4.0
The first visit was honestly phenomenal. My dog and I met great people who seemed to care. Got us to get the extra shots and everything!! Each visit worsened after that. This facility is absolutely 100% profit driven. No other way to put the treatment and bedside manner received. They’ll let your pet leave knowing it’s possible there’s a bigger issue then BLAME YOU for not spending the money for the tests the first time…. Even when THEY advised other trials. There is a reason they’re boasting that they are taking new patients, because people who truly love their pets are going elsewhere. Special shoutout to Dr Goldberg who will take a week to get back to you, and when they do, they’ll be sure to make you feel cheap and make it seem like they didn’t advise you on the decisions made. Do your loved ones a favor and seek an alternate care facility. I love my dog more than words can comprehend, I take the best care of her I possibly can. Leaving this review does not bring me joy, I am hoping it helps another person and or their pet, get better care. - Jesse Willette

Services Offered

Conway Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive array of veterinary services, reflecting a commitment to supporting the health and longevity of pets in the New Hampshire community. Their services cover various aspects of veterinary medicine, from routine preventive care to more advanced medical and surgical interventions. Their website and general information indicate a robust offering:

  • Wellness and Vaccinations: A cornerstone of their practice, this includes routine annual physical examinations, customized vaccination protocols to protect against common and dangerous diseases (such as rabies, distemper, parvovirus, feline leukemia), and preventative programs for internal and external parasites (heartworm, fleas, ticks).

  • Surgical Services: Conway Veterinary Hospital provides a range of surgical procedures. This includes routine surgeries like spaying and neutering, as well as various soft tissue surgeries. They also mention that they perform "more complex veterinary surgical procedures, including orthopedics," indicating a higher level of surgical capability than some general practices. They emphasize pre-anesthetic testing, monitoring during surgery, and pain management for patient safety and comfort.

  • Dentistry: Recognizing the importance of oral health, they offer comprehensive dental services. This would typically include professional dental cleanings (scaling and polishing under anesthesia), dental X-rays, and extractions to address periodontal disease and other oral issues.

  • Medical Assessment & Diagnostics: To accurately diagnose and treat illnesses, the hospital utilizes various diagnostic tools. This includes in-house laboratory services for blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams. They also offer digital radiology (X-rays) for examining bones, internal organs, and diagnosing various conditions. For more in-depth assessments, they may also recommend or utilize advanced diagnostics such as ultrasound or biopsy.

  • Pain Management and Control: A key aspect of modern veterinary care, they focus on managing both acute and chronic pain in pets, using various strategies to ensure comfort and improve quality of life.

  • Microchipping: Providing microchip implantation services, which are crucial for permanent pet identification and significantly increase the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners.

  • Emergency Care: The hospital states they are "equipped to handle all types of veterinary emergencies," including illness, bloat, poisoning, trauma, and lacerations, positioning themselves as a vital resource for urgent pet medical needs in the area. This indicates a readiness for critical situations.

  • Boarding: They offer boarding services designed with safety, comfort, and cleanliness in mind, including fully fenced outdoor runs for exercise, providing a safe place for pets when their owners are away.

  • Bathing and Grooming: General bathing and nail trimming services are also available, contributing to overall pet hygiene and comfort.

Features / Highlights

Conway Veterinary Hospital, as highlighted by client experiences, possesses a mix of features that define its practice within the New Hampshire veterinary landscape. It's important to consider both the praised attributes and the concerns raised by some individuals to gain a comprehensive understanding.

  • Comprehensive Care Offering: A significant highlight is the wide array of services provided, from routine wellness to advanced surgery and emergency care, positioning them as a potentially one-stop solution for many pet health needs. The availability of boarding and grooming also adds convenience.

  • Compassionate Care (as experienced by some): Positive reviews praise the staff and doctors, such as Dr. Sheri, for genuinely loving animals and treating pets "as if she was a family member." This level of personal, caring attention is highly valued by pet owners, especially during vulnerable times.

  • Thoroughness: Some clients have noted the practice as "very thorough," which implies careful examination and attention to detail in their medical assessments.

  • Dedication to Animal Well-being: The sentiment from some clients indicates a perception of dedicated professionals who prioritize the animals' well-being. This is a core expectation for any veterinary hospital.

However, it is crucial to address the significant concerns raised by other reviews, as these impact the overall perception and experience:

  • Concerns about "Profit-Driven" Practices: One detailed negative review critically states the facility is "100% profit driven." This is a serious accusation that suggests a focus on upselling tests or procedures, potentially without fully exploring other diagnostic paths or considering financial implications for pet owners. The claim of blaming owners for not spending more after initially advising "other trials" is a specific red flag for some.

  • Issues with Communication and Bedside Manner: This same review highlights "rudeness" and "condescending" tones, particularly from one specific doctor (Dr. Goldberg), and a significant delay in returning calls ("a week to get back to you"). Lack of aftercare instructions or follow-up for a full exam after an issue was treated also points to inconsistencies in client communication and follow-through. This can create a highly frustrating and unprofessional experience for pet owners.

  • Patient Acquisition vs. Retention: The comment about the hospital "boasting that they are taking new patients" while existing ones are "going elsewhere" suggests potential issues with client retention, possibly linked to the aforementioned service concerns.

These contrasting reviews present a mixed picture. While some clients have excellent, compassionate experiences, others report significant dissatisfaction, particularly concerning communication, perceived financial motivations, and consistency of care. This suggests that individual experiences at Conway Veterinary Hospital can vary greatly.

Conclusion: Why Conway Veterinary Hospital is Suitable for Locals (with considerations)

For pet owners in the Conway area and the wider New Hampshire region, Conway Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services, making it a potential local resource for their pets' healthcare needs. Its suitability for locals can be viewed through a nuanced lens, considering both its strengths and the notable concerns raised by some clients.

On one hand, the hospital's accessible location on East Main Street in Conway provides a significant convenience for residents of the Mount Washington Valley. This ease of access is crucial, especially for routine visits or in times of emergency, ensuring that pets can receive timely care without extensive travel. The broad spectrum of services offered, from routine wellness and vaccinations to various surgical procedures (including orthopedics) and even emergency care and boarding, suggests that Conway Veterinary Hospital aims to be a comprehensive, one-stop solution for many pet health requirements. For New Hampshire families seeking a single practice to address most of their pet's needs, this wide offering is a clear advantage. The positive experiences highlighting the "thorough" and "caring" nature of some staff members and veterinarians, like Dr. Sheri, demonstrate a capacity for compassionate and dedicated care, treating pets like family members.

However, it is vital for New Hampshire locals to be aware of the significant contrasting experiences reported. Concerns about the practice being "100% profit driven," coupled with reports of rude and condescending communication, delayed responses, and a perceived lack of adequate aftercare instructions, indicate potential inconsistencies in client service and transparency. Such issues can severely impact trust and satisfaction, particularly when dealing with the emotional and financial aspects of pet healthcare. The implication that pets were allowed to leave with potential underlying issues, with the blame then shifted to the owner for not pursuing additional expensive tests despite previous advice for "other trials," highlights a critical area of concern regarding patient advocacy and communication.

Therefore, while Conway Veterinary Hospital offers a full suite of services that could be highly beneficial for New Hampshire pet owners, it's advisable for new clients to engage with them proactively. Openly discussing expectations for communication, understanding proposed treatment plans and their associated costs thoroughly, and observing interactions during initial visits could help mitigate potential dissatisfaction. For locals, this hospital represents a comprehensive service provider with a strong local presence, but as with any important service, personal vetting and clear communication are key to ensuring a positive and suitable experience for your beloved pet.
