The Humane Society Silicon Valley has a long and storied history, operating continuously since 1929. Their mission is expansive: to save lives, keep families together, and create a better future for pets and their people. They envision a world where all animals can thrive, where all people experience the magic of the human-animal bond, and where all families are able to care for their pets. This vision drives their multifaceted approach, which includes vital programs to prevent unwanted births, treat and rehabilitate homeless animals, find loving homes, help keep pets with their families, and educate the public on responsible pet care. The HSSV Medical Center is a crucial component of this mission, not only caring for the animals within their shelter but also extending vital services to the public, particularly those facing financial hardship. They are recognized as an innovative leader in animal rescue and are committed to elevating the standard of shelter medicine, ensuring that every animal in their care receives top-tier medical attention.

The Humane Society Silicon Valley Medical Center offers a diverse range of services, primarily focused on animal welfare, adoption, and essential, affordable veterinary care for the public.
Pet Adoptions: A core service where rescued, abandoned, and surrendered companion animals (dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, etc.) are adopted into new, loving homes. This includes extensive behavioral assistance and medical treatment to prepare animals for adoption.
Essential Care Clinic: Provides physical exams and treatments for common illnesses and injuries in cats and dogs for financially struggling pet owners. These appointments often include vaccines, dewormer, flea/tick treatment, and microchips if needed. This service helps keep pets in their homes rather than being surrendered due to treatable conditions.
Spay/Neuter Services: Offers low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for the general public, and sometimes free services for pets residing in specific targeted zip codes, or for community (free-roaming) cats (often including ear tipping). This is a critical service for preventing pet overpopulation.
Vaccinations and Microchipping: Provides essential preventative care through accessible vaccination clinics and microchip implantation, helping to protect pets and reunite lost animals with their families.
Pet Pantry Program: Supports bonded families experiencing financial hardship by providing free pet food, helping to prevent pet surrenders due to economic constraints.
Regional Rescue Program: Collaborates with under-resourced shelters across California and nationwide to rescue at-risk animals and provide them with necessary medical care and behavioral support.
Behavior and Training Programs: Offers behavioral assistance for pets to help prevent surrenders, including training classes for dogs and resources for common behavioral issues in cats.
Foster Programs: A robust program that allows animals, especially those needing extra time or a quiet recovery place, to stay in foster homes until they are ready for adoption.
Humane Education Programs: Provides educational programs for children and adults of all ages, promoting responsible pet ownership and compassion for animals within the community.
Lost/Found Pet Program: Assists in reuniting lost pets with their owners through various initiatives and resources.
Owner Surrender Services: Offers guidance and support for individuals who, despite their best efforts, need to surrender a pet.
The Humane Society Silicon Valley Medical Center stands out for several remarkable features that highlight its dedication to animal welfare and community support:

Accessible and Affordable Veterinary Care: Through their Essential Care Clinic and targeted spay/neuter programs, HSSV provides vital veterinary services at accessible prices for low-income pet owners. This initiative helps prevent pets from entering the shelter system due to financial barriers to care, demonstrating their commitment to "keeping families together."
Community-Centric Approach: HSSV's programs extend beyond the typical shelter model. Their Pet Pantry provides food assistance, and their educational programs foster responsible pet ownership within the community. This broad community involvement makes them a comprehensive resource for pet-related needs.
Innovative Leadership in Animal Welfare: HSSV is recognized nationally for its innovative strategies in combating animal homelessness and for setting high standards in shelter medicine. They were the first in the country to meet the Association of Shelter Veterinarians' guidelines for shelter animal care.
Volunteer Engagement: The involvement of dedicated volunteers is a significant highlight, contributing immensely to the care of animals and the success of various programs, creating a strong sense of community support.

Oct 03, 2023 · Rodney WilliamsPeople here are so friendly. They all were very helpful in explaining about all the cats they have, and asked me to come more often to understand the cats better. For someone who doesn't have enough familiarity with cats, this place is purrfect!
Dec 06, 2021 · V KThey are open on weekends for walk-ins. You may have to wait a bit but there really is not a better staffed center in the Bay area. The facility is great. Adoption rates vary. Often they have specials. They also typically have puppies but they go fast. Staff is kind and helpful. We adopted two. Pickles and Olive!!
