T-4-Paws specializes specifically in providing comprehensive and highly effective treatment for feline hyperthyroidism, primarily through radioactive iodine (I-131) therapy. This focused approach ensures the highest level of expertise and dedicated resources for this common feline endocrine condition. While they are a specialized referral center, their services encompass all necessary aspects of this treatment.
- Radioactive Iodine (I-131) Therapy: This is the cornerstone of their services. Radioactive iodine is administered as a single injection, which targets and destroys the overactive thyroid tissue without harming surrounding healthy tissue. It is recognized as the safest and most effective long-term treatment for feline hyperthyroidism, boasting a success rate of over 95%.
- Pre-Treatment Consultations: Thorough consultations are conducted to explain the entire treatment process in detail, ensuring pet owners understand what to expect, from admission to aftercare.
- Comprehensive Monitoring During Treatment: While cats are housed at the facility for a period post-treatment (due to radioactivity guidelines), they receive continuous monitoring and care from experienced staff. This includes managing their comfort, feeding, and overall well-being.
- Detailed Aftercare Protocols: Clear and precise instructions are provided regarding post-treatment care at home, including guidelines for handling and waste disposal to ensure safety and optimal recovery.
- Post-Treatment Follow-up Guidance: T-4-Paws outlines the necessary follow-up visits and blood work that need to be scheduled with the pet’s primary local veterinarian, ensuring a seamless transition back to their regular care.
- Full Communication and Updates: The staff is dedicated to keeping pet owners informed, providing regular updates on their cat's status while they are undergoing treatment at the facility.
- Collaboration with Referring Veterinarians: They work closely with the pet's primary care veterinarian, providing detailed stats and information to ensure continuity of care.
It's important to note that T-4-Paws is a referral center focused on hyperthyroidism treatment, not a general veterinary hospital. They do not typically offer routine wellness exams, vaccinations, or other general veterinary services. Their expertise is concentrated on providing the best possible outcome for cats with thyroid issues.
T-4-Paws has garnered an excellent reputation among North Carolina pet owners and referring veterinarians, largely due to several distinct features and highlights that set it apart as a specialized feline hyperthyroid treatment center.

T-4-Paws Reviews
Had to carry one of my cats here for his thyroid treatment. They were very thorough in describing the entire process and telling us the aftercare protocol after I got my cat back home. All of the staff were pleasant and they were very good about calling and keeping me updated. A week or so after all was done I got a nice letter with them giving all the stats on my cat while they had him and outlining the follow-up visits I needed to schedule with my local vet. Overall the process was great and if you have a cat with thyroid problems have your vet refer them here.
Jan 07, 2019 · Gerald Travis PhillipsThe staff is so nice and helpful. Facility is clean. It is easy to find and get in and out. The doctor explains everything! No sugar coating the complete truth about treatment and expected outcomes. This is my cats second trip here. Hope we don't need to come back but, would definitely return if we needed to.
Jul 01, 2017 · michael aumillerThe regular vet we were seeing said there was no one anywhere in the area that did the radioactive iodine shot for cats, but I did my own research and found Lakecross. They took great care of my kitty during her radioiodine treatment. Dr. Hemstreet and everyone kept us updated and cared about all our concerns. Michele was super nice and answered tons of questions for us in the weeks leading up to our appointment. My kitty had never been away from home and didn't eat or use the litter box until the last day. After checkups at the regular vet she was seeing, she would be upset and restless for a while after we got home, but after staying here she was fine and content afterward and had no problems. It has been nine months now and my kitty's thyroid is normal and she has gained weight. I am so thankful to have found Lakecross and that they do this miracle treatment for cats!
