Beach Animal Rehabilitation Introduce
For pet owners in California, finding a veterinary practice that goes beyond standard care is crucial, especially when a beloved pet is facing mobility issues, chronic illness, or recovering from a surgical procedure. In the heart of Torrance, CA, Beach Animal Rehabilitation (BARC) stands out as a unique and invaluable resource. More than just a traditional animal hospital, BARC is a specialized rehabilitation center dedicated to helping dogs and cats improve their quality of life through a wide range of therapeutic and holistic treatments. This article will explore what makes BARC a truly exceptional place for pets and their owners.
As an animal hospital and rehabilitation center, BARC offers a specialized approach to pet health. The team is not only comprised of veterinarians but also includes experts in physical therapy and rehabilitation. This collaborative approach allows them to create customized treatment plans that address the root cause of a pet's pain or mobility issues, rather than just the symptoms. The clinic identifies as women-owned, and the positive and nurturing environment is a consistent theme in customer reviews. Clients frequently praise the staff's attentiveness, compassion, and deep understanding of animal behavior. This genuine care is evident from the moment you walk in, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that helps both pets and their owners feel at ease. The clinic's mission is to give pets "a new leash on life," a goal they achieve by using a holistic approach that combines Western veterinary medicine with Eastern practices like acupuncture.
Beach Animal Rehabilitation is conveniently located at 18545 Hawthorne Blvd, Torrance, CA 90504, USA. Its central location on a major thoroughfare makes it easily accessible for residents throughout Torrance and the surrounding communities in the South Bay. Recognizing the challenges that come with transporting pets with mobility issues, BARC has prioritized accessibility. The facility features a wheelchair-accessible entrance, a dedicated wheelchair-accessible parking lot, and a wheelchair-accessible restroom. This thoughtful design ensures that pet owners with special needs can navigate the clinic with ease and comfort.
To provide the focused, one-on-one attention that specialized care requires, the clinic operates on an appointments-required basis. This system ensures that each pet and owner receives the full attention of the veterinary and rehabilitation team without the stress of a crowded waiting room or long, unexpected waits.
BARC specializes in a comprehensive range of rehabilitation and wellness treatments for pets, particularly senior, disabled, and post-surgical animals.
- Hydrotherapy and Water Therapy: Using an underwater treadmill, they offer a low-impact exercise method that helps pets build strength and improve mobility without putting stress on their joints. This is especially effective for senior pets and those with conditions like hip dysplasia.
- Acupuncture: As a key part of their holistic approach, they provide veterinary acupuncture for pets, which can help with pain management, chronic illness, and wound healing.
- Cold Laser Therapy: This therapeutic treatment helps reduce pain and inflammation and promotes wound healing and tissue regeneration.
- Manual Therapy and Therapeutic Exercises: Their trained staff uses hands-on techniques and specific exercises to improve a pet’s range of motion, strengthen muscles, and aid in neurologic rehabilitation.
- Specialized Mobility Aids: They assist with fitting and providing carts for pets, helping to restore mobility and independence for disabled animals.
- Additional Services: Other offerings include diet counseling and food therapy, pain relief, day boarding, and a pet hotel for when owners need to be away.
What truly sets Beach Animal Rehabilitation apart is its unique combination of specialized services and a deeply compassionate approach.
- Women-Owned Business: As a women-owned business, the clinic fosters a nurturing and inclusive environment that prioritizes empathy and quality care.
- Holistic and Integrative Approach: By combining Eastern and Western medicine, they offer a well-rounded treatment plan that can be more effective for complex conditions. A reviewer noted that the doctors "explain every step of the treatment. Laser, Acupuncture, Full Measures on the consultation! No skipping to save money and no BS."
- Expertise in Pet Rehabilitation: The clinic's focus is not just on medical treatments but on physical therapy, giving pets with arthritis, hip dysplasia, or post-operative needs a chance to regain mobility and improve their quality of life.
- Unwavering Compassion: Customer reviews are filled with praise for the staff's kindness and patience. One owner wrote that their boy "fell asleep during treatment" and that the "vet tech...is so kind to the dogs," demonstrating the trust and comfort animals feel at the clinic.
- Client Education: They are committed to empowering pet owners. One reviewer mentioned being given "homework to do at home and hands on instructions on how to massage Chase and stretch and ice him every night," showing their dedication to a collaborative approach to pet recovery.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I'd give a 10 star review if it was possible. My Milo has been coming here over a year. He's 14 with arthritis, gets physical therapy, underwater treadmill, and acupuncture. It's greatly reducing his pain and extending his life. The pic is only from 3 days ago. Wow. All of the employees are wonderful. He loves to go to BARC. I'm so grateful to have found this place. ❤❤❤
February 12 · Jamie BurtonThe people here are so tuned into the animals. My boy fell asleep during treatment. The greeting you get when you walk in the door is so warm. The vet tech ...he is so kind to the dogs. The doctors are so understanding and they explain every step of the treatment. Laser, Acupuncture, Full Measures on the consultation! No skipping to save money and no BS.....I was recommended to another Dog Rehabilitation in Orange County and I regret that I bothered with them. This establishment and the staff here washed away that last experience at the place in OC and I now have hope again for Chase to recover faster! B.A.R.C gave me.homework to do at home and hands on instructions on how to massage Chase and stretch and ice him every night! LOVE THEM!!!
August 21 · Yuki Danielle KawakamiWe have been taking our 6 year old Dachshund Oliver to BARC for a little over a year now. He was diagnosed with IVDD and had horrible bouts of pain that would reoccur every few months. Some of these episodes were extremely traumatic for us as they basically arose out of nowhere and really left us in a state of shock with no idea on what to do for our baby. I had heard from some other vets that acupuncture was very helpful for dachshunds with similar issues, that was how I initially discovered BARC as they offered this treatment. At our first appointment we discussed all of Oliver's daily habits, activity level, eating habits/diet, pain levels, movement et cetera. The one glaring characteristic was his eating habits, he would regularly skip meals, sometimes only eating a few bites of the dry food we were feeding him. We fed him ziwi peak dry food and many other dry food brands all to similar results, he just showed little interest in the food. His activity level was high, very playful, he moved well he just always had this eating habit of skipping meals and showing no interest in food. Dr. Voulgaris first advised we change his diet to Just Food For Dogs and try weekly acupuncture for pain. The change to JFFD made an IMMEDIATE difference. Oliver was now all of a sudden super food driven, he would finish every single meal, never skipping a meal. He still has never skipped a meal or not finished a meal to this day. This was such a stark change from his past eating habits. Oliver is a pretty nervous and shy dog so we were doubtful he would tolerate acupuncture but he handled it fine, first with us present, then later without us. We could not be happier with BARC, they have seriously changed our lives and helped Oliver regain a pain free life.
December 27 · Jake HurwitzI take my senior (17.5yo) dog here every week, bc she deserves to be as comfortable as possible with whatever remaining time we have with her.The staffs here are wonderful and has taken good care of her. With all the sessions and supplements that were recommended after evaluations, I have noticed improvements. Not like "she has puppy energy again", but more peaceful, calm, regaining of some appetite, longer awake periods, and a little more mobility.Mind you, she still sleeps more than she walks, but my goal is to make sure she has quality life, and BARC is a regular part of it.PS. (A bit obvious, but I'm going to mention it anyway) I recommend that you research and make sure that you are able to afford their service. And if you decided to go regularly, I recommended getting the (10 session) package deal. It's not cheap, but amount is less than if you pay for 10 sessions one at a time.
October 08 · JYOur beloved boy Briggs (12 year old, 80 lb Labrador Retriever) had two surgeries for herniated disks. Two in his neck and two in his lower back. Beach Animal Rehabilitation Center (BARC) was recommended to us by his back surgeon, Dr. Wayne Berry from Southern California Veterinary Hospital. You couldn't ask for a better group of people to help with the rehabilitation of your pet. Everyone there is wonderful and treat you and your pet like family. Briggs worked with everyone there. He had acupuncture, laser therapy, physical therapy and water therapy. They are all top of their game at BARC. We have since recommended them to several friends, coworkers and dog rescues. If you are looking for top quality care by people who will love your pet as their own, this is the place to go. I just cannot say enough good things about them.
