What is worth choosing about Lenity Vet Specialists + Emergency Care is their dual commitment to high-level medical care and deep human empathy. As highlighted in a glowing review from the Solis Family, the staff's "intentional listening, calm voices, and gentle presence" during a terrifying time demonstrated that they treat "paw babies" and "pawents" with equal consideration. This customer's story of their dog Gizmo's successful surgical recovery and later treatment for hot spots underscores the clinic's consistency and willingness to go above and beyond, even advocating with pet insurance providers. This level of personalized, compassionate care is a rare find and speaks volumes about the clinic’s values. However, it is important for potential clients to also consider all feedback. A second review from a family whose dog was lost while in their care reveals a significant lapse in protocol and communication. The review highlights that the dog was lost due to a failure to follow the "double harness protocol" and that the family was not notified for over an hour. This situation, and the subsequent lack of a personal apology from the owner, points to serious concerns about communication and accountability in a high-stress environment. While Lenity offers exceptional medical expertise and a range of life-saving services, these two vastly different experiences showcase the importance of professional excellence not only in medical procedures but also in operational safety and client communication. Choosing Lenity means choosing a facility with advanced capabilities and a stated commitment to compassion, but also one where, as with any high-volume emergency practice, it is crucial for pet owners to be actively engaged and vigilant.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Where Paw Babies Are Treated Like Family and Pawents Are Truly Understood – A Grateful Tribute to Lenity Vet Specialists + Emergency Care⸻From the moment we first stepped into Lenity Vet Specialists + Emergency Care at 257 N Amphlett Blvd, San Mateo, we knew we had found something rare—a place where empathy, compassion, and professional excellence come together to create a sanctuary for both paw babies and pawents alike. Our journey with Lenity began in 2021, during one of the scariest moments we’ve experienced as pet parents. Our beloved Gizmo, a golden retriever who is more than just a dog to us—he’s family—had developed a mass on his cranium that required immediate attention and surgical removal. Understandably, we were terrified. But the moment we walked in, we were greeted by front desk staff who didn’t just check us in—they saw us. Their intentional listening, calm voices, and gentle presence made a world of difference to our trembling hearts. They treated us like family and Gizmo like the precious soul he is.The veterinary technicians were just as extraordinary—careful, clear in communication, and so wonderfully attuned to Gizmo’s comfort. Every touch was gentle, every word reassuring. And the veterinarian—whose name I wish we had written down—was the very definition of compassion combined with skill. She walked us through the diagnosis, offered a solutions-based care plan, and even personally advocated in communication with our pet insurance provider to help reduce the financial burden on our family. It wasn’t just medical care—it was healing, in every sense of the word.Fast forward to 2025, and we returned with Gizmo again—this time for the treatment of three painful hot spots. Once again, Lenity rose to the occasion with grace and urgency. Their flexibility in scheduling, their awareness of Gizmo’s unique needs, and their ever-present willingness to accommodate us as a family showed us that this wasn’t just a one-time act of kindness. It’s their standard of care. What sets Lenity Vet Specialists + Emergency Care apart is not just their medical expertise—it’s the humanity behind it. They listen. They care. They act with purpose. And they do it all while making sure that pawents are never left out of the loop and paw babies are never left in distress. We cannot thank the front desk staff, the vet techs, and the vets enough for being everything we needed in our moments of fear, hope, and healing. Because of you, Gizmo is thriving—and so are we.From our whole family: Thank you for making Lenity not just a clinic, but a place of trust, tenderness, and true care. With deep appreciation,The Solis Family & Gizmo 🐾
August 02 · Helen SolisWe strongly advise against bringing your pet to Lenity Vet Specialists and Emergency Care in San Mateo. We are sharing our experience on this platform to inform you as you consider what is best for the care and safety of your pet. On the day we were meant to pick up our pup from their care, we received a call at 8:05 am that they had LOST our dog outside in the 6 am hour. They waited OVER AN HOUR before contacting us. We rushed to the area to start searching for her, as they had only one vet tech on duty looking for her. Within 15 minutes of calling us, they had completely lost sight of her whereabouts. My husband and I frantically wrote on social media apps, and four hours after she first got loose, she was found with postings and the help of animal control. She had traveled on El Camino and was miles away from the vet, having crossed many busy intersections. Once she was safely in our car, we needed to bring her back to Lenity to remove her catheter. At this point, we requested to speak with the owner to review the missteps that led to our dog getting lost and the delay in communication. We were told that the owner was in surgery and would call us once she was free.Four hours later, we still had not heard from the owner. We called Lenity to check on our ability to speak with her and were told that she would not be calling, but rather she had passed along the call to her office manager. In speaking with the office manager, we want readers of this review to be clear that at no time was an apology made for losing our dog until we brought this to his attention. On the phone, he admitted that the vet tech did not follow their double harness protocol when they took our dog outside, which is why she wriggled out of the single harness so easily. He also admitted that the staff had not followed the communication protocol by delaying notification to us. Even though they made these errors, they made no effort to make adequate amends. And no, it’s been almost two weeks and the owner of the company, a vet herself, has yet to communicate with us.Our belief in the infinite potential of confident, curious children ignites their belief in themselves.
August 26 · NoSmallChildrenWe brought our male cat, Finn, to Lenity when he was on the verge of a urinary blockage—a potentially fatal condition. Having previously lost a cat to the same illness, the experience was incredibly distressing. Thankfully, this time we caught the issue early and were able to save Finn’s life. While it took around 11 hours over the course of two visits to fully address his condition, we recognize that emergency clinics operate on a triage basis, prioritizing the most critical cases. That said, if your pet isn’t in a life-threatening situation or in need of 24/7 care, you may be better off waiting to see your primary veterinarian. The cost was significant and quickly exceeded our pet insurance’s annual coverage, but we acknowledge that without immediate treatment, we might have faced another heartbreaking loss. If you're a pet owner, I can’t emphasize enough the importance of pet insurance—it made a huge difference for us. (We use ASPCA and highly recommend having coverage in place!)
February 28 · Rose KLenity Vet Specialists were above our expectations when we took our German Shepherd to them. We did not think we would ever need this specialty care and emergency surgery! Dr. Carlson is very knowledgeable, compassionate, and answered all our questions. Duke had Gallbladder mucoceles and required immediate surgery. The medical side of care was highly professional but added to that was the compassion of the whole staff! From the front desk to the assistant vet techs! Duke bonded right away with the very caring assistant vet tech Stephanie-- what a reassuring feeling that was for us. Stephanie was one of Duke's "people"....she genuinely cared! We have already recommend Lenity to our friends because when you are in that situation of immediate care--decisions need to be made! I am so thankful I went to Lenity Vet Specialist + Emergency Care. Duke is only at the beginning of his recovery , yet we have confidence that he will be back to his sassy self soon! Thanks Lenity!
August 24 · Te GroseyFriendly staff and drs who work with you to get your pet care. We went to two vets for our dog who had an abscess on his neck and swelling. The team here stood out as friendly, caring and capable of understanding owner challenges when accidents and emergencies arise out of the blue. They never made us feel guilty or bad for asking about/seeking alternatives to help lesson the overall expense while also being honest and realistic with the pros and cons: top notch staff and really good people! Thank you to this team for helping our guy get better! While we don't hope to be back anytime soon, we know where we will go!
