- UPDATE BELOWWe were robbed of the chance to say goodbye to a beloved family member. He died in a cage, surrounded by unfamiliar sounds and smells, likely believing his humans had abandoned him to face it alone. To top it off, they weren’t even getting his name right. And it gets worse.I rushed my critically ill cat to Pet Station. The vet said he had a 50/50 chance. The next morning, I called for an update. A staff member answered, said she hadn’t treated him, and started to page the vet. I told her not to—I understood she was likely busy, and I was coming in shortly anyway. When I arrived, I again told them to take their time, but yes, I had questions for the vet.20 minutes later, she walked in, arms crossed, hip cocked, and said she had nothing new to add from the previous day. When I asked her to clarify, she replied she was “a very busy woman,” and that she had tried to call but I didn’t answer (I was in the shower getting ready to come up). She said it was “feeding time” for my cat—as though that excused brushing me off.I had spent the weekend at work watching my cat decline on a security camera. I had questions. I was desperate. She couldn’t be bothered. And because she was the one caring for him, I didn’t push. I didn’t want to upset her more. I left—without asking if I should bring my daughter up to say goodbye. The long story, shorter:The vet later apologized for “hurting my feelings.”She admitted he had not received treatment that morning—no tube feeding, no IV fluids—because the staff decided he wasn’t worth it and figured the vet would put him down.He died the next morning.I paid the nearly $1,000 bill in full within the hour, knowing I couldn't receive his remains otherwise.I was told they’d call Friday when he came back. They didn’t.I called them Monday to find out he’d been sitting there, unclaimed, all weekend. When I showed up, the receptionist knew who I was and why I was there. She made me wait while she answered the phone, then handed me my boy without a single word of condolence.I had to go back in and insist they get his name right and show him some respect.I asked for a follow-up call from the vet. She tried once. I missed it. That was a month ago. So now, this review will have to do.We’ll never have closure. And they made sure of it.Insensitive, unkind, and cold—their actions haunt me.He died scared, alone, and misnamed.---UPDATE:He was one of two littermates we adopted. Six months later, we lost his sister too. This time, our current vet came to our home so she could pass in our arms. My 12-year-old daughter sobbed as she held her, pleading:“Please tell your brother we’re so sorry he died scared and alone. Tell him we miss him so much.”Only after that second loss did we learn the vet we adopted from had no problem sending FIV+ kittens home with a family that included a 6-year-old child.Pet Station—you treated me like a neglectful pet owner, like someone undeserving of basic decency. If we hadn't gone through the second loss, I might have believed you.In reality, they had a deadly virus. It wasn’t my fault. But I was made to feel like it was.I’ve already lost both of my parents. You added a mountain of trauma on top of grief I was already carrying.I hope someone from your clinic reads this. And I hope my story keeps this from happening to another family. - Friendly staff. My dog was well taken care of. They also called the next day to see how my dog was doing after discharge. Highly recommended! March 13 · Judy Clark
