This educational aspect is a key part of their service, as one customer from Oregon noted, they were taught how to properly care for their pet in a new environment with different health concerns.
Beyond the core services, the Barksdale AFB Veterinary Clinic has several notable features that define its place in the community.
Military Community Focus: The clinic's primary mission is to provide care for Military Working Dogs, which speaks to a high standard of medical expertise. Serving the pets of military personnel and their families is a secondary mission, but the care is still held to a high professional standard. They are an essential part of the support system for those serving at Barksdale AFB.
Educational Approach: The veterinary staff is praised for their patient, thorough, and educational approach. A customer review highlighted how a physician was able to get their dog to cooperate and took the time to listen and satisfactorily answer all their questions. Another reviewer expressed gratitude for being taught how to properly remove ticks, a crucial lesson for someone new to the Louisiana environment.
Limited Availability and Planning: It is important for potential clients to note that the clinic is very busy and can be booked up for weeks in advance. Appointments are recommended, and this high demand reflects the clinic's trusted reputation within the community. For urgent matters, they recommend seeking a clinic outside of the base, as their resources are finite.
Mobile Veterinary Service: The clinic offers a mobile veterinary service, which provides added convenience for clients who may need on-site care. This feature is a great benefit for pet owners who may have difficulty transporting their animals to the clinic.

Barksdale AFB Veterinary Clinic Reviews
We love our physician as she is thorough, patient and always able to get our dog P.J. to cooperate based on the treat system. She always listens and satisfactorily answers our questions. I'm getting an education. I'm not impressed with the receptionist as I visited to pick up meds and she was using the clinic's supplies to trim and stop a nail bleed on her dog. Maybe she had permission however public perception is important.
December 29 · Brenda LoveladyThe Veterinary Clinic on base was very helpful and they took the time to teach and properly explain things to me.I am from Oregon and I never had to deal with ticks or how to remove ticks, so the sight of a ticks on my dog kind of freaked me out. but the Veterinary was very helpful and showed me how to remove ticks and what I should look out for after a tick bite for my fur baby. I was very thankful that this clinic was able to fit me in that day but I will say that they are very busy and from my experience they are usually all booked up for a few weeks in advance.so I would recommend finding a veterinary clinic outside of the base for more urgent matters.
June 21 · Lucy Romero ReyesSuper nice vet and tech. I usually have no issues making appointments and getting the shots/meds we need. Cheaper than civilian vets too! Do keep in mind this vet is ONLY for routine checkups and minor issues so you will want to have an off base vet for emergencies and bigger problems.
November 06 · Tara IsabelleEXPENSIVE. Spay costed us in the lower $200 for a normal dog when multiple relatives said they were getting their larger size dogs done lower $100 range. Definitely look off base for cheaper prices. However, staff was friendly.
March 03 · Jeremiah BeahmThe ladies were amazing! They took my 12 ur old daughter in the back and showed a tour and answered all her questions. She has always wanted to be a veterinarian, now she wants to be a military veterinarian!!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
