May 15 · Michelle LilligHighly professional and effective practice! I’ve taken my dog to Dr. Stephens for about 3 years. Routine checks, surgery, and the occasional emergency visit. He and his team have aways been accommodating easy to work with.. As a somewhat novice pet owner he has been wonderful at explaining things thoroughly so that I know what to look for and what to do. Sharing care tips freely. I enjoy taking my dog here because I can tell Dr. Stephen cares are about the animals and seeing their growth through the years. The care is always personalized and not rushed and not commercial feeling. I also enjoy being able to come in w my dog to be there and comfort where needed.
March 23 · Nancy GuzmanOakhurst Animal Hospital was highly recommended by volunteers at the Naperville Humane Society. I brought in a kitten that was just adopted for a check up. The vet was very thorough and informative on what the kitten’s records indicated had already been done and what she will need moving forward. He took a lot of time to answer all of my questions and was over all very nice, relaxed, and friendly. The rest of his staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The cost for the visit and vaccines was very very reasonable!! I’m excited to use Oakhurst Animal Hospital moving forward and highly recommend them!
June 26 · Bryan WWe cannot praise this vet enough. Dr. Stephen's has been the best vet we have had in all our years having owned 2 Shih Tzu's who have lived for almost 15 years each. His professional demeanor and his compassion has been exceptional. We are thankful to have found this vet and truly believe he is a gift to the profession. The staff have always been friendly and helpful in so many ways. This certainly is, in my opinion, the best there is!
July 21 · Kevin CooperTOP NOTCH PRACTICEI have been taking my pets to Dr Stephens for at least 8 years, maybe more. He is knowledgable, honest, compassionate, thorough, and very good with all my animals over the years. Dogs and cats! He doesn't order unnecessary tests; flatly says "we COULD do X, but it really won't give us more information". He is not the cheapest vet, but he is the best I've had in 30+ years of pet ownership. That matters more! When one male cat had stones blocking his urine, incredibly sad and painful, he worked with me to treat him as well as keep the bill under control. He was honest about the likelihood of this recurring over and over; this was the second time it had happened. After consideration, we predetermined that the next time, it was the humane thing to let him go. This happened again within a few months, and the pain of repeated episodes and procedures to fix it was too much to put him through again.Another diabetic male cat had a rare disorder with his skin, which Dr Stephens discovered on a routine exam. He was truthful about his prognosis, saying he would be prone to irreparable and painful tearing of the skin, and when it happened, it would likely be bad. This same cat had a terrible abscess that was obstructing his breathing. It unsurprisingly recurred after initial draining, despite proper care. This situation, along with a large tear in his skin that occurred during the same time, led me to the painful decision to let my beloved cat go.With both these situations, Dr Stephens and his staff were phenomenal. They gave me as much time as I needed to say goodbye, and called me after to check on me.I currently have two dogs. One has two rare autoimmune diseases, the other now experiencing early signs of doggie dementia. In both cases, he has been minimalistic in his approach, knocking down expensive and mostly ineffective treatments in favor of easy, OTC options along with the bare minimum of prescription drugs. He responded quickly to an emergency situation we had, and without charging an arm and a leg. He listens to what I say, and makes me feel very respected. He knows that, just like with children, only mama knows best that something is wrong.I do take my dogs to a low-cost program for their routine shots and teeth cleaning, as I am on a fixed income. Anything else goes through him. I will never change vets unless he closes shop! I have told the office staff that he's not allowed to ever move or quit practicing. 🙂
