The bond between a pet and its owner is profound, and finding a trusted veterinary professional is essential. A good clinic provides not just medical expertise but also compassion and clear communication, especially during difficult times. Douglasville Veterinary Hospital offers a range of core services that address common pet health needs, from routine care to more involved medical issues. As a local business, it is a key part of the community’s pet care network, and its performance and client relations are important factors for potential new customers to consider.
Douglasville Veterinary Hospital is located at 6220 Fairburn Rd, Douglasville, GA 30134, USA. This location makes it a convenient option for residents in Douglasville and the surrounding areas. The hospital is committed to providing a welcoming environment that is accessible to all. They feature a wheelchair accessible entrance, a wheelchair accessible parking lot, and a wheelchair accessible restroom, ensuring that all clients can easily navigate the facility.
The clinic operates on an appointments-recommended basis. This helps the staff manage their schedule and ensures that each pet receives the dedicated attention and time required. However, some reviews mention extended wait times even with an appointment, which is a consideration for clients with a tight schedule. The physical environment is an important part of the client experience. One review noted that the interior can get hot and that the lack of air conditioning was a concern, especially for those with allergies to pollen. These details are worth noting for anyone planning a visit, and it may be beneficial to call ahead and ask about the clinic's climate control, especially during warmer months.
Douglasville Veterinary Hospital offers a focused set of services for pets, providing care in key areas of animal health. Their services are designed to address common needs and help maintain a pet’s well-being.
Services Offered:
- Boarding: A service that provides a safe and supervised place for pets to stay.
- Dental Care: Essential services for maintaining a pet's oral health, which is a critical part of their overall wellness.
- Internal Medicine: Diagnosis and treatment of internal illnesses and conditions.
- Medication: Access to necessary medications, likely through their on-site veterinary pharmacy.
- Puppies & Kittens: Specialized care for young animals, including their unique needs for health and development.
While the provided information highlights these specific services, it's worth noting that their scope may be more general than a larger, more specialized animal hospital. For complex or specialized medical conditions, it is always a good idea to call and confirm if they can handle your specific needs.
Public reviews for Douglasville Veterinary Hospital show a wide range of experiences, from very positive to deeply negative. It's important to consider both perspectives to get a balanced view. One positive review highlights the staff as "super friendly" and "nice enough to get us in same day since they had a cancelation," demonstrating a willingness to be accommodating. However, this same review also pointed out a "very long wait" for the doctor and issues with the building's climate control, suggesting potential inconsistencies in service delivery.
A very detailed negative review describes a devastating experience involving the loss of a pet, a lack of urgency in a serious situation, and repeated administrative mistakes, including incorrect spelling of the pet's name on memorial items. This review highlights significant issues with communication, empathy, and professionalism during a very difficult time for the pet owner. This is an important consideration, as the clinic’s response to this situation, as described by the customer, was not seen as compassionate or helpful. The review also touches on the issue of racial bias, which is a very serious concern.
Features and Highlights:
- Friendly Staff: Several reviews mention the staff as being nice and friendly.
- Accommodating: Some clients have been able to get same-day appointments due to cancellations.
- On-Site Pharmacy: The presence of a veterinary pharmacy is a convenience for clients needing immediate medication.
- Accessibility: The hospital has accessible features, including a wheelchair ramp, parking, and a restroom.
It is important for potential clients to weigh these highlights against the negative feedback. The described issues with communication, wait times, and administrative errors, particularly in emotionally charged situations, are significant factors to consider when choosing a vet for your beloved pet. A good vet-client relationship is built on trust, and these reviews suggest that trust may be a key concern for some.

What is Worth Choosing Douglasville Veterinary Hospital?
For residents of Douglasville, Georgia, Douglasville Veterinary Hospital offers a convenient location for routine pet care, with a friendly staff that is willing to be accommodating with scheduling. The hospital's on-site pharmacy is a benefit for those who need immediate access to their pet’s medications. For simple, day-to-day pet health needs, the clinic's services may be sufficient, and its accessibility features are a definite plus.
However, the highly critical reviews about the clinic's handling of serious situations and administrative errors should not be ignored. The lack of urgency and compassion described during a pet's emergency and the repeated mistakes with a cremation service are significant red flags. While some clients have had positive experiences, others have faced devastating challenges. When choosing a veterinary clinic, it is crucial to consider how they handle both routine care and difficult situations. Prospective clients should take the time to have a direct, in-depth conversation with the clinic to ensure that their specific needs and expectations for communication and care can be met.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I would not recommend this veterinary clinic to anyone. My dog, Shilo, ran away and came back pregnant. On May 25th, she gave birth. On May 26th, I contacted the clinic to have both Shilo and her newborn puppy seen, they were closed for the holiday. I called again on Tuesday and explained the urgency of the situation. I requested that they be seen the same day, but the person on the phone said the earliest available appointment was Thursday and assured me they would be okay. When I brought them in on Thursday, May 29th, I was informed that Shilo was very sick and that euthanasia was the recommended option. Shilo was put to sleep that day.I was told it would take a week and a half to receive her remains. I picked them up on June 9th and was deeply upset to find that her name was spelled incorrectly on everything—her urn, paw print, and cremation certificate. The clinic told me I would be refunded for the cremation fee and that while the paw print could not be corrected, the urn and certificate could be. On June 16th, I picked up the “corrected” urn and certificate—only to find that her name was still spelled incorrectly on the certificate. Today is June 19th, and I finally received the corrected certificate.Attached below is proof of the incorrect spellings. This experience was devastating and completely avoidable. At one of the most heartbreaking times of my life, this clinic showed a lack of urgency, compassion, and professionalism.UpdateI want to make it very clear that I was never hostile toward the staff. I was grieving and in tears over the devastating loss of my dog, and the repeated mistakes made only added to that pain — but at no point did I have a verbal outburst. I also never stated that I would not return to the clinic. The claim that I was told I could not come back is completely false. On June 18th, I received a text stating that Shilo’s corrected certificate was ready for pickup, and at no time was I informed that I was no longer welcome. On Thursday, June 19th, my fiancé picked up the certificate on my behalf because emotionally, it was too difficult for me to keep going back to that place after everything that happened.Douglasville Veterinary Hospital has shown absolutely no compassion throughout this experience. Their continued mishandling of my dog’s remains and their false narrative about my behavior are both deeply offensive and unacceptable. Their response is not only dishonest — it’s cruel. And it needs to be said: when Black people express grief, frustration, or anything outside of being cheerful or quiet, we are too often labeled as aggressive or threatening. That kind of racial bias is harmful and dehumanizing. I was a heartbroken pet owner seeking care, and instead, I was met with carelessness, lies, and a complete lack of empathy
June 24 · Keema wilsonWe are currently here. I have to say it’s hot in this building and the windows are open in the rooms when it’s full of pollen outside and I’m allergic to pollen and currently sick because of it. Not happy no AC is running to keep the building cool and letting all the pollen inside the building. My cats appt was at 4 today and it’s 4:52pm now and still waiting on the dr to come in. That’s a very long wait. The staff is super friendly and was nice enough to get us in same day since they had a cancelation. But the wait time is crazy for the dr and not impressed with no ac running. It’s hot in here. Please fix these issues.
March 25 · Meagan KerrI took my kitten Dennis for his first vacs yesterday and the staff was extremely sweet and helpful. I had all my questions answered and I look forward to coming back for all his medical needs. 10/10 recommend this location.
June 17 · Katie GuestStanley, my oldest cat, developed a respitory infection and Dr. McGuffee and Summer saw him. They were caring and I was impressed with their compassion and gentle handling of Stanley. He's 19 years old and responded so very well to them. DVH has been caring for my pets for over 30 years. I trust them completely and would totally recommend them for providing the very best in pet care.
March 07 · Steve PachecoAfter over a year of bringing my dogs here, I’ve realized what this clinic truly excels at: poor service, dishonest records, and complete disregard for animal welfare — all wrapped in attitude, courtesy of office manager Nicky and Dr. Latasha McCracken.Nicky’s version of “customer service” involves talking over clients, refusing to listen, and labeling grieving pet owners as “aggressive” for daring to show emotion. Let’s be clear: I wasn’t yelling in the lobby — I was speaking quietly with another client who, unsurprisingly, had the same kind of awful experience. But hey, rewriting the truth is easier than owning your behavior, right? Now for Dr. Latasha McCracken: She not only did the bare minimum during a “physical exam” (which cost over $100), but also entered false information into my dog’s chart and billed me for a urine test that was never ordered or performed. She told me it would take 35–45 minutes just to read my dog’s chart, and failed to notice a visible ear infection and a shaking leg I pointed out. This isn’t just incompetence — this is gross negligence.Speaking of negligence: I finally received my dog’s bloodwork results which show dangerously high levels in multiple values that clearly require immediate attention. And yet — not one phone call. It’s been two full days, and no one has contacted me to explain or take action. This is not just careless; it’s life-threatening, and I will be pursuing legal action for malpractice. You are literally risking my dog’s life. The tragedy is, there are a few genuinely kind and capable staff here — people who should be running the front office instead of Nicky, who acts like clients are an inconvenience. A change in management could actually save this place, but until then?If you enjoy being lied to, ignored, overcharged, and watching your pet’s life be treated like an afterthought, this is the clinic for you.Everyone else? Run. Your pet’s life might depend on it.
