service, the co-location with PetSmart means access to their grooming salon. One review specifically highlights "Keisha" as an exceptional groomer within PetSmart, noting her gentle, loving, and caring approach, indicating a positive synergy for pet owners who utilize both services at the same location. This suggests that while Banfield handles medical, the adjacent PetSmart services can enhance the overall pet care experience.
- Standardized Procedures: As part of a large national chain, Banfield typically follows standardized protocols and procedures, which can ensure a consistent level of care across different locations.
However, it's also important to acknowledge customer feedback that highlights potential challenges:
- Communication and Follow-up Concerns: One customer experienced significant distress due to a perceived lack of communication regarding ongoing charges and inability to reach the clinic by phone after an unexpected emergency. This suggests that clarity in billing practices and reliable contact methods are areas where improvement is needed to ensure client satisfaction and trust.
- Perceived Prioritization of Charges Over Care: The same customer expressed feeling "shut out" and that "there’s been no follow-up, no check-in, nothing — just charges," leading to a feeling that financial aspects might sometimes overshadow compassionate care. This indicates a need for stronger client-veterinarian relationship building, especially during challenging times for pet owners.
- Phone Accessibility Issues: The recurring issue of the phone line stating the clinic is closed even when it's supposed to be open is a practical concern that can lead to significant frustration for pet owners trying to access care for their animals.

Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
I’m really heartbroken and disappointed for my dog Goku. I was using the plan for about 2 months and only came in once for a check-up. Then I had a medical emergency and had to leave the country unexpectedly. When I came back, I was shocked to see a bill of over $1,000, plus an additional $300 fee. I never received a call, email, or any sort of update while I was away — just ongoing charges. Now, my dog needs care, and I feel completely shut out. The clinic says it’s open, but every time I call, the phone line says it’s closed. It’s incredibly frustrating and stressful when your pet needs help and you can’t reach anyone.I trusted this place with my dog’s well-being, and I genuinely believed they cared. But there’s been no follow-up, no check-in, nothing — just charges. I’m hoping someone from the team can reach out and help resolve this, so I can get my dog seen and feel comfortable returning again. My dog deserves care, and I’m asking for just a little compassion and understanding
Jun 11, 2025 · BrooklynI have been talking my pet Bella to PetSmart location for over 9 years. The visit before this one, was a nightmare. An employee by the name of Tanya shaved 🪒 Bella’s eyes where you could see the blood and pain she was in. I cried, called corporate, spoke to manager. They offered a free doctors visit, free grooming. But that was not the point! My baby was traumatized. But today, Bella was scheduled 📅 for her grooming with KEISHA, she was sweet, gentle, loving and very caring to Bella! Keisha will be the ONLY GROOMER I will ever allow to groom 🤵♀️ Bella! Thank you 😊 Keisha - I so appreciate you 🙏
Apr 04, 2025 · silvia delvalleI love this place. You see a bunch of negative comments up but they are very busy. The only thing that counts is how they treat your pet. They have been nothing short of amazing with my 17 year old Toby. The Women up front are professional and knowledgeable ….as are the Doctors. If the line is busy or on hold just wait. It will be worth it. Thank you all. Xoxo
May 06, 2025 · Frank PurcellMy two dogs have been coming here for vaccinations for 10 years. The staff and doctors are always very friendly and attentive. My dogs always came out happy and seemed to have good visits. I just wish it would be easier to get an appointment there.
Jul 06, 2024 · Ali ChuDr. T, Mika and Jenn were amazing!! So kind, helpful and knowledgeable. We have an almost 12yr old Frenchie (who has been at that facility his whole life) and a new 2lb baby chihuahua who we brought for her first check up. Couldn’t be happier with trusting our babies there!! Thank you so very much! ❤️
