Hanover Animal Hospital Reviews
I have been bringing my pets to HAH for over 10 years now. In fact, I used to work there several years ago. I normally would have nothing but good things to say about HAH. That is until, I heard they have been bought out by a larger company. Ever since the new ownership, things have changed. I used to recognize and trust all of the vets, techs, and receptionists. Now I don’t know anyone and have no idea if they are as a knowledgeable and compassionate as the previous staff. My last few visits I’ve seen less faces I recognize and new people every time. This could be fine, if it were not for the other negative changes. The prices have slowly been increased, to the point that they are charging well over 50% more than they used to, and 100% increases on some services. They are charging well over what other local vets in the area are charging. They will try to blame the price hikes on inflation but I’ve heard directly from their staff that the price increases are a direct result of the new ownership. I finally hit my final straw when they charged me over $400 for a simple ear infection and supplemental vaccines, not even the full vaccine work up. This visit should have reasonably cost $250 maximum. If anything had been mentioned to me about the high cost of certain unnecessary tests, or I hadn’t been pressured to accept vaccines my dog didn’t need beforehand, I would have declined many of the services, but in an unethical manner they did not disclose any of the cost beforehand. They also have no payment arrangements available regardless of circumstance and all payment is required at the time of service. I am obviously moving my pets to a locally owned vet with a conscious.
Jul 01, 2025 · Katie CarnsThis place is the best. We have been coming here since we moved to the area in 2020, and they feel like family to us now. They’re great with both our dog and our cat, but most of all they just make it easy to take our animals there. They work us in when we have a sick dog and they have a cancellation, they are affordable, and they never push anything at us. Carrie and Rebecca in the front office are the best, and the doctors and techs are so kind and loving to the animals. If I lived 2 hours away, I’d still come here.
Jul 06, 2024 · David Brodeur-JohnsonI have been going to this bet for several years now, amazing service and a great price! If your pet in need of medical assistance than this is your vet! I would highly recommend this veterinarian!
Jun 20, 2017 · Zach AlamI took my 15 week old english bulldog puppy in for a visit as he needed remainder of his shots and a check up. The staff worked with me to ensure my pup got exactly what he needed. Everyone on staff was amazing, knowledgable, and personable. So happy to have found a vet for my boy. He received so much love while there and anyone looking for a place to take their animals...THIS IS IT!
May 09, 2024 · Ben MagnaniLet me preface this review by stating this is based strictly on my experience. My dog became ill on 5/6/24. I wasn’t able to get an appointment with my primary vet; so I called to see if they would see me. The staff were very accommodating and able to work me in same day which was great. They performed an exam, X-rays, and bloodwork for about $500 and informed us they feared there may be a foreign object lodged in the abdomen. So they gave fluids and advised we come back in the am to see if anything would pass overnight (it didn’t).We came back the next day for drop off and later received a call from the “surgeon” who talked us through what they were thinking needed to be done etc etc. we agreed, believing this exploratory surgery would find the issue. Surgery completed @ a cost of $2,700 (sent home on antibiotics) and we were told some fabric material was removed from the colon but it wasn’t saved for us to see. The communication was good, and we brought our dog home to begin recovery.Fast forward several days and no improvements…so we bring him back for a third drop off on 5/13. Unfortunately, this is where communication starts to drop off. We had to call about 15 minutes before the close of business to find out if our pet was being kept or we needed to pick him up. Keep in mind this is only our third visit. When we asked, we were emphatically told “we don’t keep animals overnight, you must pick up”. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have a call earlier in the day with this being only our third visit. After paying another $450 bill We talked with the vet who indicated that it still feels like something in the abdomen… this is a bit alarming considering surgery was just completed to remove an object or so we thought. Mind you our dog hasn’t eaten for over a week now at this point. Since they don’t keep pets overnight we go home and are instructed to bring him back in the morning for further observation.Later that evening, based on our own concerns we decide to take our dog to BetterPet Urgent Care which turns out to be the best decision. Great people and they seem to really care. As we are checking in there are numerous questions such as “why did they prescribe antibiotics?; why did they do an enima?” Which raised a few concerns and some questions of our own. We met with the BetterPet Vet who within an hour was able X-ray, do bloodwork, and an exam and advise that if it was her dog she would go to an emergency vet to get an ultrasound as she believed there was a foreign object in the abdomen and a second surgery was needed. So, they called for us and we went and our dog successfully had a second surgery removing a cat toy he had chewed.I’m leaving three stars as neutral rating because I want to believe this vet practice had the best intentions but it feels like they should have suggested an ultrasound in the first place instead of multiple visits, a surgery that possibly could have been avoided (or corrected the issue the first time) and me being out an additional $3,600 (on top of the emergency vet surgery). Communication was good at first but dropped off at the end. I’d recommend going here for basic and/or routine services but anything requiring more expertise you’re better off at another place or BetterPet Urgent Care. In fact, I can’t recommend BetterPet enough. Frankly, the cost was the less than what Hanover Animal charged me for the same services…They’ve also already called twice to check on our dog who they spent an hour with whereas we haven’t heard anything from this Hanover Animal.
