My cat has never been to a fear free clinic before, so this was such an eye opening experience for us both. She was much more relaxed than she's ever been at the vets and the staff were incredibly helpful, didn't beat around the bush, and the payment plan option is actually so much more affordable long term than using care credit for basic care. Now I can keep the care credit for emergencies and I know my cat is getting excellent care. Was especially impressed with Felicia, who went above and beyond for my fur baby--even managed to get her onto a scale of her own accord!--and Dr. Lindsay was fantastic and really helped to ease my worries. Looking forward to having my cat be a patient there long term. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience!

From getting an appointment same day, to being seen as soon as I arrived, they made my situation a lot easier. The front desk staff were friendly and professional. The vet tech that helped us was very kind. Dr. Gallagher was straightforward, professional, understanding, and kind. I can’t say enough good things!!! I was also very happy to see Pride flags adorning the lobby and windows! Highly recommend.

The office was clean and welcoming, every staff member was friendly and helpful, and I had a chance to ask all of my questions. They made it very easy to get medical records for pet insurance. I really appreciate how much they do to make the clinic environment feel safe and relaxing for pets, and I was impressed that my cat was playful and calm the entire visit. Absolutely the best vet I've ever gone to, highly recommend!

I want to join many others to comment here about the insane pricing and lack of transparency at this clinic, so that others can become aware.My dog had some minor scratches on his paws. The first trip we were charged $120 for the visit (yes, as previous reviewers noted, just entering their door will cost you $100+). The second trip for the same problem, we were charged $225.51 (excluding the anal glance expression, which was $45 with no additional fees, which is why we were expecting that as the price for an anal glance expression). The third time, for just anal glance expression, we were charged $107.57, without any communication about the extra technician charge. Here are several problems:1. I understand that Boston is a more expensive city (one reason you cited for the higher price when reviewers pointed out the comparison with other major cities). My dog's anal glance procedure at a highly rated clinic in Atlanta cost $35 for the entire visit. We are prepared to accept $10 extra compared to other cities for a procedure. But we are not prepared to pay three times. Grasping how ridiculous this is, your staff had to suggest that we do this procedure less frequently to make this financially manageable.2. As other reviewers pointed out, the medicine and supplies are two to three times more expensive than other retailers. One response from Boston Veterinary Clinic to previous complaints is that patients appreciate getting the medicine earlier than Chewy. But do you not see your logic? You are taking advantage of people's emergencies to overcharge them. As you can see from my invoice, a plastic E-collar $24.84 while a few minutes away at Petco, the same thing is just ten dollars. Do you really need to overcharge so much for a piece of plastic when my dog was injured and I was anxious?3. This kind of pricing was nowhere to be found on their website.4. The follow-up visit texts to which I responded, with pictures and questions, were never answered.My partner and I are debt-free homeowners, each with six-figure salaries. Even with this level of financial resources, we simply can't afford vet care of $520 in just two months.Boston Veterinary Clinic takes the reviewers seriously and responds to negative reviews (albeit defensively). So let me pre-emptively answer some responses given to previous reviewers. (1) Please do not call me and offer a refund to bribe me out of this review. (2) Please do not suggest that your pricing is competitive compared to other "urban" clinics. No, it is simply not true. Please do not mislead other readers or insult our ability to do investigations. (3) Please do not say that you are always transparent, and estimates are available on request. You can simply display the charges you make on your website BEFORE people make visits (as Tandem and many others do). You deliberately withheld them.Boston Veterinary Clinic has become powerful with many branches dominating Boston vet care. I don't imagine one single review will challenge their power. So, let me directly appeal to the conscience of the owners who respond to reviews here. When you dreamed of becoming a veterinarian at a young age and then opened a clinic based on "trust and compassion," I am sure that dream from boyhood did not include profit maximization. You are not a publicly traded company and you are not compelled by finance-dominated capitalism to maximize your profitability above all else. Even if you have decided to serve only the 1%, you should at least make your intention clear. What you essentially do with this combination of jacked-up price and lack of transparency is for patients to build up a relationship with your vets, and then have to leave and establish new care elsewhere. (not to mention in emergency situations your clinic is the only option for same-day care given how infrequently it is visited.) Please let "trust and compassion" guide you moving forward.
Jul 01, 2025 · ConanI genuinely could not recommend this vet any less. They pretend to be kind, but they only care about extracting as much money as possible from you. When I initially came to this vet, I really liked them, and they got along well with my dog. After a few months, they diagnosed her with kidney disease and eventually diagnosed her with Canine Cognitive Dysfunction. They placed her on prescription food, but when she eventually started to reject this food, the only alternative they provided was a food that cost about $100 for a two-week supply. They kept insisting that I get my prescriptions through their online pharmacy, which upsold every product (I was able to find them cheaper elsewhere online, like on Chewy, but it was difficult for me to get them to send a physical prescription so I could obtain them anywhere other than THEIR pharmacy). We kept going back when I could afford to do tests, and at one visit, I made a comment to a vet tech about how we have not been able to come in very often or follow all of the medications because of how extremely expensive everything is. The vet tech was very sympathetic, especially because Lacey was really sick, so she told us to wait a second and then came back with information about a "Complete Care Plan." They sold the plan to me as a cost-saving measure, where I would pay $60 a month, and this would cover one vet visit a month in addition to some other things. I thought this was a great deal because I was already going to the vet for an appointment with the vet techs at least once a month for a Librela shot (for arthritis). With this plan, I was able to get an appointment with the vet instead, who was able to give me more information on the status of Lacey's kidney disease and continually evaluate her cognitive decline. Lacey's condition only got worse and worse, to the point that she was unable to control her bladder and her bowel movements. She would often forget who my roommates were, even though she had known them for a while, and would lash out violently. There were multiple instances where she lashed out and bit me, and as she started to forget who even I am, it became really difficult for me to uphold a good quality of life for her. We discussed this with the vet (who was extremely uncomfortable about the subject and would not even look me in the eye), and they basically just handed me a business card for a 3rd party euthanasia service that was also extremely overpriced. After I opted for a more reasonably priced service, I informed the vet that Lacey had passed away and her remains were delivered to the vet's office for me to pick up, so they were very aware of what was going on. The vet's office seemed to be kind at first, and they sent me a card with the signatures of a bunch of staff. But after Lacey died, they continued to bill me monthly for her Complete Care Plan. I was really confused about this because I paid the invoice in full every time I visited. It has been over 2 months, and they still continue to bill me for this plan despite my repeated requests to cancel. When I asked about this, they informed me that the Complete Care Plan is for 12 months, and it cannot be cancelled prematurely (even if the dog passes), so I am obligated to pay for those months regardless of whether or not I am receiving any services. When I tried to explain that my dog is dead and therefore no longer receiving vet services, they insinuated that I was trying to "cheap out" of paying my bill, and they continuously repeated how I have to "pay for the services I have received," even though I paid my invoice religiously every visit. Staff were incredibly rude, said I "don't know how companies work," and completely refused to help (both in person and over phone). I am a law student, so the assumption that I simply misread the contract was almost offensive (I did read it upon signup, even if I missed a confusing email they sent shortly after her death about not being able to cancel). This place is a scam. They are not "your other family doctor," they are a corporation that wants your money.
