The services at Kindred Spirits Healing Arts are a reflection of their commitment to holistic pet health. Dr. VonderHaar focuses on treating the "whole animal," integrating various healing modalities to address the root causes of health issues, rather than just the symptoms. The combination of traditional veterinary medicine with alternative therapies provides a comprehensive and effective treatment plan for a wide range of conditions. Whether your pet is dealing with a chronic issue or a sudden injury, they have a solution that is both compassionate and effective.
- Primary Care: The foundation of their practice, providing essential health services, including wellness check-ups, diagnostics, and routine medical care.
- Holistic Health: A broad approach to pet wellness that considers all aspects of an animal’s life, including diet, environment, and emotional well-being.
- Herbal Medicine: Using natural, plant-based remedies to support and heal the body. This is a gentle yet powerful alternative to traditional pharmaceuticals for many conditions.
- Laser Therapy: A non-invasive treatment that uses focused light to reduce pain, inflammation, and promote healing in injured tissues.
- Massage Therapy: A therapeutic technique used to alleviate muscle tension, improve circulation, and enhance flexibility, particularly beneficial for pets with orthopedic issues or chronic pain.
- Home Services: For pets who are too anxious to travel or for owners who prefer the comfort of their own home, this service provides a unique and convenient option.
This diverse range of services demonstrates a commitment to providing a flexible and effective treatment plan for every pet. The focus on natural and non-invasive therapies makes Kindred Spirits Healing Arts a preferred choice for owners who want to avoid aggressive medical interventions whenever possible.
What truly sets Kindred Spirits Healing Arts apart from other veterinary clinics are the special features and the compassionate, personalized experience they provide. These unique highlights contribute to the "joyful" and positive atmosphere that clients consistently praise.

Her ability to listen, understand, and form a caring bond with both pets and their owners is a major reason for the center's success. She is described as "one of the most caring and kindest" vets people have ever met.
- Calming and Zen Environment: The office is noted for its warm, calming, and "zen" atmosphere. This is a crucial feature, as it helps to reduce stress for animals that are often anxious in veterinary settings. The inviting space encourages a more relaxed and effective healing process.
- Focus on Treating the "Whole Animal": The practice's philosophy of treating the whole animal instead of just prescribing pharmaceuticals is a key distinction. This holistic approach looks at a pet's entire well-being—physical, mental, and emotional—to create a truly personalized treatment plan.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Dr. VonderHaar is the best vet I’ve ever had, and I highly recommend taking your pet to her for vet services. Kindred Spirits Healing Arts treats the whole animal, instead of just prescribing pharmaceuticals like a standard vet. It’s a perfect balance of Eastern and Western medicine, giving your pet the best of both worlds for treatment with a doctor who is compassionate, listens, and is understanding to your unique situation. My dog hurt her knee and was diagnosed right away. She received immediate treatment in the office and I took home a treatment plan with a balanced mix of medicine and healing herbs. The office is very “zen”, calming and warm, and it’s a joy to just explore the space. Don’t miss out on getting the best treatment for your four legged friend.
June 11 · Jennifer BergI can’t say enough good things!! Dr. Vonderhaar is one of the most caring and kindest vet I’ve ever met!!! She was amazing with both of my boys, and my shepherd is always weary of new people and she even won him over!!
July 11 · ElyseDr. Vonderhaar is amazing. She is very observant and a brilliant diagnostician. In addition, Kindred Spirits is very reasonably priced for the Chicago area.
August 19 · Alan SaleskiExtraordinary Integrative Vet!Dr Maria VonderHaar is a very compassionate Veterinarian ! She genuinely loves and cares for our little guy . She has been seeing our dog for 11 years. We feel completely supported every step of the way! Dr VonderHaar has often offered natural solutions. May 09 · M KahleI am a lifelong resident of the 5th Ward in Evanston. This neighborhood is not known for Veterinary services and definitely not holistic practices. I was extremely excited when I got this as one of my assignments. I told all my coworkers how valuable this was for our community and how I couldn't wait to visit this establishment. I am the Commercial Business Representative at my insurance agency. My assignment this month was to identify Animal Hospitals prior to National Pet Day on 4/11 and learn about their business to later identify their insurance needs in the future. Again, when this one came up, I was extremely excited. I decided to give away our supply of portable pet bowls and highlight this business on our Facebook page this month. The day was gloomy, but I went out anyway. I arrived around 230, I approached the door, and it was locked. No biggie, I could see the pups were out having a great time therefore I politely waited for someone to come to the door. Someone finally came to the door; she opened the door slightly (to not let the pups out I assume) I asked, " Is this an animal hospital?" I was a bit confused I must admit when I saw several dogs running around, I thought maybe this could be a kennel, either way I was invested. The women who opened the door answered before I could complete my sentence, "yes" (very rudely) I mentioned I was from (my company's name) and before I could get that out completely, she interrupted again and said " I already have that company and SLAMMED THE DOOR IN MY FACE!!!! I was completely shocked and appalled.I am born and raised in this neighborhood, a former elected official of this community, I am the associate minister at the church a block away from here, THE ALDERMAN (who is a good friend of mine) lives upstairs and this is the way you respond to your community! I have never been treated so badly or felt so disrespected by a business in my life, wholeheartedly. I want to believe it's because when people see an insurance "salesperson" they automatically assume we are trying to "sale" insurance. You still shouldn't treat someone at your place of business this way. The other part of me is thinking which I would hate to believe is I was turned away because of my race (I'm an African American woman) either way, I am disturbed by this interaction so much that I had to write this. Maybe I should go back, take off my company branded gear and change my skin color.. oops can't do that. I am disgusted by the way I was NOT welcomed at Kindred Spirits Healing Arts.. Can you heal this???
