- Fear-Free Certified Practice: This is a cornerstone of their philosophy. The entire hospital and its staff are trained to minimize fear, anxiety, and stress (FAS) during veterinary visits. This involves using gentle handling, calming pheromones, positive reinforcement, and allowing pets to approach on their own terms, even getting on the floor to build rapport. This creates a much less stressful experience for pets and owners alike.
- Integrative and Holistic Approach: They expertly combine conventional Western medicine (e.g., advanced surgery, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals) with a wide array of alternative therapies (e.g., acupuncture, herbal medicine, laser therapy, chiropractic, rehabilitation). This allows for highly personalized and often more effective treatment plans, especially for chronic or complex conditions.
- Exceptional and Compassionate Staff: Reviews consistently highlight the brilliant receptionists (like Katie and Vanessa), kind technicians, and empathetic veterinarians (such as Dr. Khare and Dr. Benitez at affiliated locations). The staff's genuine care and willingness to go the extra mile, like not forcing a dog onto a scale, create a welcoming and trustworthy environment.
- Problem-Solving and Thoroughness: Customers rave about the clinic's ability to diagnose and treat issues that other vets couldn't resolve, indicating a deep level of diagnostic skill and persistence. They focus on finding the root cause rather than just treating symptoms.
- Emphasis on Patient Comfort and Well-being: Beyond medical treatment, the clinic prioritizes the emotional comfort of pets, ensuring that visits are as positive as possible, leading to pets who are "never scared to go to the vet now!"
- Wide Range of Specialties and Advanced Procedures: The ability to perform advanced surgeries like TPLO in-house (or via referral to their other locations) and offer various therapies before immediately resorting to pharmaceuticals/surgery sets them apart as a facility committed to comprehensive and diverse care options.

Whole Pet Veterinary Hospital - South Charlotte Reviews
Our favorite vet ever. We started coming here after our dog had an infection for 4 months that the previous vet could not clear up. One visit to Whole Pet and she was all fixed up. They’ve taken great care of her this year, including TPLO with Dr Benitez at the Davidson location and water treadmill therapy at Mtn Island. We’ve done acupuncture and red light therapy. I love that we can try other therapies before going right to pharmaceuticals/surgery.
Jan 02, 2025 · Jessica ManglicmotAMAZING service! Katie and Vanessa are brilliant receptionists and help the vets provide top notch service. My dog is never scared to go to the vet now! They’re certified fear-free: as in, they’ll get on the floor to help build rapport with your pet. I see Dr Khare and my dog loves her. Please consider coming here, you won’t regret it! I bring my dog in for a weigh-in every 6 months and they are so kind and don’t force my dog on the scale, they let her sniff then walk on on her own. PLEASE consider Whole Pet as your new vet!!!!
Feb 11, 2025 · Katharine BurkartI took my cat, Merlin, to Whole Pet for the first time yesterday after hearing “ good things” from three friends. I visited on my own a few weeks ago to get a feel for the practice. During that visit Vanessa welcomed me and took the time to show me around and answer all my questions. First impressions make a difference, and she is wonderful.I love the space in the bright, cheerful entrance area and the fact that I was immediately shown into a room with Merlin without a wait.Yesterday we visited with Dr. Laura who was so warm and friendly. She listened to me, as did her vet tech, and took the time to answer any questions and discuss the different forms of medicine Merlin could take. She reassured me that if this didn’t work we could try something else.I was very impressed with out visit yesterday and my two cats will be regular patients going forward.🐱🐱❤️
Oct 15, 2024 · Peta CornerI can’t express my gratitude for Whole Pet enough. I had to take my ferret to the emergency vet and the next morning he was doing worse. I called over 10 different veterinary offices and they were the only one who could work me in early in the day. Since then they have been extremely flexible with scheduling 3 more appointments, and incredibly kind and knowledgeable, making sure I’ve been informed throughout the entire process and presented with all of my options. Dr Laura was even very transparent with me that she didn’t feel comfortable doing a particular procedure that we discussed because of the potential risks due to my ferret’s small size. Instead, she referred me to a colleague who was experienced with that procedure. She even called me after hours to touch base with me. They were able to put my worries at ease, and my little guy is feeling better. A massive thank you to Dr Laura and the entire staff ❤️
Oct 14, 2024 · AnnaGrace O'BrienI have not had a long relationship with whole pet but if you look up Sun City Animal hospital you'll see my relating review on them and the reason why i'm posting this one.Dr.Lathan and crew from the FIRST appointment have been so sweet and attentive and focused on the well being of my cat Jackson. I came from a different Vet which i had expressed concern for almost a year to, about the lump over my cats eye(That was continuing to grow). The other vet, appointment after appointment brushed my concerns off.."Probably a stuck whisker." "More than likely nothing concerning" "Ingrown Hair" Would Not Test the mass, but Whole pet was on the ball the second i stated i was concerned. Dr.Latham gave the vibe of "If you're concerned then so am i and lets figure it out" and that was a weight off my shoulders. Turned out to be a Mast Cell Tumor, Whole pet removed the mass over my cats eye beautifully after giving me the choice to consult with an eye specialist or come to them (Choices, cause yes). Obviously i chose Whole Pet, and i'm so glad i did, turns out that the little Mast Cell Tumor was Malignant. For the sake of length on this review i'll just put it this way. I'll take Dr.Lathan and her crew any day. Thank you Dr.Lathan and crew, u rock.
