My son took his dog Boone here on Monday 6/16/25, which would be his final visit to this place. Boone had to be put to sleep as he was very sick and no stranger to being at this place. Sad to have to put a 1 1/2 year old dog to sleep. They have always treated us and the pet well, however my issue is, you have so many people that want to be able to take care of their pet but when you are the pricing seems to give you two options. The first option is to pay the high pricing or put the animal down. In our case it was more compassionate to put the dog down then to subject him to a lot of torture. The second is to euthanize not always the best option. I wish there was a way they could adjust their pricing to make it more affordable for people that want to care for their pet. Finally I feel that , if the outcome has to euthanize the pet, they should waive the bill. It is an extremely emotional time for the pet owner and not the outcome that was hoped for. I do recognize that these folks serve a valuable purpose and all the people we've dealt with have been fantastic and compassionate, just feel like pricing is taking advantage of a situation. I do recommend this place if you are in need. Four stars solely for pricing.
Jun 26, 2025 · Terry SmithAn emergency I caused resulted in me calling here. This will be max length. I love my cat more than I love any human being related by blood (I *hated* cats prior), truly. We took her in after a year of feeding her outside, Xmas Eve, she was covered in ice just waiting for love after my work. Tonight, I thought she may have ingested something that is toxic to her & lost my mind, I called multiple places, including the Poison Hotline, which btw - the lack of urgency in the automated loop & to wait until the very end to mention it's 95$ simply to speak to someone or get f'd. America Rules!- & this place was by FAR the most compassionate in dealing with my rambling, incoherent panicked self. I know I sounded insane, I could hear myself and couldn't stop. I genuinely & truthfully wasn't think about if I should but how I should be laying next to her if she didn't make it because I was shattered. It was a choice between going there & not eating or paying Duke for 2 weeks or to settle down and actually assess a situation more in depth with information I needed to make the decision on whether to go or not. If this was during the day I, without a 2nd thought or any amount of hyperbole sold my 2023 Civic to the first person who answered for under 300$ just to get her healthy. I'd opt to have my arms & legs cut off with a butter knife covered in malaria & hepatitis A before I would let her get a splinter.To the phone answerer (I'm sorry, we spoke twice & yet I still managed to forget your name because all I heard was my internal monologue asking me how I am so inept at life), thank you. I called another hospital prior, one closer & even in my manic state knew that I should be able to get more information, compassion and a little bit more guidance at least loose guidance, enough to diagnose whether or not I should do 190 mph down McDonald parkway to get her to the Vet. You went above and beyond, if that job doesn't work out please gently slide into therapy and then contact me again because tonight is going to cause me to need it. I am eternally grateful you were working tonight and I know it wasn't technically a visit, or an incredibly lengthy conversation, but without you I absolutely would have snapped and just sat with no electricity for 2 weeks just to make sure she was okay, and that would have been worth it if she was fine in the end. I whole heartedly believe you have done more for me than the last 12 years of American presidents and the entirety of the Supreme Court. I actually thought about calling back &asking for your Venmo to buy you lunch or something. Society is so cold today, its transactional & empathy for other people is gone. We are encouraged to blame others on their situations & disregard the fact our systems are designed to cause hardships. My sheer panic being met with empathetic humanity is not only appreciated, but I will always remember it & I do not know you at all, but hope that you brush off on those around you & it spreads.My cat is fine. I gave her the most absurd amount of treats, everything she liked once we were in the clear. I consumed roughly 6 Redbulls in caffeine, multiple forms of ginseng, guarana, & some DMHA I had from my gym days at 12:30am to make sure I can stay up 12 more hours with her, even though I'm well passed the cut off for an emergency (right? RIGHT?, no jk I am, she's fine). I called out of work & I used an amazon gift card I had waiting to be used on the new Nintendo Switch 2 to buy her a gigantic cat tree with accessibility for her old butt to use. I literally googled "Cat Baking Recipes" to see if I could make her cupcakes or something just to celebrate her being her. I'm about to lay curled up in this papasan chair that I got for my girlfriend but was completely taken over by the cat and wake up at 9pm later, crippled from my spine being an "S" all day with no errands done, only because I want to be near her and just tell her how much I love her and she has done for me. My husband rushed her to this hospital after she hemorrhaged at home leaving what looked like Carrie’s Prom Night all throughout our home. I previously worked for CVS in Charlotte and witnessed mean girl culture and awful things done to animals by the technicians which included hitting, harmful restraint, and cursing while they were in pain or unable to “sit still”. The manager ant my CVS even told me horrible things about this Blue Pearl of Lake Norman and tore them down after she worked for them when I showed interest in them. I eventually subjected this to her being the “mean girl” and the problem especially after the competent wonderful care MJ received here. After leaving CVS and other previous encounters at another hospital in my previous state as a tech, I was scarred for life when it came to trusting another veterinary facility and left the industry completely. This hospital has restored my faith. I was certain they were going to have to hospitalize her and thought the worst. Dr. Perino and her staff gave a prompt initial triage and yes the wait was long but that is just standard in this field. They are understaffed everywhere. MJ snapped at one of the techs which left us in shock because as a happy go lucky lab she’s never done that. She was in obvious discomfort. I’m grateful they offered sedation for her blood draw and X-rays. It saved her from an uncomfortable restraint and made for a much more positive experience for her. It was also safer for the techs given her nippy-ness. If a vet recommends sedation for such procedures it’s for a reason. Go with it! They got her evaluated and sent her home on a great regiment for the early-onset HGE. It saved us a lot of money for the doctor having that proactive approach because if she had recommended hospitalization we would have probably sold a kidney to make it happen for her after what we saw at home. Dr. Perino allowing us to take her home and giving us a great well thought out regimen was perfect and I’m appreciative of her. I know some Blue Pearl reviews are mixed but I think this one has kept that small town hospital feel and doesn’t feel as corporate as some. I trust them completely and recommend giving them a shot. We are on day 2 after the visit and MJ is begging for food and wagging her tail. She’s on the right track. I’m also grateful they let my husband nervously watch as they took care of her. I know that can be hard on staff at times but it really helped put him at ease. Many places won’t allow it.As a side note please don’t write negative reviews for wait times at these hospitals. It’s an industry wide problem. The staff do the best they can and do appropriately triage. The wait is part of the norm now and I’d wait here for Dr. Perino to treat any of my animals again. Jun 21, 2025 · Carolina WallingWow, it was going to be a long wait but they were able to assess our dog with a recommendation so as to not wait 4-6 hours in the middle of the night to be seen by Dr in person. We walked away feeling better about our situation and thankful for their care and empathy. Shout out to Rachel for making our experience wonderful! Bodie may not have looked appreciative but I assure you he’s happy to get back home to heal.
Apr 18, 2025 · Ali SpencerI can not be more thankful that we were referred there. Dr. Joe is awesome! He explained in detail all of my dog’s bloodwork. He gave me several options and helped me decide how to proceed. Let’s not forget the wonderful staff. Scout had to spend the night and when I got there to pick him up I saw pictures of him cuddling with one of the ladies. Another worker showed me a picture of them putting a hat on him. I felt so much better knowing that he wasn’t just stuck in a cage with no human interaction. Scout is definitely feeling better after his visit. What he has may not be curable but he is enjoying life as long as he can thanks to this animal hospital. The first picture is from this morning so the staff can see he still has a little pep in his step!
