The Moriches Hospital For Animals is distinguished by several key features and highlights that have shaped its reputation among New York pet owners, particularly emphasizing the experiences shared by clients.
- Long-Standing Family Trust: Many families, like the one highlighted in the review, have "exclusively taken our dog and three cats" to this hospital for years, demonstrating a deep, long-term trust in the overall care provided by the institution.
- Experienced and Compassionate Staff (Specific Doctors): Dr. Hoffman is consistently praised as "great," "attentive and personable," and a veterinarian who treats animals with genuine care. Dr. Lynch also receives high recommendations, particularly for specialized surgeries like "cruciate ligament repair," with clients being "so happy" with the results and the care provided to anxious dogs. The positive feedback also extends to "the assistants, and the front desk," highlighting a generally friendly and caring team.
- Effective Surgical Outcomes: For complex procedures like cruciate ligament repair, the hospital, specifically with Dr. Lynch, has demonstrated excellent results, with pets recovering well and owners expressing high satisfaction, even for anxious animals.
- Commitment to Patient Comfort (for routine visits): The presence of a "spacious" patient room contributes to a more calming environment for pets, even allowing an anxious German Shepherd to take a treat, which was unusual for her. This suggests an attention to creating a less stressful experience for animals.
- Availability of Advanced Treatments: The offering of specialized services like stem cell therapy (Acti-Stem Therapy) demonstrates their commitment to providing advanced, modern treatment options for various conditions, enhancing the overall quality of care available to pets.
- Support During Difficult Times (with caveats): The hospital does offer end-of-life care, and while one specific experience with a particular veterinarian was less than ideal in terms of communication and process, the general intention is to "ease the passing of your companion" with "respectfully" offered services. This shows an attempt to provide support, though experiences can vary with individual practitioners.

The Moriches Hospital For Animals Reviews
My family has exclusively taken our dog and three cats to the Moriches Hospital For Animals over the years. HOWEVER, after our most recent visit with Dr. Mackonochie, we will never return.I hope anyone considering this hospital for their pet’s euthanasia will read this review first.Unfortunately, my elderly cat Sundrop had become very sick very quickly in the past week. We took her to Dr. Hoffman on Monday, March 10th, and the bloodwork showed that Sundrop’s kidneys were in late failure, guessing she had 1-2 weeks at most left to live. Our family made the very difficult decision to put her to rest before her disease progressed and caused a painful, drawn out death. We scheduled it as soon as possible, two days later. Our sweet kitty Sundrop’s euthanasia took place Wednesday, March 12th at 9:40am under Dr. Mackonochie. Our usual vet, Dr. Hoffman (who is great), was not in at the time our appointment was scheduled. After years of receiving great care from The Moriches Hospital For Animals, we trusted in the new vet. We also have prior experience with euthanasia at this hospital. In 2020, we brought our sick dog Princess (an almost 13 year old cockapoo) in to be put to rest, and we had a peaceful goodbye. She was taken out of the room, given a mild sedative, was brought back in a calm and sleepy state, and then given the final injection at our signal. We took her home to be buried in the blanket we brought her in. It was the best way it could have gone. Our experience with Dr. Mackonochie was nothing like this.If I could do my cat’s euthanasia over again, I would insist for Dr. Hoffman. After Dr. Mackonochie took Sundrop away, I could hear her crying out from the other room (this was even over the pop music their office plays). Dr. Mackonochie and the assistant then brought Sundrop back into our room, and she was struggling to escape against the assistant’s grasp. She was held down on the table. Completely the opposite of our past experience.I asked Dr. Mackonochie if Sundrop had received enough sedative, and I was told that yes she did, and that it was probably her kidneys bothering her.Our Sundrop had barely moved all week, and for her to be suddenly springing up and fighting against the assistant, did not add up. I did not appreciate the lack of communication and compassion I sensed from his response.Although I felt something did not seem right, we continued on with the euthanasia, because I did not want my poor girl to be in distress any longer. FYI - if you choose to take your pet home for a personal burial, we received our Sundrop in a knotted garbage bag, in a casket-shaped taped box. We were not asked our preference. If you want to receive your pet back in something a little more respectful than a garbage bag, be sure to make a specific request before they take your pet away to be cleaned up.In all, our family did not have a good experience with Dr. Mackonochie. I felt there was a lack of communication and respect, and I felt the whole process was rushed.Despite this, we are still very grateful for the care received from Dr. Hoffman, Dr. Lynch, the assistants, and the front desk.I hope my Sundrop’s story can help others to make better informed decisions and to choose the right vet to assist in making their pet’s final moments as peaceful as possible.
Mar 18, 2025 · Audrey BarryMy 10 year old pup, Dallas, recently had a cruciate ligament repair for his right back leg. I am so happy I entrusted the MHFA staff and Dr. Lynch with this surgery. They knew Dallas was an anxious dog and treated him with the care he needed. He came out of surgery looking great. Four days later and he is looking amazing and I'm just so happy with the experience I had. Highly recommend them for this type of surgery.
Mar 25, 2025 · Shannon SkinnerDr. Hoffman was patient and caring during time spent with Trapper. After a detailed exam she explained the blood tests needed. While waiting for results in the waiting room she joined me with a portion of the results. She explained them in detail. She inspired confidence. Thank you!
Apr 22, 2025 · Donna CookeWhat an outstanding and caring group of professionals at Moriches Hospital for Animals. We have been bringing our pets here for care for more than 15 years. Both we and our furry family members are always treated with great respect and care. We can’t say enough good things about Dr Hoffman, Dr Lynch and the whole support staff.
Jun 04, 2025 · James WellerLOVE this office and love is an understatement because of how amazing they were! All the staff were absolutely awesome with our dog Paulie! Dr. Mackonochie was very thorough, kind, and explained everything to us when helping with his allergies. He checked him up and down and went through everything with us and answered all our questions happily and spent time with us. We are so glad we switched to Moriches Hospital for Animals. Very grateful for the recommendation to come here and will most definitely be taking our other rescue dog and rescue cats here! Thank you!
