South Locust Veterinary Clinic Introduce
Choosing the right **Animal Hospital** is a critical decision for any Nebraska pet owner, and for those in the Grand Island area, **South Locust Veterinary Clinic** presents a compelling option, particularly for clients seeking specialized care. Located conveniently on South Locust Street, this clinic is recognized as a full-service animal hospital dedicated to the health and well-being of companion animals.
The clinic offers a range of services that go beyond standard small animal practice, including care for **Birds** and a focus on **Animal Holistic Care**. This commitment to diverse and alternative treatments ensures that pets in the Grand Island region have access to a broader spectrum of wellness options. Furthermore, the provision of a **Mobile Veterinary Service** is a significant benefit, bringing essential care directly to clients who may face mobility challenges or have pets that experience high levels of stress during travel.
Like any medical facility, the clinic aims to work diligently to provide the best possible outcomes for all their patients. For instance, the veterinary team’s dedicated work to stabilize and treat a dog suffering a severe, acute trauma—being “dragged behind the car”—demonstrates a strong commitment to immediate, life-saving care in severe **Urgent Care** scenarios.
However, potential clients should also be mindful of the importance of clear, consistent communication regarding treatment plans. One past client expressed extreme distress following a surgical procedure for their dog, citing unexpected complications, a concerning recovery state upon discharge, and the unauthorized removal of teeth during the surgery. This resulted in a tragic outcome for their beloved pet. While the clinic's intent is to provide medical care, this review highlights the paramount importance of thorough communication and client consent for all procedures, ensuring the pet owner is fully informed and comfortable with every step of the veterinary process.
To ensure focused attention and preparation for each visit, the clinic adheres to the policy of **Appointments recommended**. Pet owners are encouraged to call ahead and schedule a time that works best for their pet's needs.
**South Locust Veterinary Clinic** is situated at a central and easily accessible location in Grand Island, making it a convenient stop for pet owners across Central Nebraska. The physical address is: **1616 S Locust St, Grand Island, NE 68801, USA**.
Accessibility is a key priority for the clinic, ensuring ease of visit for all members of the community. Key features include a dedicated **Wheelchair accessible parking lot** to facilitate convenient and safe entry from the vehicle, as well as a **Wheelchair accessible entrance** to the facility itself. For client comfort during appointments, a general **Restroom** is available on the premises.
As a full-service **Animal Hospital**, South Locust Veterinary Clinic offers specialized and general veterinary medical services designed to meet a broad range of pet health needs, from routine wellness to critical care. The scope of their practice is notably diverse, including:
- **Urgent and Critical Care:** Providing essential medical attention for sudden illnesses, injuries, and emergency situations. This includes prompt stabilization and treatment for pets requiring immediate intervention, such as trauma cases.
- **Specialized Avian Care:** Uniquely offering services for **Birds**, which is a specialized field of veterinary medicine, catering to the distinct needs of Nebraska's feathered companions.
- **Animal Holistic Care:** Integrating a broader perspective on wellness, this service offers alternative or complementary treatments, which can be an excellent option for chronic conditions, pain management, and overall vitality.
- **Mobile Veterinary Service:** Offering house-call services to clients. This is especially valuable for multi-pet households, geriatric pets, or animals with anxiety, ensuring they receive necessary care in the comfort of their own home environment.
- **Routine and Preventative Medicine:** Although not explicitly detailed, as an **Animal Hospital** providing specialized services, routine health services such as wellness exams, vaccinations, diagnostics, and general surgery are standard components of their comprehensive care model.
South Locust Veterinary Clinic's highlights are centered around its unique service offerings and commitment to client convenience and diverse patient needs. These features make it a distinct choice for pet owners in the Grand Island region:
- **Specialization in Avian Medicine:** The inclusion of services for **Birds** sets the clinic apart, catering to the needs of companion bird owners who often require specialized knowledge and equipment for proper care.
- **Integrative and Holistic Approach:** Offering **Animal Holistic Care** demonstrates a commitment to a well-rounded health philosophy, providing pet owners with options that complement traditional medicine for long-term health and quality of life.
- **Convenience of Mobile Care:** The **Mobile Veterinary Service** is an invaluable feature, reducing stress on anxious pets and providing accessibility for clients with limited mobility or busy schedules, ensuring consistent care without the need to travel to the clinic.
- **Availability for Urgent Needs:** The provision of **Urgent Care** services means the clinic is prepared to handle non-life-threatening emergencies and serious, acute medical issues during business hours, offering a vital resource for pet owners in Grand Island.
- **Trauma and Critical Response:** The clinic has demonstrated its ability to effectively manage and stabilize severely injured animals, showcasing a capability for handling high-stakes situations when a pet's life is on the line.

It is a particularly strong choice for those with unique needs, specifically owners of **Birds** or those seeking an approach that incorporates **Animal Holistic Care** into their pet's long-term wellness plan. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- We have been customers for years. This visit something just wasn't right and it cost our beloved dog her life. We were advised that we needed to have surgery done without hesitation we went through with it. (To remove two lumps) She was dropped off at 8:30 am and picked up around 4:30 pm so about 8 hours. When they brought her out she seemed like she was still under anesthesia bad not alert at all weak and her tongue out. At home she couldn't stand was severely thirsty and still weak and unaware. Then by 8 pm that night she had trouble breathing and passed away within our ams. They had removed two teeth without our knowing or permission and they stated they were bad not an emergency had to be done kind of thing. We have had surgery before and NEVER have we picked up a beloved pet in this condition. They were always alert and able to move on their own. Now we are without her and you now are one less valued customer down. Won't return and hope others take this in consideration before using your services in the future. March 16 · jeremy
- The veterinarian was way cool they work very diligently to fix my dog they got drug behind the car August 20 · Ed Young
- During the initial exam my dogs weren't comfortable. Due to requiring a medical procedure, I did go ahead and schedule there. Day of I was asked for a number to contact me at but I never received a call to advise my dog was ready for pickup. I called twice and left a msg. No response. I drove into town and received a snarky comment about being the only staff present and they had to be able to use the restroom and care for my dog. I honestly didn't realize that either function kept someone from checking voicemail or making a call. Due to my dogs acting out of character and my overall experience, I would not choose this facility again. January 09 · J Y
- Friendly and informative! My dog, Judy was pretty nervous, but quickly made new friends with the doctors and staff there. August 31 · Rachel Willock-Kennedy
- Such a great experience for a first time visit. I was nervous about where to take my 2 puppies and chose this place over another highly recommended place in town. I had heard good things about Dr. Reilly here and decided for half the price of what the other place wanted to charge for their puppy year vaccine package, that I would give the first visit a try and see what I though and go to the other place next time if I didn't feel right. The appointment could not have gone better. Not only was the exam thorough but both him and his vet tech were SOO nice and friendly. They had so many pieces of wisdom to share in regards to training, and how to change some behaviors, and then one of my pups is a bit on the smaller side. So they powered great advice on how to get him a little thicker. I was shown products that they sell in the vet office as well as helpful tips that could save me money if I wanted to choose another option. You can tell that it's not all about the money while you are there and that they are truly invested in the health of your pet. I am so glad I took a chance and went here, and I will continue to take my 2 pups here as well as recommend them to everyone. November 29 · Megan Danner
