When choosing a veterinary practice, it is crucial to consider both the professional services and the personal experiences of other clients. Shannon Veterinary Services has received varied feedback that provides a well-rounded picture of the practice. One long-standing client, who has been with the practice for 15 years, expressed immense gratitude for the "caring, friendly, and trust-inspiring" staff. They particularly praised the veterinarians for being "thorough" and for building "good relationships" over the years, highlighting a consistent level of quality care. This positive review speaks to a practice that has successfully nurtured long-term client loyalty and provided excellent service for multiple pets.
However, another review detailed a heartbreaking experience involving a cat with megacolon and severe dental disease. The client expressed deep regret and sadness over what they perceived as outdated methods and advice that led to life-altering consequences for their pet. They highlighted a procedure that they later learned was widely warned against and advice that denied their pet preventative dental care, which ultimately led to severe periodontal disease. This perspective, while representing a single experience, raises important questions for potential clients to consider. It underscores the importance of seeking multiple opinions, especially for complex or chronic conditions, and researching modern veterinary practices and standards. While the one client had a negative experience, others have clearly had positive outcomes, as evidenced by the long-standing relationships they've maintained with the clinic. This balance of feedback suggests that while the practice has many strengths, it is important for owners to feel empowered to ask questions and discuss all available options for their pet's health. For local residents, this information provides a crucial, balanced view, allowing them to make a well-informed decision based on their pet's specific needs and their own comfort level.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We have been clients at Shannon Vet for approximately 15 years. Today, we saw Dr. Cooper. She addressed all our concerns about our three dogs at their annual exam. We felt she was very thorough. All the doctors here are excellent and we have enjoyed good relationships with them over the years. The staff is so very caring, friendly, and trust-inspiring. We are grateful for all they do for our fur babies and us! ❤️
July 29 · Susan KitchenIf your cat has megacolon or is in need of dental care, I would strongly advise against bringing them to this clinic. My cat has endured life-altering consequences in just a single year under their care, and it breaks my heart to know that much of it could have been avoided. My 10-year-old cat was born with megacolon. After moving from Houston, I trusted this clinic to continue his treatment a mistake I deeply regret. Dr. Davis chose to use manual extraction with forceps, a method I later discovered is widely warned against because it can cause permanent nerve damage and dramatically worsen megacolon. Sadly, this is exactly what happened. My cat, who once managed his condition with careful treatment, now cannot pass stool on his own and must rely on enemas for life. I was even told that they had euthanized many cats with the same condition something that now makes sense, given their harsh and outdated handling methods. As if that weren’t enough, I was also reassured that my cat did not need a dental cleaning, being told it was “normal” for senior cats to lose teeth, and that cleanings were too risky because “pets can die under anesthesia.” I trusted this advice, and as a result, my cat developed severe periodontal disease and had to remove more than half his teeth. When I sought a second opinion from a pet oral surgeon in Buford that I learned the truth: with modern veterinary medicine, dental cleanings are safe for senior pets in healthy weight ranges which my cat was qualified for. The surgeon was shocked my cat had been denied this preventative care and confirmed that, had the cleaning been done earlier, his teeth would have been saved. Now, after so much needless suffering, my cat is scheduled for life-saving megacolon surgery at Cornell University next Wednesday. He deserves a chance at comfort and health something this clinic failed to provide. Please, if you love your pet, spare yourself the pain, cost, and heartbreak I’ve experienced. Do not bring your animals here. For compassionate and competent care, go to Galilee Veterinary Hospital instead.
August 19 · Dana McleroyThe folks at this vet are kind, caring and compassionate, friendly and helpful. The vets are experienced and knowledgeable. We can usually get appointments not too far in the future. Dr Shannon is patient and thorough, doesn’t appear hurried and spends time to pay attention to, check and treat your pet. They are much less expensive than any Atlanta vet and worth the trip. Since we are in Atlanta, they have advised and have even prescribed over the phone for their existing pet patients!I love this place and trust them completely with our cats and dog! ❤️❤️❤️
