This location places the clinic within a bustling and easily accessible area of Charlotte, making it a practical choice for pet owners across various neighborhoods. Rea Road is a well-trafficked thoroughfare, ensuring that the clinic is straightforward to find for both local residents and those coming from further afield in Mecklenburg County. The area typically offers ample parking, which is a significant convenience for pet owners, especially when transporting animals for appointments. Its situation within a commercial hub means it's often close to other amenities, allowing pet owners to combine their veterinary visits with other errands. While the specific Blakeney location mentioned in one review might refer to a different Banfield branch, the Rea Road location itself aims to provide a similar level of accessibility and service for the Charlotte community. The ease of access helps ensure that routine preventative care is less of a logistical challenge, encouraging regular veterinary visits for maintaining your pet's health.
Banfield Pet Hospital offers a range of services primarily focused on proactive and preventative pet healthcare. Their approach is structured to support the ongoing wellness of pets, from their early years through their senior life stages. Here’s a breakdown of the typical services you can expect:
- Optimum Wellness Plans®: This is a core offering of Banfield. These plans are comprehensive packages designed to cover the costs of routine preventative care. They typically include scheduled examinations, vaccinations, fecal exams, and potentially other services like professional dental cleanings or discounted services. These plans aim to make preventative care more affordable and predictable for pet owners, encouraging regular veterinary visits to catch potential issues early.
- Preventative and Routine Care: Beyond the wellness plans, Banfield provides essential preventative services such as annual physical examinations, routine vaccinations for common diseases (e.g., rabies, distemper, parvovirus), and parasite control programs (including for fleas, ticks, and heartworms). Nutritional counseling and weight management support are also often part of their routine care.
- Dental Care: A significant component of preventative health, Banfield typically offers professional dental cleanings (scaling and polishing) to maintain oral hygiene and prevent periodontal disease. These services are often included or discounted within their wellness plans.
- Microchipping: A crucial service for pet safety, microchipping provides permanent identification, greatly increasing the chances of reuniting with a lost pet.
- Diagnostic Services (Basic): For common health concerns, Banfield clinics often have in-house capabilities for basic diagnostic tests such as blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams. This allows for quick insights into a pet's internal health. For more complex diagnostics or specialized procedures, they may refer to external facilities or specialists.
- Behavioral and Nutritional Counseling: They can provide guidance on common behavioral issues and offer advice on appropriate nutrition to ensure your pet maintains a healthy diet and lifestyle.
- Surgical Procedures (Limited): While their primary focus is on preventative care, some Banfield locations may offer common elective surgical procedures such as spaying and neutering. More complex surgeries or emergency procedures might require referral to a specialized veterinary surgeon or emergency clinic.
Banfield Pet Hospital, including its Charlotte location, has several features and highlights that are often noted by pet owners, though experiences can vary as mentioned in customer feedback:
- Structured Wellness Plans: The Optimum Wellness Plans are a significant draw for many pet owners, providing a budgeted approach to preventative care and potentially offering cost savings on routine services like vaccinations and dental cleanings. This predictability can be a major benefit for managing pet health expenses.
- Nationwide Network: Being part of a large national chain means that medical records can often be accessed at different Banfield locations across the country, which can be convenient for pet owners who travel or relocate within the Banfield network.
- Extended Hours (at some locations): Many Banfield clinics aim to offer more expansive operating hours compared to some independent practices, potentially including evenings and weekends, which can be helpful for busy North Carolina families.
- Focus on Preventative Health: A strong emphasis on preventative medicine helps pet owners stay proactive about their pets' health, aiming to prevent serious issues before they arise through regular check-ups and screenings.
- Online Tools and Resources: Banfield typically provides online portals and resources for clients to manage appointments, access pet records, and learn more about pet health, enhancing convenience for digital-savvy pet owners.

Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
I use to be a big proponent of Banfield Pet Hospital. The past 4 years their service has declined. Vetinerian availability hast been inconsistent, they have unannounced office closures at the location I go to.The Vet techs and front desk staff haven't been the most friendly and alson their ability to follow through on what they say they will do leaves a lot to be desired.I will add that the Wellness plans are helpful for non emergency situations such as vaccination, dental cleaning and maintenance. Other than that I currently haven't had much of a positive experience.I would hope that staff is being supported to make the workplace environment more conducive to the service industry care level it seems specially if you are going through difficulty with a Fur Baby loved one.
Jul 03, 2025 · Silvana AlfonsoI've been with Banfield for over 20 years - 10+ years with the Blakeney location. That said, I've seen many changes over the years with the staff. Up until recently, everyone there has been very caring and trustworthy - which is what it should be with your Veterinarian (just like your Primary Doctor). I have 6 dogs so they all know me and each of my babies very well. Unfortunately, the experience I had today with the front desk associate was unacceptable, unprofessional and unpleasant. From the attitude of the greeting (seemed very put out, like the employee didn't want to be there) to being argued with about the appointment time and which dog was there, to being told I had an attitude, then shown to my room and having the door slammed as the employee walked out when I asked to speak with the office manager. I then overheard the employee complaining about me in the back - again unprofessional to say the least. I strongly considered cancelling both of the appointments and moving to the Rea Farm Banfield, however, the Vet came to see me. She mentioned that when the employee was in the back complaining that the other staff members were very surprised when they found out who she was complaining about! After I had returned home and told my Husband about the incident, he told me he had a similar experience with the same individual a week ago when he took one of our other dogs for an 10 AM appointment. He arrived 5 minutes early. The employee was at the desk and never acknowledged him. So he told her he was there for the 10 AM appointment and her reply was "We're not open yet" and turned away. He was taken back by her attitude and response and told her that it wasn't a problem and that he'd wait. Absolutely unacceptable in a customer interfacing position. She could have simply said something along the lines of 'we'll get you checked in just give me a moment to get logged in'. I certainly hope Banfield does something about this. I don't want to let one bad egg ruin it for the rest of the team, but it will not be easy to continue my service there if this is what I have to deal with each time. Bring Rhonda back - she was absolutely amazing!!!!
