Services Offered
- Echocardiography: As a cornerstone of their diagnostic capabilities, CVCA performs comprehensive echocardiograms (ultrasounds of the heart). This non-invasive procedure, performed by a board-certified cardiologist, provides crucial information on the location, type, and severity of heart disease, enabling precise diagnoses and treatment plans.
- Electrocardiography (ECG): They utilize both diagnostic multi-lead ECGs and ambulatory ECG (Holter) monitoring to evaluate heart rhythms, detect arrhythmias, and assess the effectiveness of anti-arrhythmic medications.
- Medical Management of Heart Disease: This includes the prescription and management of various medications to treat conditions such as congestive heart failure (CHF), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in cats, dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs, and other cardiac conditions, aiming to improve quality of life and extend longevity.
- Pre-Anesthesia Evaluation: For pets requiring other surgical procedures, CVCA offers pre-anesthesia cardiac evaluations to assess cardiac risk and provide recommendations to primary care veterinarians to ensure the safest possible anesthetic event.
- Pre-Breeding Certifications: For breeders, CVCA provides pre-breeding cardiac evaluations and certifications, helping to identify and manage inherited heart conditions.
- Interventional Cardiology Procedures: In some cases, they perform minimally-invasive, catheter-based procedures for certain congenital heart defects or other conditions, which can offer less recovery time than traditional surgery.
- Consultations and Follow-up Care: Comprehensive consultations with pet owners after diagnostics are a standard part of their service, where cardiologists thoroughly explain findings, discuss treatment options, and provide detailed home care reports. They also ensure ongoing communication with primary care veterinarians.
- Pharmacy Services: CVCA facilitates easy access to prescribed cardiac medications for pets, often offering options for home delivery to simplify ongoing treatment.
Features / Highlights
- Board-Certified Veterinary Cardiologists: The most significant highlight of CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets is their team of board-certified veterinary cardiologists. These specialists have undergone extensive additional training (typically 3-5+ years after veterinary school) and rigorous examinations to become experts in heart disease in animals. This level of specialization ensures the highest standard of care and expertise.
- State-of-the-Art Diagnostics: CVCA utilizes top-of-the-line equipment, including Philips pediatric echocardiography units, which are specifically designed for the higher heart rates of pets, ensuring accurate measurements and images for precise diagnosis.
- Collaborative Approach to Care: They emphasize a strong partnership with primary care veterinarians. This co-management model ensures that your pet receives comprehensive, integrated care, with the cardiologist focusing on advanced cardiac management while your primary vet handles general health needs. Studies even show that pets with congestive heart failure live 75% longer when co-managed by a board-certified cardiologist.
- Exceptional Patient and Client Experience: Reviews consistently highlight the professional, empathetic, and knowledgeable nature of all staff members. Pet owners appreciate the thorough explanations, the time taken to answer all questions, and the compassionate approach, especially during stressful times.
- Focus on Accurate Diagnosis and Optimal Treatment: Their expertise allows for early and accurate diagnosis, which is key to effective management of heart disease, often before pets even show outward symptoms. This proactive approach aims to improve both the quantity and quality of a pet's life.
- Availability for Urgent Cases: While appointments are standard, CVCA is often available for same-day urgent cases, providing a crucial resource for pets experiencing acute cardiac issues.

Wonderful place. Got my cat in very quickly for imaging and took amazing care of him. Doctor Rapoport gave us the results directly after the echocardiogram, and answered all of our questions thoroughly. He was professional, empathetic, and very knowledgeable. I am so happy Keiko has this group following him for his cardiac care for as long as he is here with us. Thank you to all the staff!

Jul 07, 2025 · Sandi WillisIf I could give more than 5 stars I would. Dr. Gregg Rapoport was so incredibly helpful and thorough. He answered all of our questions in a way that was easy to understand. Mar 12, 2025 · Kelly SchumacherMy cat Mollie was diagnosed with heart disease this last year in the fall, and CVCA has been a great place that’s helped me make sure she’s taken care of. Dr. Rapoport is one of the best doctors and I’m really glad he’s the one who’s been helping us make sure she’s getting the proper treatment. He does a great job relaying information with care and understanding especially when the news isn’t always great to hear. I’m very grateful for the help we've gotten from CVCA for my Mollie.
Jun 28, 2025 · Veronica JohnsonMy Cavalier’s visit went really well. They were very thorough in questions/screening before the appointment. The doctor did an excellent job of explaining the issue. I really appreciated that he had a diagram of the heart to actually show me what my girl was experiencing. The medication he prescribed was ordered the very same day from an online pharmacy that will deliver it to my home. It will also be less expensive than if I’d purchased it elsewhere.. This practice seems to be extremely organized, thorough as well as really nice to work with. I’m so grateful that they are so close!
