Choosing a veterinarian is a critical decision for any pet owner in California. Small Animal Hospital presents a compelling case for its services, particularly for those seeking a broad range of care in a single location. The positive experience described by a new client, who was able to get a last-minute appointment and felt heard and respected by Dr. Macasias, speaks volumes about the clinic's capacity for compassionate and effective care. This personalized approach, where a vet takes the time to listen and not push "unnecessary treatments," is a major point of trust and is what convinces pet owners to make a long-term switch.
However, it is also important for potential clients to consider the full range of experiences. Some reviews highlight significant challenges, such as long wait times despite having an appointment, which can be frustrating for those with busy schedules. The issue of services being performed without consent or prior cost confirmation is also a serious concern that points to a potential gap in client communication. Furthermore, the feedback regarding outdated methods for handling reactive dogs is a crucial piece of information for owners of pets with specific behavioral needs. For a pet owner in California, what is ultimately worth choosing is a balance of professional medical services and a client-centered, compassionate, and transparent practice. Small Animal Hospital’s offerings and positive aspects should be weighed against the challenges mentioned by some clients to make the best possible decision for your pet’s health and your own peace of mind.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Brought my corgi, Hamilton, here for the first time today thanks to them having a last minute appointment as he wasn’t feeling well and his normal vet didn’t have any openings until 6/18.Check in was so easy and staff was Incredibly nice. There was maybe a 3-5 min wait for a room and someone quickly came to check us in there to see what was going on.The vet, Dr. Macasias, was amazing. Never made me feel rushed and listened to all of my concerns. I never felt like I was being sold unnecessary treatments. Due to this treatment, I will be switching vets. Thank you!
June 06 · El AI’ve consistently experienced long waits at this clinic when bringing my cats or dog, with significant time passing between my scheduled appointment and being seen by a vet tech or doctor. At my most recent visit, after being placed in a patient room with my cat Minnie, we waited over half an hour before anyone came in or acknowledged us. The actual time spent with the tech and doctor was maybe 15 minutes, yet the overall visit took much longer than necessary.Without asking my consent or confirming the cost, the staff also performed an ear cleaning, which I later learned was $60—something I would not have agreed to. As a professional with a busy schedule, I cannot afford to spend an entire day at the vet for a brief appointment. Customer service and respect for clients’ time are essential, and unfortunately, that has been lacking here.I also strongly caution anyone with a reactive dog against bringing them here. The staff is not trained to handle behavioral needs and their outdated methods can actually make a dog’s behavior worse- which was our experience. This clinic relies on old-fashioned practices that fall short of modern, compassionate standards of veterinary care.Because of these repeated issues, I will not be returning and cannot recommend this clinic to other pet owners
August 20 · Jack CaravesThe staff there is great. Dr. Lynn was wonderful with my little old lady! Glad we were able to find my girls their new vet in a warm and welcoming environment.
August 13 · Princess Braxton-FordAfter 6 years of perfect health my female cat seems to be in heat and its annoying.I will not be taking my cat back. After spending $1500 on 2 visits, my cat was worse than when I took her in. I did not feel welcomed, lack of communication, from the beginning. Then after trying to explain to Dr. About my cat he did not seem to listen. We started from ground level with a general check up. He gave her a shot for her hair loss. OK all good. Next visit because what he did, did not fix her condition, next visit ,he repeated shot for cat still chewing hair. again I tell him she acts like she is in heat ( she was fixed 6 years ago.) Told him I googled it and it sounds like they may have left some of the female tissue in her when they did her spay. He said don't read Google. So we started from dcratch. He said underlying problem so he did blood work , Xray, he saw her intestines were packed with food, he called to tell me #1 the WRONG DIAGNOSIS OR WAS IT? WRONG ANIMAL. He ask me if I had finished giving her the meds he sent me home with from first vist. I said you did not give me any meds to give her to take home. We kind of went back and forth until he said ohhh wrong pet. So now did or does my cat have a uti? Then he said ohh she is constipated I will give her an enima, he did not discuss the cost or anything. By this time I was confused getting frustrated. I go pick up my cat later and the doctor was goneI had to ask questions the bill went from $700 to ,$ 1200. With letting me know the new cost. After whatever he did My cat was NOT THE SAME. IT TOOK HER 3 MONTHS TO START ACTING almost like her self I think he overdosed her on whatever he used to put her asleep. And now she is still doing the same thing. I called and asked about her blood panel they said her kidneys and everything looked good. I asked about her hormone that said they did not do a hormone test. Im done with Dr. Davis
June 19 · sloopyub4Took my cat to get blood work done. The nurse came in trying to charge me so many other extra things, and it makes you feel super pressured. I told them that when I called, I wasn't going to spay the cat at this clinic, and they misunderstood. I didn't even end up getting the blood work done because they said I should get it done closer to the appointment day for spay. Okay, thanks? But why let me know now and make me waste time and money? The doctor explained to me a lot more but wasn't super helpful in helping me give my cat a better balanced diet considering she is underweight.
