7/12/24 This place is shady and wastes our time. Were negligent and delayed proper care of our dog. The doctor today met with us and basically said they didn’t cover this levee of care (yet accepted him into their care and charged us for 24 hours); why not tell us earlier and send us somewhere else? Horrible and unfair to our dog. The doctor basically told us to take him somewhere else and then wanted us to sign AMA paperwork when we discharged! Red flags all over and lacking integrity.7/11/24 Dog brought in with symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea with lethargy. My husband was told dog would need to be admitted and hospitalized overnight before any labs or thorough medical work up was completed. Seems like a money grab. Labs were done, then my husband was told based of elevated liver enzymes toxicity or poisoning was suspected and that dog was dehydrated. The reiterated they would need to keep him to monitor him overnight, so my husband signed the dog off to their care. After 6 hours I was told to call poison control (after I showed up at the front desk to follow-up)—this is very delayed care from an emergency medicine standpoint when it comes to poisoning. They gave the dog fluids and an antiemetic the whole time but nothing to address poisoning or reverse liver damage due to poisoning, etc. No gastric lavage or activated charcoal given. They said they couldn’t treat until they heard from poison control…no autonomy to make a differential diagnosis and treat?!? And no communication from the onset that we needed to call poison control to advise. It’s very confusing and an unacceptable standard of care. When I spoke with vet he mentioned he had also been busy seeing other appointments too—but poison is top of emergency triage priority usually, so shouldn’t be put off for hours—just wow. Substandard quality care when it comes to toxin exposure/poisoning. Given the information and that poisoning was suspected from the outset based off the history and labs—more should have been done. The doctor tried to make an excuse that he ate something days ago—mushroom toxicity is pretty rapid onset and dog only showed adverse symptoms this morning per the history report given. Either way, there needs to be more done early on—in emergency medicine you can’t wait for all 100 percent of all the facts (no one has a camera on the scene) and need to act fast to treat in order to prevent death, disfigurement or disability. This may be a good place for a routine office visit but not for a veterinary emergency in our experience today. Too much time wasted. All staff interactions were professional and polite. Just to point out positive. And we have had two positive experiences at this office with another vet for issues with our other dog. Just for a more balanced review. However, for suspected poisoning I’d take your dog somewhere else. - Maria
