Banfield Pet Hospital offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services, with a strong emphasis on proactive and preventative care designed to support the ongoing health of pets throughout their lives. Their service model is structured to provide consistent and accessible healthcare. Here’s a detailed look at the types of services typically offered:
- Optimum Wellness Plans®: These are a signature offering from Banfield. These wellness plans are designed as comprehensive packages that cover the costs of routine preventative veterinary care. They typically include scheduled physical examinations, core vaccinations, diagnostic fecal exams, and often include or discount other services such as professional dental cleanings. The aim of these plans is to make preventative care more financially manageable and predictable for pet owners, encouraging consistent veterinary visits to facilitate early detection and intervention for potential health issues.
- Preventative and Routine Care: Beyond the wellness plans, Banfield provides essential preventative services, including thorough annual physical examinations, a full range of routine vaccinations to protect against common and prevalent diseases (e.g., Rabies, Distemper/Parvovirus (DHPP) for dogs, FVRCP for cats), and comprehensive parasite control programs (covering fleas, ticks, and heartworms). Nutritional counseling and guidance on weight management are also integral parts of their routine care, promoting overall pet health.
- Dental Care: A crucial aspect of a pet’s overall health, Banfield offers professional dental cleanings (which involve scaling and polishing) to maintain oral hygiene and prevent the onset and progression of periodontal disease. These services are frequently included or offered at a reduced rate within their wellness plans.
- Microchipping Services: As a vital safety measure, microchipping provides permanent identification for your pet, significantly enhancing the chances of a successful reunion if they ever become lost. This simple, quick procedure offers invaluable peace of mind.
- Basic Diagnostic Services: For common health concerns and routine screenings, Banfield clinics are typically equipped with in-house capabilities for basic diagnostic tests, including blood work, urinalysis, and fecal exams. These tests provide quick insights into a pet's internal health status. For more complex diagnostic needs or specialized treatments, referrals to external specialist facilities may be arranged.
- Behavioral and Nutritional Counseling: The clinic can provide professional advice and strategies for addressing common behavioral issues in pets. They also offer guidance on appropriate nutrition to ensure your pet maintains a healthy and balanced diet, supporting their overall well-being.
- Surgical Procedures (Elective): While their primary focus is on preventative and general care, many Banfield locations are equipped to perform common elective surgical procedures such as spaying and neutering. More intricate surgeries or emergency procedures typically require referral to a specialized veterinary surgeon or a dedicated emergency veterinary hospital.
Banfield Pet Hospital, including its Charlotte location, possesses several notable features and highlights that often attract and benefit pet owners, though individual experiences may vary as suggested by customer feedback:
- Structured Wellness Plans: The Optimum Wellness Plans are a significant selling point, providing a clear and often cost-effective method for budgeting routine veterinary care. This predictability can greatly assist pet owners in managing their pet's health expenditures for vaccinations, regular check-ups, and dental cleanings.
- Extensive Nationwide Network: Being a part of a large national chain offers a distinct advantage: medical records are typically accessible across different Banfield locations throughout the country. This is highly convenient for pet owners who travel frequently or undergo relocation, ensuring continuity of care.
- Convenient Hours: Many Banfield clinics aim to offer more expansive operating hours compared to some independent practices, often including evening and weekend appointments. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for busy North Carolina families with demanding schedules.
- Emphasis on Preventative Care: There is a strong organizational focus on preventative medicine. This approach encourages pet owners to be proactive about their pets' health, aiming to detect and prevent serious health issues before they escalate, often through regular screenings and check-ups.
- Digital Accessibility: Banfield typically provides user-friendly online portals and digital resources that allow clients to easily manage appointments, access their pet's medical records, and gain valuable information about various pet health topics, enhancing overall client convenience.

Banfield Pet Hospital Reviews
I have been bringing my dog to this Banfield from his very first visit as a puppy all the way till now as 5 year old dog. I will now have to cut ties with this vet and move on after my last go around with them. I submitted for a prescription through chewy earlier this year and was told his regular veterinarian was no longer employed at the location so he would need to come in for a visit to establish a vet/patient relationship. I had no problem with that due to him needing shots anyway but was another few hundred dollar visit. Fast forward to last week and I submitted another chewy prescription and wouldn't you know another phone call saying the same thing, the veterinarian is no longer employed at this location and would need another visit to establish the relationship. This time my dog is not due for anything due to being in just a few months ago and was told over the phone it would be a quick 5 minute in and out just to have my dog seen and be on record. The employee on the phone even said "well he isn't due for anything so we can just bring him in to be seen real quick." Fast forward to the day of the visit and my wife is brought back to an exam room and my dog was in the back for over 30 minutes and we were then charged $70 for a office visit. None of that was communicated over the phone. So a $200 prescription is now $270. I have spent thousands of dollars at this location between visits, exams, wellness plans, and medicines. I feel like I got taken advantage of and when I called in to voice my concern I was told "oh sorry you were told that, all visits get charged the office visit fee." I feel scammed as a long time customer and will not be returning.
Jun 17, 2025 · Nick HudsonI’ve been a Banfield client for a while, but unfortunately, the experience continues to decline. I recently came in to drop off my two dogs, and from the moment we walked in, there was no greeting or acknowledgment from the staff—no “good morning,” no eye contact, nothing. We were taken into a room where they promptly removed the dogs, then moved me to another room to complete the intake process. The entire interaction felt cold and impersonal, with zero effort to engage or make the experience feel welcoming. At this point, I’ll be looking to switch to a smaller, more attentive veterinary clinic that values a more personal connection with both pets and their owners.
Jul 05, 2025 · Sofia BennaniI’m very suspicious of my visit. They want to upsell you and make you buy all these things and plans which I get but then treatment slightly changed when turned down. I said my dog would want me there for blood drawn they disappeared w him came back said he fought it when I clearly said before hand he will want me there. Went there for vaccines and they said nothing about side effects and my puppy just doesn’t feel good and when I called to ask if this is normal it was like dragging the information out of whoever answered with no respect that I’m scared and worried about my dog and my best friend. I will keep this post updated if he feels better but I definitely don’t trust the process and would recommend being in the same room as your dog to witness everything even if they say no. They want your money they’ll take you in w him
May 23, 2025 · youssef kelaniLove this location, second visit with second dog. Awesome front desk staff that is warm and friendly and clearly animal lovers. Didn’t meet the vet, but she called with a report of her findings and review of my dogs comprehensive assessment. Talked at length and she answered questions patiently and didn’t rush me off the phone. Super convenient location too, much easier than having to navigate through a pet store with anxious pets that know they are on the way to a visit at the vet!
Sep 13, 2024 · amy homburgerBeen going here for a few years and it’s going downhill. Service is getting worse, front desk staff is NOT friendly.Lack of communication is what left me toleave this poor review due to a service I had done on my dog last week. I personally like to know what happened after a surgery and have it broken down, considering it’s my dog. That wasn’t done, it’s like pulling teeth to get an explanation. 2 stars cause I mean, it gets the job done, but I would definitely not recommend this place anymore..
