Banfield Pet Hospital Introduce
The Banfield Pet Hospital in O'Fallon, Illinois, situated within the local PetSmart store on West Highway 50, is part of a large national network dedicated to providing accessible and preventive veterinary care. As a combined veterinarian and animal hospital, the facility offers a broad spectrum of medical services for dogs, cats, and small animal pet patients in the greater Illinois region. The primary focus of Banfield Pet Hospital is promoting responsible pet ownership through consistent, proactive health management, heavily featuring their subscription-based Optimum Wellness Plans® (OWP).
The hospital is equipped to provide essential services from routine vaccinations and microchipping to more advanced diagnostics like digital radiography and ultrasonography. They also offer general surgery, including spays and neuters, alongside crucial services such as end-of-life care and medical grooming. The hospital actively promotes pet health education, providing advice on nutrition and behavior to ensure a comprehensive approach to pet wellness.
However, potential clients should approach this facility with full awareness of the dual nature of its feedback. While the hospital offers a structured approach to preventive care, some customer reviews strongly indicate a high-pressure sales environment, with one reviewer stating, "Sell up is their game!" The "full wellness visit" has been described as brief and focused on pushing numerous "mark up options and add ons." Another serious concern noted is the perceived lack of professional separation, where pet procedures are reportedly conducted "out in the open just behind the rooms where the visits are being done," causing uneasiness among pet owners regarding the seriousness of the clinical setting. Administrative issues have also been raised, including poor organizational practices like not posting meeting times and alleged violations of privacy by leaving sensitive customer information visible on counters.
One review detailed a deeply concerning instance where a pet’s initial issue (a bee stinger lodged in the eyelid) was allegedly missed by a veterinarian, leading to an attempt to charge for multiple irrelevant diagnostics and, later, a request for a new consultation fee for the same issue less than 24 hours later. The sentiment from this experience is overwhelmingly negative, concluding that the service is "essentially a overpriced drive thru type of service where theyll charge you top dollar and give you bare minimal or less care in return." This conflicting information means pet owners should weigh the benefits of the convenient, structured wellness plans against the noted concerns regarding service delivery, transparency, and sales focus.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- Do not I repeat do NOT bring your pets to this vet even as a last resort."Drs" a complete joke unprofessional and charge you $72 for a " full wellness visit" which is essentially 5 mins of their time and them throwing a million different mark up options and add ons they can at you to make the quickest buck. Sell up is their game! Ohh and btw if you're bringing your pet in for a procedure its done out in the open just behind the rooms where the visits are being done. No separation whatsoever which as a pet owner leaves you feeling completely uneasy and questioning how seriously you can take a "vet office" set up this way.Its essentially a overpriced drive thru type of service where theyll charge you top dollar and give you bare minimal or less care in return. My dog was going to be sent home with a stinger still lodged in his eyelid after a vet completely missed it even though I suggested it was the issue from the get go(but what do I know as the owner right?). Wanted to do tons of everything else that had absolutely nothing to do with the underlying issue and make you sign to get their exam fee out of you after you decline all their garbage add on services nobody asked for. Ive never been to a reputable vet that makes you sign a waiver acknowledging their exam fee itself. If you're there for a service in a professional setting you know there will be a fee but its as if they know their service is less than par so they need customers to agree to pay for it anyways. Fast forward once stinger was finally removed and given antibiotics and sent home. My dog is obviously having adverse reactions to the venom of the sting and I don't need to have a veterinarian degree in order to know that by just looking at him and the eyelid itself 🙄When I called this morning to tell them it was initially better but now looking worse im immediately told I can bring him back in (of course for another easy $ by charging for a BRAND NEW wellness visit fee for the SAME exact issue less than 24hrs ago🤣). I refused to pay that and of course the blame is turned on me on how I refused all the unnecessary suggestions PRIOR to the stinger being located and removed since afterwards nothing was suggested aside from antibiotics and Benadryl which I was already doing.Theres a million more knowledgeable, and professional veterinarian offices out their just go to them and stay away from these people. You and your pet look like this to them $$$ May 10 · Daniella Araujo
- CPNI left out on the counters for all to see while they took a 25 minute all hands meeting. Me standing there waiting show a prescription to buy my dying dog some food for 25 minutes with no one at the counter. Retail told me you guys have a daily 30 minutes meeting? PUT UP A SIGN/TIME SO PEOPLE KNOW. ALSO.. HIDE/PROTECT HIPPA CPNI STUFF. For $75 exams you should be tip tier at rookie stuff like this... June 20 · Spare Diep
- I brought one of my girls in for a type of emergency visit. I was extremely worried about what might be wrong.Brenda, one of the people who has interacted with my girls since they were 6 weeks old was there to reassure me.The doctor, was amazing, taking the time to go over everything that I was concerned about. Great experience. So thank you to Brenda, for holding my hand, and to the vet, who took his time to go over all the tests July 13 · sharon wyatt
- I wanted to say thank you to all the staff here, we are in town for the week with our Prince. Unfortunately he only has a short time left with us, we needed help getting his fluids yesterday and when we came in everyone from the front desk to the tech were so kind and helped us. It’s been a difficult time since getting the news and the kind gestures from them meant a lot to us. We would trust any pet with them if we lived here. So thank you again from his family. - I lost my fur baby Charlie Moon on 05/07/22. The staff did everything they could to save him, but he was too far gone. Even though this has been the hardest week of my life, it would be remiss to not acknowledge the quality care and excellent staff at this location. Everyone here handled me and my puppy with so much compassion, professionalism, and patience. I am beyond grateful. I especially want to thank Clare, Travis, and Jason for going the extra mile; providing love, hugs, and support. Your pets are in excellent hands here. May 12 · Bri Pearson
