Dog Cat & Bird Clinic of Nutley Reviews
I want to start by saying that I’ve been coming to this vet for years. The staff has always been incredibly kind, knowledgeable, helpful, and I truly appreciate the care they’ve provided. However, over the past few years, my cat has struggled with severe respiratory issues—frequent sneezing fits and mucus discharge. My vet believed it was Feline Herpes, likely due to his history as a rescue who spent time outdoors. Because of this, for years, I was bringing him in every few months for what we thought were flare-ups. I take full responsibility for not pushing for further testing, but I also was never informed that there was an option.Recently, during another flare-up, I decided to take him to a different vet, whom immediately suggested doing an upper respiratory test. The results showed that he has Bordetella (B. bronchiseptica) and tested negative for Feline Herpes. He’s been suffering from this for almost six years, receiving incorrect antibiotics all this time. Also, possibly giving my other pets the same bacteria. This discovery has been heartbreaking, and after over a decade of coming here, I don’t know if I can continue bringing my pets to this office. I’m sharing this not out of anger, but in the hope that it encourages more thorough diagnostic options for other pets in the future.
Apr 02, 2025 · Nastasha RosadoCan't say enough about these guys both the doctors and the staff take care of my furry kids as if it was their own. I've had both doctors treat my animals and both times they took the time after hours to call me and follow up to put my mind at ease. I highly recommend!
Mar 16, 2025 · Joanne GroshThey should include a no star option here on yelp. But we still have to be nice to give a lone starOur beloved Cali (a female 2 and 1/2 year old yellow lab retriever passed away 5 days after a supposedly routine spay procedure by a vet in this clinic last August of 2023. Yes, it's almost 2 years now but we still feel her lost. We brought a healthy innocent dog to the clinic to give her a chance for a longer happy life and she came back home lethargic and sick. I should have not agreed with my wife to get her spayed. I've been saying no for 2 years because of the risk but I finally relented when her vet assured us that Cali is healthy enough for the procedure after pre-checkups and the vet touted her experience.Sadly, we found her on that Saturday afternoon of September 2 on our couch , like her usual nap that she does but this time it's her last breath. We thought that she just fell asleep because of the medication from her vet that was given to her that morning at this same clinic by the same vet. We tried to wake her up to put her head on a pillow but she did not even opened her eyes. My wife screamed her name but no response so we rushed her to a nearby emergency pet clinic and there they tried CPR 3x but to no avail. We were shocked and devastated. The family cried like never before that day. And I am angry at myself for not driving fast enough to the ER to save her. I realized I was unprepared for this because we were positive she'll recover after her vet assured us that same morning.Lessons learned. Before getting your dog spayed, get a second opinion from another clinic and locate the nearest pet ER that is open 24x7.Each time we drive around Nutley and passes by this clinic, it brings us back to that day , we just all sigh and whisper her name -Cali 🐾
May 31, 2025 · Victor HernandezThis place is very clean and nicely updated, but it’s very open without any sound dampening. So, my reactive rescue dog was scared and barking a lot … and it was like echoing throughout the building! Lots of tile and high ceilings are unkind to loud girls! So I had to take her outside and wait. It’s a VERY BUSY office, but it wasn’t a terrible wait. They took us in the side door to bypass the lobby. The room was clean and decent. They had tubs of precut treats like cheese! The vet was very nice and made fast friends with our sweet baby! The vet was thorough, and we discussed all of our baby’s issues, meds, vaccines, etc and came up with a game plan for the next 6 months or so. So I feel very comfortable having our fur babies come to this vet clinic!Aside from the issue with the waiting room, I will note that this vet is very pricey. But you get what you pay for (usually)! I will happily pay more for great care!Highly recommend!
Aug 27, 2024 · Pippa CurranI owe everything to this place. My older kitty Mitzi was drinking excessive amounts of water and throwing up. I brought her in to see Dr. Crupi and I'm so glad I did. She did a thorough exam and recommended further testing. She was so kind and sympathetic. Mitzi who HATES the vet, actually was purring and seemed so at ease in that office. Dr. Crupi properly diagnosed her quickly with advanced kidney disease. I was so distressed thinking I'd lose my girl. Dr. Crupi assured me that there were many treatment options and walked me through every step of the way. Mitzi made it another 2 good years until her 17th birthday. Dr. Crupi compassionately ended Mitzi's suffering. The whole office was so kind and I'll be forever grateful to this clinic. Thank you for helping me get more time with my best friend. I highly recommend everyone take their pets here. You will not regret it!
