Oswego Veterinary Hospital offers a comprehensive range of veterinary services, designed to address the diverse health needs of pets throughout their lives. Their focus is on providing personalized and compassionate care. While specific details should always be confirmed directly with the clinic, general veterinary hospitals typically provide:
- Wellness and Preventive Care: This forms the foundation of good pet health and includes thorough annual physical examinations, tailored vaccination programs to protect against common diseases, effective parasite prevention and control (fleas, ticks, heartworm, intestinal parasites), and personalized nutritional counseling to maintain optimal health.
- Diagnostic Services: When a pet is unwell, accurate and timely diagnosis is crucial. The hospital is equipped to perform various in-house diagnostic tests, such as blood work (including complete blood counts and chemistry panels), urinalysis, and fecal examinations. They also utilize advanced imaging techniques like radiography (X-rays) to assess internal organs, bones, and identify various medical conditions.
- Dental Care: Oral health is a vital component of a pet's overall well-being. Services typically include professional dental cleanings (scaling and polishing under anesthesia), dental extractions when necessary, and guidance on at-home dental hygiene practices to prevent periodontal disease.
- Surgical Procedures: The hospital performs a range of routine and common soft tissue surgical procedures. This generally includes spaying, neutering, removal of masses or foreign bodies, and other necessary interventions. They prioritize patient safety, pain management, and attentive post-operative care for all surgical patients.
- Puppy and Kitten Care: Specialized programs are often available for young pets, focusing on their initial vaccinations, deworming, nutritional guidance, and essential advice for new pet owners on topics like socialization and basic training.
- Senior Pet Care: As pets age, their healthcare needs evolve. The hospital provides specialized geriatric care, focusing on early detection and management of age-related conditions such as arthritis, kidney disease, heart conditions, and cognitive dysfunction, aiming to enhance their comfort and quality of life in their golden years.
- Microchipping: For enhanced pet safety, microchipping services are offered, providing a permanent form of identification that significantly increases the chances of being reunited with a lost pet.

- Welcoming and Enthusiastic Staff: A strong highlight, as noted by a grateful client, is the staff's welcoming and delighted response to new clients, in contrast to experiences elsewhere. They are described as adoring the pets and creating an environment where pets "bound into the vet office and try to sneak into the back," which speaks volumes about the positive atmosphere they cultivate.
- Focus on Client Relationships: The testimonial from a long-term client who "will never switch again" after experiencing the care at Oswego Veterinary Hospital emphasizes their ability to build strong, trusting, and lasting relationships with pet owners, offering personalized attention to both the pet and the human.

- Responsive to Client Needs: The ability to accommodate a new puppy client "right away" when shots were due, despite the client's previous negative experience elsewhere, highlights a responsiveness to pet health needs and a commitment to new client integration.

Oswego Veterinary Hospital Reviews
Dr Ward performed a routine surgery (tooth removal) and my friends dog came out of the vet with a missing eye. They pushed too hard on the inside of her mouth and it punctured the back of the dogs eye.The story gets worse- we had to go to another vet to have her eye removed. Oswego Vet wouldn’t cover the cost. They made us pay out of pocket and then deal with their insurance (who was a pain in the a**). The customer service (or lack there of) here is incredible. They blew her eye out and basically told my friend: “deal with it” 🤯Continue to fast forward - it took about 6 months to get reimbursed from the insurance company. Did Oswego vet care? Absolutely not. Here’s why it took 6 months: the insurance company wouldn’t reimbuse until we found receipt for a $10 prescription and an $8 collar post eye removal surgery.Throughout this process- Oswego vet was notified about the difficulties with insurance and didn’t do anything. When my friend threatened to write a review- they called him a cyber bully. So I am here, writing on his behalf. Two years later- his dogs quality of life has deteriorated very fast. His dog is only 8 and can’t hear, has a missing eye and isn’t doing well.I have no idea how this place has above 4 stars. With a mistake of that degree- one would think they would have immediately at least cover the cost of the eye removal surgery and deal with their own insurance.
Aug 04, 2024 · Nick PI recently divorced, moved, and got a new puppy. My former vet of over 10 years informed me I would have to go on a waiting list as a new client and would unlikely to get in when shots were due. The woman was not very nice about it. I was appalled and very angry.Oswego Vet Hospital seemed delighted by my call, got me in right away, and adore Mimsey. I’ve had dogs all of my adult life- and I’m now retired - and never had a dog that would bound into the vet office and try to sneak into the back! They’ve taken such great care of both of us - I’ll never switch again. Thank you OVH!
May 26, 2024 · Karen D WagnerThey are wonderful! Very kind and empathetic, willing to answer all my questions, and never the tiniest bit judgemental- though I'm aware I a) usually talk too much and b) often worry too much. They are careful about being sure you intend on showing up- requiring a deposit for various services, but it always feels reasonable to me. I used to work in the Veterinary field and the fact is as a client, you may feel that the services are expensive (at any veterinary office), but the money goes to many human grade medical products and equipment as well as laboratory tests that are not subsidized or reduced in any way by insurance companies and cost much more than the same tests for humans, etc. etc.Oswego Vet practices excellent medicine and I feel very confident in their care of my 2 cats and dog and any other pets I have in the future!
Jul 02, 2025 · Margaret GotschThey did an amazing job on our first visit with our Bernese Mountain Dog.He is a very vocal dog, they knew exactly how to deal with him and did it well.My parents have been taking their 10-year-old BMD to them ever since moving back here over two years ago. The only regret I have is not going to them sooner.
Oct 20, 2024 · Jack DahlReview on Grooming Services:We have a 9.5 year old 6 lb Yorkie has been receiving vet and grooming care at Oswego Vet for a few years. The vet care has overall been very good, though we had a very upsetting situation occur this weekend with the groomer, Eve. Eve was the only groomer in that day and when we picked up our dog, we learned that Eve cut off over 1/4 inch of the top of his actual ear! I cannot even imagine how traumatic and painful this situation was for our dog.Eve's response to my husband seemed very lackadaisical and she simply stated, "I cut a little of his ear but he didn't cry and it didn't bleed." Of note, there was crusted blood at the top were the ear was cut off. Our dog is the most sweet natured dog on the planet and he never complains about anything so I am not surprised he did not make a sound when he was hurt.Since it was Labor Day weekend, I called first thing on Tuesday morning to explain this very upsetting situation to the receptionist and ask to talk to the manager. While the receptionist was very empathetic, she asked that I send an email expressing my concerns and that she would forward to the Manager. I have not yet received any response from the Manager and would hope that they would have taken my concerns seriously by at least acknowledging that they will look into this situation. The past 2 times we have taken our dog to this groomer, Eve has been alone in the groomer office and seems overwhelmed. I recognize my dog can be squirmy and anxious about grooming but he has been getting groomed for 9.5 years without injury. Managing 6 lbs in one hand should not be all that difficult and going slow and careful with the other hand with scissor would have avoided this horrible situation. I will never return to that groomer and I would recommend that anyone with a dog that is not a statue avoid this groomer especially when Eve is alone.
