We found our perfectly healthy baby kitty Ollie deceased under the bed in March and rushed him here. The vets confirmed he was deceased and reassured us that he likely had a cardiac event and that our other cats were in no danger. The night shift crew were incredibly kind and patient. They let us sit in a secluded, comfortable room and hold him for a while with absolutely no rush to leave. A weird detail but a nice touch, they were able to provide a body bag to put him in, something we never got from our old vet when we put our old cat down. We would 100% use this as our regular vet if we lived in Shrewsbury, but we have a longer drive there. I wish we had one of these locations in Hanover.Ollie was only six when he passed away, and there was nothing wrong with him that we could see. His sudden death was hard but Mason Dixon was there for us during our time of need. - Synth

  • Sudden Illness Management: Addressing acute onset conditions such as sudden collapse, severe vomiting/diarrhea, difficulty breathing, or neurological symptoms.

This includes thoughtful details like providing a body bag, as noted by a grateful client.

  • Surgical Referrals/Stabilization: While typically not performing elective surgeries, they can stabilize pets needing emergency surgical intervention and prepare them for transfer to a specialized surgical facility if necessary.

Mason Dixon Animal Emergency Hospital shines with several critical features and highlights that are paramount for an emergency care facility, as consistently reflected in patient experiences.

  • Immediate Response and Rapid Treatment: In emergency situations, speed is of the essence. Customers consistently note that they were "taken back immediately for treatment" upon arrival, highlighting the hospital's efficient triage and readiness to act, particularly crucial for cases like pet poisoning.

  • Unwavering Compassion and Empathy: This is a recurring and strong theme in client feedback. Whether it's supporting grieving owners after the sudden passing of a pet ("incredibly kind and patient," "let us sit in a secluded, comfortable room and hold him") or treating a pet who ingested poison ("so kind and calm"), the staff's compassionate approach provides immense comfort during highly stressful times.

  • Clear Communication and Updates: The staff ensures pet owners are "kept updated on everything they were doing," which is vital for reducing anxiety and building trust when a pet's life is on the line.

  • Focus on Patient Care First: A significant highlight is their policy of "did not demand payment first," unlike some other emergency clinics. This allows immediate focus on the pet's well-being without delaying critical treatment due to financial processes, a practice deeply appreciated by owners in distress.

  • Thoughtful and Respectful End-of-Life Support: The profound kindness extended during euthanasia, including practical details like providing a body bag and allowing ample time for grieving in a private space, demonstrates an exceptional level of care for both the pet and the human family.

  • Reasonable Cost for Emergency Care: Despite providing immediate, high-quality emergency intervention, one client noted that the "bill was not astronomical." This indicates a commitment to fair pricing, which is a significant relief for owners facing unexpected veterinary expenses.
