My experience with Natalya has turned out to be the opposite of that of Evan Lloyd as far as kitten personality. Background: I really wanted a black British Shorthair and she had 2 month-old "Black Boy." We were able to get him within a month or so. In Natalya's arms he seemed shy and docile, but also fearful, which may be the cause of the latter behavior. Upon bringing him home and having him a couple weeks, I noticed he was very afraid and began hissing and spatting at me and my children.I thought it was just him getting used to his new home. But, it continued. It is like he was not socialized and wanted nothing to do with us. This made me very sad and worried. I wondered why he is the way he is. Like he hates us. I then realized, he was most likely kept in the basement with the other cats, and rarely - if ever, taken to socialize with any humans. He had no human contact as a baby for so long, and was ignored and shut away with the other cats, and this turned him into a quasi feral cat. Does he need some type of feline psychologist or behavior therapist??Now, at seven months, he is still this way, but we have been "working" with him, cuddling him, and my children take him in their room and play and talk to him. He does not prefer this quality time with humans, and wants to get away. In the last month I have noticed that he is slowly - very slowly, improving. He still hisses and spats and will claw at anything he can get his little adorable paws on. We have an older British Shorthair male, Cosmo, who is low-key mellow, sweet, will sit with us when we have him on the couch, and even lets my little girl dress him up. I am hoping that Basilisk will grow to be like him. Yes, the name took forever to find for this black kitten because of his little vicious nature and snake eyes - just like a little snake dragon.I don't know how to tell if a kitten has been socialized, but I do not wish anyone to spend so much on a cat who does not even want you and makes you feel like you are not wanted in their life. Maybe in a few years, Bas's love for his family will grow, thus calming and reassuring him to open up to us. Best of Luck. - Madeline Morrell
