Normally I would not leave a review but I feel like I have to. I went to Coffey a little over a month ago because my dog had this awful rash on him. Nothing I was doing was making it better. It seemed to be an allergic reaction but I did not know what to. So I took him in. First issue Coffey herself never actually came in and spoke with me. They kept taking my dog out of the room to look at him. I could hear Coffey and also saw her at the desk when I first walked in but she never spoke directly to me. Whatever at that point I get it she’s busy. The assistant was looking at my dog and every single question she asked was related to fleas and allergies. I answered to the best of my ability. I also mentioned he is a very anxious dog and I wondered if that may have anything to do with him chewing his skin like that. They take my dog out again, do tests. Come back to tell me that my dog has a possible life ending disease that I had never heard of. That just so happened to be connected with stress levels or something like that. Told me they needed to give him a test that cost nearly $500 on top of the $140 they charged me that day. Told me my dog would die if we didn’t get it under control. MIND YOU the only questions asked before this point was about the detergent I used and the flea medicine I use. They also claimed his cortisol levels were a little off and that somehow led to this deadly disease!! I had literally told them my dog is naturally anxious and they took him out of the room away from me to do tests. He was SCARED! Of course his stress levels would be wonky. I was hysterical at this point. The assistant couldn’t even properly explain the disease to me. Coffey still NEVER came in to talk to me herself. I took my dog to red barn, he gave him some antibiotics and ointment…the rash is basically gone. I don’t know if they wanted a money grab or just had no idea what was wrong with him. Just be careful. I personally would never take another animal there and if you do please get a second opinion before throwing away a bunch of money. - Makiya Weaver

Coffey's Vet Center Introduce

For pet owners in Kentucky, finding a veterinarian who can provide not only routine check-ups but also advanced, specialized treatments is a significant priority. In Columbia, Coffey's Vet Center stands out for its unique blend of cutting-edge technology and a focus on progressive, individualized medicine. This clinic, led by Dr. Janice Coffey, is not a traditional animal hospital; it is a center dedicated to embracing new techniques and technologies aimed at treating underlying conditions rather than just masking symptoms. From regenerative medicine to cancer treatments, Coffey's Vet Center offers a suite of services that are often only found in larger, urban veterinary referral centers.

The philosophy at Coffey's Vet Center is centered on the "art of medicine"—problem-solving and adjusting treatment plans to offer targeted care for each individual patient. This approach is particularly relevant for complex cases, such as chronic pain or serious illnesses. The clinic prides itself on offering services like Stem Cell Regenerative Therapy and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments, which are at the forefront of veterinary medicine. This commitment to progressive care makes the center a unique and valuable resource for pet owners in the Kentucky region who are seeking alternative or advanced options for their beloved animals. They are known for providing these services at an affordable price, making them more accessible to the community.

However, it is important for potential clients to be aware of the experiences of others. While the clinic provides a broad range of advanced services, some customer reviews express concerns about communication and the approach to diagnosis. Some clients have reported that the vet does not always speak with them directly and that staff may take pets out of the exam room for testing. There have also been instances where clients felt that the clinic's diagnostic process led to alarming and potentially inaccurate initial diagnoses without fully exploring more common causes, such as allergies or anxiety-related issues, as verified by second opinions. It is a good practice for pet owners to feel empowered to ask questions and seek a second opinion to ensure they are comfortable with any proposed treatment plan, especially when dealing with complex or expensive procedures. This due diligence ensures that pet owners can make the most informed decisions for their pet's health.

Despite these reported concerns, the clinic has a long history in the community, with Dr. Coffey having practiced in Adair County for over thirty years. Her deep love for animals and her passion for progressive medicine are the driving forces behind the center. The clinic’s focus on personalized treatment plans and the availability of advanced imaging and regenerative medicine still make it a place of interest for pet owners with specific or complex health needs, particularly for those with exotic animals or chronic pain issues that might benefit from these specialized therapies.

For Kentucky pet owners, choosing Coffey's Vet Center is a decision that centers on the availability of advanced medical and surgical options. The clinic's specialization in areas like regenerative medicine and cancer treatment provides a valuable resource for those with pets facing complex health challenges, and for owners of exotic animals. While the advanced technology is a clear benefit, it is crucial for pet owners to weigh all factors before a visit. The clinic’s focus on progressive medicine and its commitment to offering a wide range of services are compelling reasons to consider it.

However, as seen in some customer feedback, a level of diligence on the part of the pet owner is advisable. Given the reports of communication issues and the nature of initial diagnoses, it is prudent for pet owners to ask detailed questions about proposed tests and treatments, and to consider seeking a second opinion, especially for a serious diagnosis. The clinic’s long-standing presence in the community and its commitment to providing cutting-edge treatments at a more affordable price than a specialist center makes it an interesting option. For a pet owner looking for these specific, high-tech services in the Columbia area, Coffey's Vet Center remains a relevant choice, provided they are prepared to be an active advocate in their pet's care.
