Forest City Animal Hospital presents a mixed picture in terms of client experiences, with some strong positives and notable concerns highlighted in customer reviews. Understanding these varying perspectives is important for locals when considering their options for pet care.
Features / Highlights (based on customer reviews):
Compassionate and Friendly Staff for Routine Care:
Positive reviews frequently commend the staff and the doctor for their kindness and gentle handling of pets during routine visits. One client stated, "They are the best and friendliest around. They treated my fur baby so sweet. Talk to her and treated her with care. The doctor is the sweetest person she truly loves your babies." This suggests a genuinely caring approach for standard appointments like vaccinations and check-ups.
Affordable Prices for Routine Services:
While not explicitly mentioned in the provided snippet, other publicly available information suggests that Forest City Animal Hospital aims to offer pet care services at "affordable prices," including spay/neuter, dental, and vaccinations. This can be a significant draw for pet owners seeking cost-effective care for preventative measures.
Concerns Regarding Emergency/Sick Pet Care:
A significant concern highlighted in a negative review is the perceived reluctance of the hospital to see sick or emergency cases. The reviewer states, "If you have a sick animal, they tell you take them somewhere else. For flea treatment and shots...NO PROBLEM! Have a sick pet and suddenly, 'They have no openings,' or no 'Vet' in to see them!" The client recounts being advised to take their sick Yorkie or cat to other cities like Shelby or Gastonia, expressing frustration that the hospital "just DO NOT want responsibility for nothing serious!!!" This suggests a potential limitation in their capacity or policy for handling urgent or complex medical situations. It's crucial for pet owners to understand these limitations, especially for critical needs.
Focus on Routine and Preventative Services:
Based on the contrasting reviews, it appears the hospital excels at providing routine care, vaccinations, and perhaps minor treatments, where the staff's friendly and caring nature truly shines. However, for more serious or acute illnesses, clients might need to consider alternative arrangements or confirm the hospital's capacity for such cases in advance.
Dedicated DVM Ownership:
The hospital is owned and operated by Pam Poteat, DVM, indicating that the practice is led by a qualified and experienced veterinary professional.

Feb 11, 2025 · MxBuggThis is the worst vet I have ever been too. If you have a sick animal, they tell you take them somewhere else. For flea treatment and shots...NO PROBLEM! Have a sick pet and suddenly, "They have no openings," or no "Vet" in to see them! Take them to Shelby, or Gastonia! At first I thought this Vet would be a good place. But 3 times now, when I had one come up sick, this is what they do! I'm seeking care else where and advise you to do the same. Horrible!!! I have never not paid in full at service or ask for a payment plan, never! And my Yorkie gets sick and they don't have anyone in to see emergency cases. My cat got sick and they said take him to Shelby! They just DO NOT want responsibility for nothing serious!!! Do Not Go Here!!!
Feb 28, 2025 · Vikki HouserPam is a great Veterinarian. She is so knowledgeable and gentle with our dogs. We've been bringing our pets to her for many years. When we first rescued our dog Suzie she was so weak and sick and weighed only 19 ounces. Pam advised that she needed to do some tests on her which would take 4 -5 hours. I was so reluctant to leave her because she was so little and so sick. Pam'smom works at the hospital and she reassured me that she would take good care of Suzie and would call me the minute she was done. I left , but after 4 hours I couldn't stand being away and returned . Suzie's testing wasn't done, but when I walked in there was Suzie . Pam's mom was holding her . I asked her if she had held her the whole time and she said that she had, except when they were working on her.She said " I told you I would take care ofyour baby" . That level of care and compassion is what sets this office apart. They're wonderful!
May 11, 2024 · Laura FallsDr. Pam and her staff are amazing. Took time out of her day to speak with me on phone for a good 20 min about heart worm and how dog gets them etc. Cholee absolutely loves going there. Dr. Pam will always be her Dr. can’t find a better Dr. and her prices are reasonable. I 1000% recommend her!!!
Sep 09, 2024 · Leisa (bobhasnuggets_)My boy's Ace and Zeke love it. And I do to. It's clean and everyone is so nice and listen to what you have to say and not just hear what they want to like some vets I've been to.
