Chickahominy Animal Hospital possesses several features and highlights that define its approach to veterinary care, as indicated by customer experiences.
Features / Highlights:
- Compassionate End-of-Life Support: A standout feature, as vividly described by a customer who experienced the loss of their pet, Quimby. The review notes, "We showed up with her body and the employees behaved as if we just lost a family member. Your care for her and her humans will not soon be forgotten." This speaks volumes about the empathy and genuine care extended to pet owners during their most difficult times, demonstrating a deep understanding of the human-animal bond.
- Professional and Supportive Staff (in specific instances): The positive review highlights the staff's compassionate demeanor during a highly sensitive situation, indicating that the team is capable of providing profound emotional support in addition to medical care.
- Local Community Presence: Being an established animal hospital in Providence Forge, the clinic serves as a vital local resource, contributing to the health and well-being of the area's pet population.
- Availability of Comprehensive Services: As a general animal hospital, it aims to provide a wide range of services from routine check-ups to more complex medical and surgical interventions.
It is important to acknowledge that customer experiences can vary, as illustrated by the contrasting review. While the profound positive feedback on compassionate end-of-life care is a significant highlight, the negative review points to concerns regarding communication, diagnostic approach, and perceived judgment. This particular feedback describes a very challenging experience involving perceived rudeness, a lack of direct vet examination in the room, questionable diagnostic recommendations (a costly test for lymphoma versus a simpler infection, which an antibiotic later resolved), and a feeling of being judged regarding pet care. It also mentions a suggestion to surrender the dogs. Prospective clients should consider both types of feedback, weighing the highly compassionate care provided in one instance against communication and approach concerns in another. These contrasting reviews suggest that while the hospital can provide deeply empathetic care, there may be inconsistencies in communication or the client experience in other areas.

Chickahominy Animal Hospital Reviews
I need to say thank you for caring for our sweet Quimby who passed away. We showed up with her body and the employees behaved as if we just lost a family member. Your care for her and her humans will not soon be forgotten. Thank you.
Nov 20, 2024 · Scott BrittonIf I could give zero stars I would. I took my two standard poodles here after Village vet closed. One was sick. Lymph nodes swollen, bum red and seemed all the way just not feeling well. After trying to communicate with three different techs relaying messages to the vet as she doesn't examine your animal in front of you in The room. The vet comes in says she needs a 300 dollar test because she thinks she has lymphoma. I asked do you think she could have a Infection from. Her bum? No she said,it would be the first. She said, She knew someone who would take my dogs because I couldn't afford the test. She asked me did they stay outside because I had told one of the techs that they primarily were outside dogs. As if they were mistreated. They have a fenced yard that leads to a deck that has a doggy door that they can come and go inside to the laundry room where they see us in the kitchen anytime they want with food available always. Also they go camping with us on the weekends. So they run play and get dirty! Not that I should have to explain all of this to them!I messaged my husband and he said, get a antibiotic if it doesn't clear up or(lymph nodes) don't go down and she doesn't get better. We would know it was something serious. After she took the antibiotics for now just 5 days lymph nodes have gone down ...she's barking and all the way around much better.I was there getting vaccinations. I was behind on some... not the rabes. But they suggested I surrender my dogs to a Tech that loved poodles there.Never again will I ever step foot back there! The worst most horrible experience I have ever had at a veterinarian office.
Sep 02, 2024 · Lisa WhitmanMy Dog Just Passed away, he was my best friend for 8 years. And we called this vet a few days before he died, because we knew it was bad and he needed help. They wouldn't see him, we needed to make a Appointment. So he passed away a few days later. We call them to see if they can take the body, and they say. Yes, bring him over. It will be $90. When we show up, they never said "sorry for your Loss" They just said it's $90. They were more worried about the transaction than the passing of my best friend. I will never go there again.
Sep 10, 2024 · Mathias FreemanUnfortunately, I went with my sister to have her dog put down.Everyone there could not have been any nicer. They had compassion, understanding, and so thoughtful. The sweet dog was cremated & when she picked him up, they gave her a beautiful wooden box with his name on it. It meant so much to her.I will be changing Vets after this encounter.
